    Who is your wizard?

Hey guys I am not sure if this place is the right place for this thread but....

I am currently putting together a painted set of quest for myself and my girlfriend to play with, up until now we having mostly been using my old heros quest models, which are nice and schlacked with old testers enamel, but I've been putting steady time into the baddies, and now I am starting to contemplate hero models.

I love the gandolf like feel of the old wizard models for both quest games, particularly their floppy hats and big beards. Problem is I can't find a model I like to be our new wizard character. Ideally id like to pick up both a male and female, since the girl friend enjoys gender equality (although not equity in the armor or clothing of the models sadly). I'm also a stickler for scale so here are my other planned character models:

Elf: Avatar of War Wood Elf
Dwarf: GW Dwarf lord with great weapon (my favorite fantasy mini of all time)
Barbarian: Hasslefree Sona and Wolf, maybe a reaper barbarian as seen in my plog, but I'm unconvinced the scaling is good.
    Wizard: ?

We will expand the hero selection as we go along as well. So my question to you guys is who/what model do you use for your wizards?

Thanks very much for any help!

I have a suspicion he's going to be part of the 'Bones' range which means he'll only be a couple of quid

    Re: Who is your wizard?

I use Nicodemous as my wizard

I find him pretty Gandalf-like, but with a tough, aggressive feel that makes him a bit more of an adventurer. Did buy the Empire Wizard box set so my wife could make her own wizard, but there are so many bits I just can't decide how to build my one!

Reaper is probably going to be your best bet for clothed/non-pornographic female wizards, although the Brettonian enchantresses aren't too bad (just not too detailed or tough looking )

Thanks Andy! Yeah, the bones wizard might be just the trick... I find I am having trouble even wanting to paint the heroes, painting little evil gibbery things is just so much fun, please keep posting guys!

Dunno what the odds are but mine was always Nicodemous as well! I absolutely love that figure, one of my favourite GW figs ever and he's a great looking wizard, he also looks like a modern version of the artwork on the WHQ card.

Ah Warhammer Quest, it's been far too long since I played, at least 10 years now, we spent a solid 5 years on and off in my youth getting our Wizard, Wardancer, Warrior Priest and Pit Fighter up to Battle Level 8 - good times!

    Re: Who is your wizard?

Thanks guys, yeah that wizard looks the part indeed, is he a gw or reaper mini? Scantily clad females aren't a problem, there will just be a little bemoaning about what a nerdy game we are playing when yet another perky boob, size 0, mail bikini wearing female makes an appearance but since I do all the painting and purchasing it's not really a big deal. I love the red-box games wizards, but I am afraid they will look too small next to all the gw monsters, snortings of goblin sized doom!

He's GW. Pretty sure he was released for Mordheim as a Hired Sword (think I picked him up pre-release at a Games Day moons ago) but after a quick scan of their website he doesn't appear to be available anymore.

eBay is your friend, happy hunting!

    Re: Who is your wizard?

Yes, I agree daemon slave, a Forgeworld wizard would probably be just the ticket, seems like the few bits of bobs I still buy for 40k only come from fw these days, probably because I sculpt most everything else, but also gws proportions can be a little off putting at times. Thanks for the replies guys!

That model is up for auction on eBay right now (not my auction). He's pro painted and looks REAL nice! I use that same model as well and highly recommend it. I'm not at home right now, but maybe i'll load up a couple of other old GW Wizards that i like to use for WHQ as well as some of the females my wife uses.

    Re: Who is your wizard?

Thanks little monk, painting does indeed look nice, but I'd like to paint everything for my dungeon, since I'm trying to keep a general feel to all the minis, in fact I've even bought replacements for some of the things I've already painted because the colors were out of wack with my theme (check out my log to see what I mean). It'd be great if you wouldn't mind posting some of your own character models when you've got a chance!

My wife sometimes uses the raven staff lady (Reaper Dark Heaven Legends - Fiona, Female Druid), which is also obviously a great druid and a Kislevite Shamen (Raven). Her current Wizard is the light blue one, although i think the mini is actually an Elf. The 3rd from the left was one of the first that she ever painted (i'm sure she would say that she would paint if differently nowadays). The last one is the only GW piece, although i can't remember exactly which one (Bretonnian)?

Like many others, i use Nicodemus as my main Wizard. The other painted one is a good alternative and i believe he's the Grey Wizard. I also use him for the Kislevite Shaman (Raven). I look forward to painting the other two since they have a couple of good staff poses!

Here is another female Wizard my wife likes to use as well as some ones that i plan on painting up (a Druid and Warlock in there as well). I don't know what company she is from. The rest in the pics are all GW.

mmmmm Samantha Fox, those were the days when a page 3 was a page 3.

Not sure if this counts, but I love the female vampire model.

Thanks little monk! And Harry and orlanth, thanks for the suggestions. I'm strongly tempeted to purchase the bright wizard from the new empire death star cart and then sculpt him a nice bushy beard, but I'm not sure about replicating a big goofy hat... And it seems to me those have got to be the pre requisites for being a wizard in an early 90s dungeon crawl

I like the WHQ box wizard - I'd recommend him. Alternatively, Talisman 3rd Ed had a few wizards. Or the old Fantasy Empire Wizards. I don't have good pics of mine handy or I would put them in here.

Actually there were three wizard types allowed in the early 90's ....

    1) Bushy beard, pointy hat.
    2) Scantily clad, large breasts.
    3) Bumbling apprentice.

Ha. Sounds very much just like it was back in the 80s, although they were a bit smaller in scale and contained lead. I've got a couple favorites if my own. Perhaps I'll post a pic.
