Ordered a set of Battlegroup rules this afternoon!
I have a question, scales mentioned are 15mm and 20mm.
I have a FOW 15mm Soviet army and a 28mm Soviet platoon (with heavy weapon support) that is currently being used with Point Blank rules.
Will the BGK rules fit easily for these scales or is it optimised for 20mm?
I've already "bought in" either way, just intrigued!
No idea about BGK rules, but in general re-scaling a set of rules is simple: just multiple all of the distances used (including template diameters, base sizes and table sizes) with a given constant, and everything should work identically to the original rules, since all of the distances keep the same proportions.
For example if this game is designed for individually mounted 1/72 figures with 20 mm diameter bases, and your collection consists of individually mounted 28 mm models on 25 mm diameter bases, then simply multiplying all the distances with 1.25 would give you identical results (since 20 mm x 1.25 = 25 mm). Or you could play it with individually mounted 15 mm figures on 20 mm diameter bases without any adjustments.
In any case, many WWII games (and also other periods) use different scales for ground scales and figure scales, such as using 1:72 scale figures with 1:300 ground scale (ie. the figures are oversized compared to the ground scale). This makes it possible to fit more models on the table, since eg. a real WWII infantry battalion might have found itself occupying a whole kilometer of frontage (to fit that on a tabletop, you probably need to resort to 1:400 or 1:500 ground scale).
So if the figure and ground scales are out of proportion to begin with, you should be perfectly able to shift into smaller figures without any effect, as long as base sizes are kept constant. So if the rules are written with 1:72 scale figures in mind but actually use 1:300 ground scale, you could use them perfectly well with 1:100, 1:144 or 1:300 scale figures without any adjustments.
Came home at lunch, saw the advert on The Minitures Page, went to your Blog, Ordred right away. Would not want to miss out.

Here too, sounds fantastic!
Does anyone have an idea about the size of the book? At £30 I assume it will be in around 200 to 300 pages, hardback, full colour (apart from original pics of course), etc.?
Scales - Will work fine as is for 15mm and 20mm to be honest. 28mm... Actually I think it could work alright with no change. YMMV.
Size of Book - Currently over 200 pages, full colour but still with the modelling/hobby section to add in.
I hope to have a more indepth AAR this weekend - now Im allowed to give away a bit more - so that may answer so more queries.
Should be some previews of the pages over the next few weeks, and we have a BGK demo at the Battlegroup South show in Bovington Tank Museum in the UK... Im flying over to the UK for it!
Mine was pre-ordered the moment I saw it up. Looking forward to seeing it at Bovington.
Piers, pardon my ignorance but is this along the same lines as KGN?

Thanks for the replies to my scale queries guys. I think it'll all work out fine!
Another quick query; will the army lists in KGN be compatible with army lists in BGK?

It will be familiar to KGN players but the mechanics have been reworked. Not much is the same other than the basic concepts.
So army lists have changed, artillery has changed, aimed fire and suppression has changed... Lots of differences but ones which take KGN to a new level.
Is this a skirmish game, or for larger scale battles? Are the models based individually or as groups? Are there points or is it mission based like FoF? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm trying to find a good set of WWII rules.
Thanks, big p, I think I'll give this game a shot.
Also, are there other army lists planned for the future? I know this is meant for the eastern front. Still, if it's a good set of rules, I'd like give other players the option of choosing Italian, American, British, ect.
EDIT - Eh, sorry, I've read a bit more and answered my own question. Thanks though.
