    New Tau Army

    40K Army: Tau
    Hey everyone,
I just recently purchased a Tau Fire Warrior squad and am hoping to build from there (no duh right). I was wondering if you had any pointers on the best way to equip them, lists that have worked well for you or anything like that. I'm new to the 40K miniature game but know the background pretty well so I figured I'd get an army to battle friends with. I was thinking about just equipping this squad with all pulse rifles just based on increased range as opposed to carbines. Any advice?

    Thanks guys!

    Best way to equip tau?

Bin them and get marines XD

but in all seriousness you will quickly realize that you hate fire warriors... and you will equip them however you like because you will end up taking the bare minimum with them

I disagree, I play tau at 1,500pts and I run 3 squads, they are equiped as follows:

12 warriors, Team leader, markerlight, multi-tacker, and rifles
12 warriors, Team leader, markerlight, multi-tacker, and rifles
6 warriors, carbines (in a devilfish)

this way the 2 12 man teams can sit static, in cover, and while the 11 guys pop off shots at 30" at your enemies troops the 2 team leaders can use there markerlights to hit tanks for seeker missiles ect...

alot of people overlook the fact that a marker from a warrior squad can kill tanks... they seem to assume that there only good for killing other troops

I hope you equip your Shas'ui with Target Locks instead of Multi-trackers... (Same points, very different functions :P )

Don't waste any points to equip them, they are way too inefficient. Just get them straight, maybe with a shas'ui to get 8Ld, and put them all in a devilfish so they can survive a little bit longer.
If you're gonna face hordes, you can take like 36 of them, but if you're against marines, forget it and take a maximum of 12.

Bonding knife is a sometimes equip item, if you're going to be hugging your back deploy line, no need for a knife, if you're going to put em forward to hold/contest maybe.

Markerlights are only useful on them really in a gunline set up and with multiple units of firewarriors doing mass fire tactics.

Otherwise just take the number you want and take pulse rifles, pulse carbines are fine and all, but tend to be underwhelming compared with the pulse rifles for kills, and if you play alot of marines, good luck getting a pinning test to do more than irritate them.

For what they can do, I still think Fire Warriors cost too much. I think 8pts per warrior would be a more fair price considering how poorly they do in combat and that they're only BS3.

As for wargear and tactics; its always better to take full sized squads if they're on foot. 12 Fire Warriors, one of them being a Shas'la with a markerlight and bonding knife. At leadership 8 (with the Shas'la) they will be failing morale checks more often than people think. If you take the minimum squad, you put them in a devilfish with carbines and EMP grenades. I would then give the fish smart missile systems, targeting array and disruption pod. They cost a lot, but will make up for the lack of fire warriors. Then if dreadnaughts or walkers are nearby, your fire warriors can get out and EMP it.

For the rest of your army you want broadsides, path finders and crisis suits.
