Say you were playing against tk's and you won combat by 3 and you had skellies on you front and rear and a king on the flank. Would each unit and the king take 3 wounds?

Yes, if you won combat by three, then each unit with the Unstable rule would take three wounds.
i remember my VC friend arguing it didnt work that way, i informed him if i lose all my units take break tests , all his take crumble
2.5k+ bretonnian army
Brets 3/4/3
1.5k Dark Elf army
DE 4/1/0
Alright just making sure we have been playing right.
Also an single enemy in a challenge takes wounds also?

Just to clarify something because there was a VC player in my gaming group that was taking separate unstable wounds on his VC lord that lost combat. Units, not characters(unless the character is in a unit by himself), take unstable wounds which are distributed as shooting. So if the king in the flank is the only model in the flank then he'll take unstable wounds. If he's in a unit, the unit he's in will take 3 unstable wounds which means the king will probably be fine.
That is correct. If there is sufficient wounds left in the unit to soak up the wounds for unstable, then the characters in the unit will not be harmed. Once the rank/file are destroyed the wounds will be distributed as evenly among characters left, VC player allocates those wounds.
