New to BFG - which ruleset?

    Greetings all!

I have decided to finally bite the bullet and get into BFG properly. I bought the boxed set many years ago but never really got into it in the same way as 40k. But no more! I've bought a whole load of IN ships off eBay. Problem is - which rules to use? I'm aware there's the official rules on the GW site, the (unofficial) BFG FAQ 2010 and also BFG: Revised. Is there any general consensus on which to use?

(I'm probably getting waaaay ahead of myself with rules since I haven't even found anyone to play with yet...).

    Cheers!

    Start straightforward:
Use the GW rules, add the FAQ2010 (plus compendium (=various pdf's) at that location) (since it is a must for Rogue Traders, Tau, Space Marines and adds good bits in general)

If you do not like the official Eldar rules use Eldar MMS rules.

Read Revised after you read the official rules. Compare what seems better to you. Get consesus with opponents. The point values/stats for ships are better in BFG revised then the official rules even if you use the official rules for everything else.

Read through the basic rules, get confused by the ordenance rules and probably a few other things, then hunt down FAQ2010.

From the little I've seen of BFG tournaments, basic+FAQ2010 seems to be what is used, though they come up with their own scenarios.

Hi, where can I find the FAQ2010 and compendium?
There is also a book named Armada. What's that?
    Thx in advance.

    To add on Armada:
this was a GW book as an expannsion on the rulebook. It contained rules for Marines, nids, necrons, Dark Eldar, Tau plus more ships for IN, Eldar, Orks, Chaos.
This book is no longer for sale, but the pdf's are available at the gw website.

Hey this link here should work fine.

As for the rules, get the main 2 book ( core book and armada). If you have any questions look at FAQ. If you want/wish/feel like going off the grid they are a number of fan made rules and expansions many of which those before me have mentioned.

You should keep in mind that as BFG have very little published for it these days ( FW does throw us the odd bone like IA 10) staying 100% official might be both limiting and take away from the long term value of the system.
