    Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

I have just moved house and decided, since I'm doing this hobby in a new home it’s probably a good time to start a new army. When I was packing I came across my old Cadian army, I never got very far with it so I've decided to have another go. The army was designed to be a Storm Trooper army using the doctrines from the previous Imperial Guard codex to use Storm Troopers as troops, and give my other units carapace armour so that I was fielding an army of Storm Troopers. Unfortunately with the current codex I can no longer use Storm Troopers as troops but I still intent to use the same theme by using Veterans with carapace armour as my troops instead. So far I have two units of six Storm Troopers, a Hellhound (converted from a Space Marine Razorback), and a heavily converted Command Squad. The models are all pretty old and have been gathering dust for years so they need a bit of reviving, but here they are-

    The whole army.

    The Hellhound.

And the converted Command Squad and Storm Trooper Commanders.

As you can see they do need some TLC and their paint jobs need touched up, the Command Squad needs painted and I need to completely repaint any areas of skin.
That'll be my first project, after that I'll be adding new units. First off is a unit of Veterans with shot guns and I've built a Storm Trooper Commissar to accompany the Command Squad-

    All C&C welcome.

I also ran a mechanised stormtrooper force with the previous codex so i look forward to seeing your progress with your reworked force

The Forgeworld parts make such a huge difference on the Cadian models, getting the head size back to somewhat normal proportions helps the whole model look great. Look forward to seeing your progress, it's always neat to see someone got back over their old models!

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

@svien if you would have read the post you would know that its not a rhino but a hellhound....

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

@svien: whaaaglord is indeed correct; the Rhino has been converted into a Hellhound. I made it years ago when the previous Hellhound model was out; it was an ugly little tank so I decided to make my own.

Sorry for the delay, here are the pictures I said would be up yesterday-

The revamp starts on my Command Squad.

And work begins on the Veterans.

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

I guess the Veterans aren’t that interesting but fear not! They're very much a work in progress. I want them to look a bit chunky so I've given them a bit extra armour, like the knee pads, and they're all getting a lot of extra gear around they're waist and backpacks, but they will be getting painted separately. I also want the unit to have a bit of character so all the Veterans will have exposed heads, this also works for making them a bit chunkier as I'm deliberately only using smaller heads such as the ones I got from Forgeworld, the Cadian Command Squad kit, the Catachan Command squad kit and the Catachan Heavy Weapons team. Here's the next pair of Veterans-

I also got my Medic painted up-

Sorry the models are so far away, I was having difficulty getting my camera to focus.

And I'm needing some help. Since I'm using exposed heads for the Veterans I don't want to use the same one twice, but I'm running out fast. Does anybody know what other kits might have similar sized heads to the ones I'm using?

    All C&C welcome.

Nice log, I'll keep a look out..on this

ps: I like those vets, with proper sized shotguns.. I've got 5 laying about, until I buy another 5 to compliment the squad and be able to make a whole unit out of it

    Cheers Rhaivaen

Here's what I got done yesterday-

    The Storm Trooper Commissar.

In games he uses the rules for a Lord Commissar but the Lord model and fluff doesn't really fit with my theme, so I made a Storm Trooper version of him instead.

And I started work on the Veteran Commander.

Sorry about the blurry photo, I had to use the camera on my phone as I left my camera at my mum's house.

nice work! really like the stormtrooper comissar.
just the head of the vet. commander doesnt fit in my opinion. I'd rather go for a more military style hair cut on the commander =) after all hes not some low level soldier but a commander

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

@ whaaaglord: I had the same thought, but I kinda like the more rugged appearance the hair gives him. It's like he's been in the field for a long time. That's pretty much the idea of this army; they're the highly trained guardsmen who operate independently from the rest of the army and are away from the main army for months at a time. That’s why each guardsman has so much gear with him as well.

I finally retrieved my camera so here's what I've been up to-

    The commander is painted.

    That completes the Command Squad.

I've done the first two Veterans.

I'm not happy with they're skin, it'll be getting a wash and some more highlights.

And on a smaller note, I added some detail to the Hellhound.

I built the first Veteran for the second squad.

And I gave one of my Storm Trooper Sergeants a Bolt gun. He used to have a Shotgun but the rules don't allow him to have that anymore.

    All C&C welcome.

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

I like these a lot. The Rhino conversion to a Hellhound is nice. I'd have flipped the turret ring to be up towards the middle rather than the back simply to give it a better aesthetic. Though I had to cringe at the belt fed bolter on the commander, lol. I hate those things, haha.

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

I'm glad you like the Hellhound, though it is a very minor conversion. I made it years ago when my modelling skills weren't very good, they're still not great but they are better so I'm planning on more tank conversions! I really want to do some Rhino/Chimera hybrids but they'll cost about £50 plus P&P, so I probably won't make too many of them.

I got a few more Veterans painted today, I'm still not happy with they're skin though.

Lovely stuff and full of character! I especially love the Comissar.

Re: Syn’s Cadian Special Operations Platoon

    Thanks Galvatron

This is a pretty rubbish update, I recently started working full time so I've not been doing a lot of painting but I'm planning to order the tanks I need to start my Chimeras when I get paid at the end of the month so the plan is to have my ratlings (I got Ratlings) and Veterans done by the time they arrive. For now, here are the Rats.

And can anybody guess what Character this is going to be?

First up, nice choice of beer.
Second, this is a great log. The greens are especially well done and all your time spent on your Necrons has certainly improved your edge highlighting. Looking forward to seeing the Ratlings complete.
