    Emperor Battleship Model

I've managed to acquire an Emperor BB off eBay, however it does not have a flying base. From memory, the Emperor is a pretty heavy model which may have caused some problems with the regular flying base. Can anyone suggest a good (cheap) way of getting this beast decently mounted? I've heard talk of magnets before but am not sure what's really involved.

    Cheers for any suggestions.

use a large flying base and clip the length of the stem. I've done this for all of my battleships and grand cruisers and I've never had an issue with them breaking or not supporting the weight of the ship. IF you do it right, you won't need to glue the stem into the model either since the fit will hold it in place.

If you have the box set you probably have a handful of the short stems already, those work great and dont require any clipping, just snap off the fiddly bitthat gose in the standard cruiser sized hole. I used brass rod on mine tho but thats because i wanted the bbs to sit above the rest of the fleet.

I double base my larger battleships. Using a large flying base, I fill in the hole with gs and drill a hole farther back and forward of the original. I then take a smaller flying stand piece and put it in the original BB stick placement (for gaming purposes) and the forward one wherever I think would best support the model.

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I'll purchase some large flying bases off the GW store and give it a go with some green stuff.

While we're at it, any ideas on how to remove stem bits broken off in model holes where the flying stand has snapped off? Maybe a small hand drill?

    Drill it out
Make the hole big enough for the stem not just the tip (as suggested above)

Best thing to do is use brass rod instead of the plastic base stem. It don't cost hardly anything and you have the assurance that it will never break. 3mm gauge rod will take anything in the BFG range - you just need to drill out the receiving hole in the model a bit. You can also use a washer when you glue the rod to the base for extra stability.
