I'm not a fan either, and I agree the name doesn't fit. I'll call it Bob from now on.

The sculpting is a bit weak, but the pose is nice. It looks a hell of a lot better in the unpainted pics. Against my better judgement I like it, but it's about £5 over priced.

Yeah Borges was pretty damn sweet. I like how the Warhammer Forge guys really seem to be well-read. Adds an interesting twist to the fluff if you get the references.

I'm just not a big fan of the face. Looks like a chaos beaver-stag. I just don't see a need for it. But then again i don't play bretonnia.

I don't get how people relate the Preyton to Wood Elves or Bretonnia. It is a twisted, evil being, hating itself as much as everything else - completely against all that is beautiful and natural! Bretonnian knights will kill it whereever possible, and Wood Elves would not allow it to live in their woods. The only connection is the woods this beast lives in.

You are of course free to add it to your collection as you like. Background can be changed or ignored as you like. But in a "true" sense the Preyton is much better suited for Beastmen, WoC, Skaven and perhaps Dark Elves.

Yeah Beastmen are the obvious thematic army for the Preyton. Can't remember which armies are supposed to get along with it according to the rules. Sadly I don't bring my Monstrous Arcanum to work

It does look like a wood elf thing though. Background or not.

Well that said, Wood Elves aren't exactly the "traa laa laa, we are forest fairy people!" that they used to be. With the newest edition they are much more the vengeful merciless arm of the forest of Athel Loren, and much much darker.

Well, i love it. Nice sculpt and decent pricing.

Im really tired of all the negativism in this community, and the "gaming" community in general. Nowadays the age of gamers in general is 20+ and the whine just keeps getting worse. Maybe people should take a good hard look at their expectations instead? Not-so-long ago fw didnt even have a fantasy department.

True enough, it's a debased and mutated Wood Elfy / forest spirit type creature. Probably wouldn't let some dude with pointy ears ride him, though.

And overall, Warhammer Forge has been excellent in terms of what they've been bringing to the table -- and for a very fair price relative to GW proper. Their books have been gorgeous, possibly even moreso than the Imperial Armor books. The faux leather style and thick matte paper just works for me in a way that glossy white Imperial Armor pages don't. And, of course, the artwork inside the books has been very original and interesting as well. Definitely goes a long way towards getting you excited for whatever comes next.

Only because WF does exist does not mean we have to love everything they do. You can like stuff, others don't. It's called "having an opinion".

I've been looking forward to this since I saw it in Monstrous Arcanum. The paint scheme isn't much to write home about but I love the model, and it's pretty reasonably priced too. I'll definitely be getting one. Painted in a similar scheme to the pictures in MA it could looks really good.

It would be nice if it were a little bigger, but some of the monsters are ludicrously large these days and this thing packs a mean punch for its size. It's small, but it might be easier to hide on a battlefield to frustrate TLOS, for those who care about such things.

I do wish they'd called it a Peryton, though. It just looks like a typo to me at the moment.

I like it - looks suitably creepy.

The paint job they have given it however is abysmal.

I think Thrillhouse was just commenting that if you don't like it, you don't like it, leave your comment at that. No need to talk about it like it's the end of the world as some of these people have. You can be opposed to it all that you want, but when you slander the artist/painter/company just because you don't like something, that IS wrong, and completely not needed by anyone.

That being said, when I first saw this guy at the forgeworld open day, I wasn't particularly impressed, but he's grown on me over the last month, and I've actually been excited to get him. For those who know his rules, his 'stepped on' pose is reminiscent of his hatred of all things (himself included!). He should really be on a base of completely mutilated bodies, and he has a rule where he would do that sort of thing. He is a bit small, but I think the price is still ok.

And if I"m not mistaken, he's the last thing we had seen from the open day, so, anything after this is a SURPRISE!!!!!

As far as I see it, we had one comment of this sort, and personally I would just ignore that one. The rest were pretty reasoned comments on wether people liked it - or not.

I'm also looking forward to other WF releases. I might have got my expectations too high after weeks of almost nothing from them.

Sculpt is alright. Not their best, but could be better. Whoever they have had painting lately should be shot, almost all of their recent stuff has looked better naked.

Anybody know what this little guy can do in a fight?

I really like it. Interesting to find out it's based on a 'real' mythical beast too. But can you imagine it flying? It'd look like some evil flying reindeer.

Seconding the poor impression of the paintjob, could've done with something more exciting. Like the model though and the fact that they're working from Borges is brilliant.
Anyone care to enlighten me as to what its rules are like?

I quite like it, but I like FW's whole monster rampage even more. The Preyton have an odd name and an underwhelming paint scheme, but the model does the job. It's always nice with monsters mutated by Beastmen in the deep woods.

Come on, FW/WF. Throw us a bone here.
I think someone have been spoiled by FW in the past.
