Season of War - Republican Romans (6mm Baccus)

Hi all, this is my first forray into historical gaming! With the help of my gaming buddies, I am writing a set of rules for ancients. The intention is for the rules to be lighter and a bit more casual then some of the more heavy games out there. In terms of the basing, we have decided to go for 30x20mm with characters being based on pennies. I realise that these guys may not be 100% historically accurate in terms of colours etc although I did do a bit of research, but I have tried to make the force coherent and 'together'. Without further ado...

    Army Shot (Plus basing jars!)

Princepes (Baccus Marians) - One base at the back happens to be a test base but is serving to fill a gap!

    And there's more!

    Roman Cavalry (Equites)

    General and Commander

And....Drumroll...I have taken a break from all the red to start a rabble of celts, here's a test base

C&C always welcome, and if anyone is interested in the rules set, let me know, testers always welcome

They look fantastic ( I have Baccus Late Romans, Huns & Goths) but where are the Triarii?

Very observant! Not to fear, I haven't left them out completely, they are currently sitting undercoated on my 'to do' pile!

Very nice! I've been strongly considering some Baccus 6mm armies; I just love the look of a 6mm army, at least from pictures. I'm trying to motivate myself to finish my 28mm stuff so I can justify further expendtures. :\

Right, quick update, bit of progress on the celts, now have 4 bases painted up with a 5th on the way.

I aim to get this unit to 12 bases and then move on to doing a second, pretty daunting, but celts have got to have numbers behind them right?

Very nice paintjob for 6 mm figures!

What made you decide on 6 mm instead of 15 mm or 28 mm?

Fluffy - Several reasons for settling on 6mm.

A few of my gaming circle had a few (for a fantasy game actually) and I really liked the look of them. I had played 28mm for a lot of my life (Warhammer, 40K etc) and so fancied a complete change up. I Have dabbled in 15mm as well mind, but I really like the epic feel to 6mm armies; a unit with the same footprint as say 20 28mm models could have 100 individuals in it. The final factor was the painting style, it suits me quite well, I'm not the best painter and struggled to get 28mm models the way I really wanted them to be, so I have felt fairly succesful in 6mm as you have to place the importance on making things stand out as opposed to smooth blends and NMM!

You don't need to finish the 28mm to start the 6mm!
You need to finish the 28mm to buy more 28mm.. moving into different scales means you can start a new pile of unpainted lead!
I whole heartedly and honestly swear thats how it works..

Hey all, apologies for the big gap in posting. Unfortunately life got in the way as it tends to! Turns out planning a wedding and decorating a house paired with full time work doesn't leave too much room for romans/celts etc Ah well, it hasn't all been bad news!

Here are some WIP celts, 2 'lollies' worth of celtic swordsmen and 1 of light cavalry. I also had a birthday recently and some presents have arrived via post thanks to my lovely Fiance! Fanatics, more warriors and some Celtic generals, so plenty to keep my brushes busy.

Whilst painting up these guys and waiting for coats to dry I also started work on a random Challenger tank that a good friend of mine threw my way! So, although a few centuries out of my usual log, here it is!

Coming along nicely, Interesting painting with the lack of undercoat! Looking forward to seeing those fanatics.
Got some love for that tank too!
