Thread: Too many good wargames!

    Too many good wargames!

    Pardon the whineseeing.

    I can't have everything I want!

There are simply too many awesome games and minis made by too many companies. I can't possibly buy and use everything I want quickly enough. Between Mantic, Privateer press, Dust, Wyrd, Cipher Studios, Avatars of War, Troll Forged, Wargames Factory, Spartan Games, Soda Pop minis, and companies that make nice display minis, there is just TOO. MUCH. TO BUY.

Some people say that there hasn't been a better time to be a wargamer-- It's kind of true, but I would be lying if I said the cumulative total cost of my wishlist on thewarstore wasn't overwhelming.

Now, to find some spare time.

    Re: Too many good wargames!

I know exactly what you mean. In addition to my Malifaux and Warmachine I find myself constantly being dragged close to the abyss by other games. In the past few months alone all of the following have caught my attention and demanded to be bought and played.

    Sedition Wars
    Relic Knights
    Bushido
    Blackwater Gulch
    Empire of the Dead

Luckily I have managed to resist all but sedition wars so far, but that hasn't stopped me from buying a number of Studio McVey resin minis, Infamy Miniatures, and eyeing up the likes of Kingdom Death and Raging Heroes too.

It does really seem that whatever your preferred aesthetic or period, there is a quality game or manufacturer out there to meet your needs at the moment.

    Re: Too many good wargames!

Yeah, likewise. At the moment, Infinity has my attention, but I also want to play Warmachine, Tomorrow's War, Dust Warfare, Anima Tactics and Malifaux. And if 40k 6th Ed includes some decent skirmish-style rules, I'll want to be all over that, too.

I completely agree - and then, when we do manage to actually buy all the great minis around, we then have to paint all the damn things!

    Re: Too many good wargames!

Yes I fully agree as well. That is why I have limited myself to get what I want from two companies for now, being Tor Gaming with Relics, Warploque Miniatures with Arcworlde and to actually paint it all. Two companies on a more irregular base: Wyrd with Malifaux and Puppet Wars and Zombiesmith with their 28mm Quar range. Besides all of this I try to keep up with my Goblin army for which preparations are ongoing to add Orcs, my VC who are currently being build, and my first love Dwarfs. Those will see a major Avatars of War addition in the future. And terrain from Tabletop World is at the top of my want list as well.
Besides all the ones named already I have eyed miniatures from at least 10 other companies and put them on a list.

I would just need unlimited funds to get them all, have most pro painted for me and rent a warehouse to suitably store them all. Was there not a thread recently about what you could do with a lottery win miniature wise? Guess I will have to start as soon as possible.

There is no way I can get all I want and paint it. There is no way I can store all I want. Does that stop me from trying? No, but there is no lottery involved. My monthly allowance has already doubled for two years in a row. I cannot double it again but it already covers a lot of what I could do. Now I just need to learn to paint a whole lot faster. I am quite content at the moment.

Not wanting to leave so many others unnamed, from the top of my head: Freebooter Miniatures with Freebooter's Fate, Warhammer Forge and a wee bit Games Workshop, Hasslefree Miniatures, Gamezone Miniatures, Cypher Studios with Hell Dorado, Titan Wargames, Privateer Press, Titan-forge, Mantic Games and many more in no particular order.

I'm having the same problem. Just dropped near enough $600 on Sedition Wars and Mantic, want Dropzone Commander, got Malifaux on the go. Doesn't leave me time or money to get into Avatars of War, Infinity, Norsgard, Hell Dorado or Freebooters Fate. And I'm sure there's more!

    Re: Too many good wargames!

Yup too many awesome games out there... Currently I have models for:

    1.Uncharted Seas (Spartan Games)
    2.Dystopian Wars (Spartan Games)
    3.Warhammer (Games Workshop)
    4.Warhammer 40k (Games Workshop)
5.Lord of the Rings (Games Workshop)
    6.Freebooters Fate (Werner's Clocke)
    7.Malifaux (Wyrd Miniatures)
    8.Infinity (Corvus Belly)
    9.Dust Tactics (Fantasy Flight Games)
    10.Flames of War (Battlefront)
    11.Kings of War (Mantic Games)

Mind you Kings of War was just freebie stuff I got with some orders from Maelstrom/wayland... so its only a couple of models. Dust Tactics is more of a boardgame. Lord of The Rings is something I started the hobby with but don't do jack all with anymore, same for my 40k orks. Dystopian wars is just one starter fleet...

Warhammer, Flames of War and Uncharted Seas are my games I play the most, followed by irregular play of infinity and dust tactics.

    Re: Too many good wargames!

Totally know what the OP is saying, although I'm lucky/unlucky in the sense that as I have gotten older, I just don't have the patience/time I used too. That means I have naturally limited the games I play. In the last few days I have had a go at Infinity and Malifaux and while Infinity was easier than I thought, Malifaux was much more complicated. Not that that stopped me spending nearly £100 GBP's on it yesterday.

So my games are now Warmachine, Malifaux and soon to be Infinity, as soon as I have my Haqqislam. Oh yeah! And I'm doing my Hammer House of Horror themed Undead army using mostly Mantic and Malifaux models, lead by an OOP GW Vampire. Oh and then there's Dust Tactics. I would love to get into that. Then there's my LOTR Dwarfs and Goblins. If GW brought out Blood Bowl again, with some sexy new teams, I know I would buy that. I'm also getting Forge Fathers and Orx tomorrow.

So much for limiting myself in my old age huh?

Yeah, contemplating getting some Dystopian Wars or Uncharted Seas right now (can also fill out the latter using dreadfleet models...). But also contemplating using some Freebooter miniatures for Empire of the dead, BFG for Firestorm: Armada and wishing for some Necromunda and Blood Bowl...

    Re: Too many good wargames!

I definitely fall into this camp, although kind-of-luckily for me I don't have time or opponents for a lot of the games I'd like to get into, which keeps me from buying new minis.

I'd really love to get started on all of the following, though, in no particular order:

    Relics
    Infinity
    SAGA
Mailfaux (I'm 50/50 on the range, but would definitely be playing bayou gremlins if I did buy in)
Hordes (not actually that interested in playing, but I really want some Trollblood minis!)
Legends of the High Seas (have the book, but need some pirates)
G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. (also have the book, but need some VSF figs)
Star Trek away teams (don't even know what rules I'd use, but I know which minis I want)
I'm intrigued by the revelation that Warploque is planning a ruleset

The somewhat recent discovery of 15mm sci-fi is also probably going to hurt my wallet. I haven't taken the plunge on any yet, except for some quar, but I really want to get a bunch of Khurasan's 15's, especially aliens/marines/predators.

    EDIT: forgot about:

    Deepwars/Shadowsea
    Strange Aeons
    Rise of the Occulites
    eBob's Rebellion

The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

Hm, even a lack of opponents doesn't appear to stop me.
In several cases I have even bought more than one faction of a game, "in case somebody wants to give it a try".

    Re: Too many good wargames!

    Let's see now.

I currently play WM/H and Infinity, as well as Dys Wars/Firestorm Armada now and then.
I plan to play Dropzone Commander and Saga Warfare.
I am slowly realizing that WM/H fills my risk management need to such a degree that Blood Bowl might be on its way out. If DzC is really good Dystopian Wars might be in for the same treatment (also, depending on rules).

My "defunct" games (that I once played a lot of but that are now on the auction block or sold) are Full Thrust, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Man o'War, Necromunda, Raven and Epic.

i am the same, Im some cases, Like Urban war from Urban Mammoth, the Factions i let people use to try out, tend go out and buy the faction themselves after the game and get better with them than i am. So i move on to a new faction to try out.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. The broadening of my gaming interests started with KoW and Warpath last year and hasn't stopped growing. A lack of money, time and space is the only thing stopping me on Dust tactics, relics and a few others.

Glad to know I am not the only one. It payed off this weekend though when I taught my friend how to play Infinity and got him hooked. Now I just need to show him warmachine, dystopian wars, KoW, Warpath, Malifaux and flames of war

    Re: Too many good wargames!

While I'm currently in a GW Fantasy fix, this seems to be the exception rather than the rule to my gaming habits. I have Saracens and Westerners for Helldorado, Ariadna and Knightly Orders for Infinity, 2 Resurrectionist crews, a Victorias crew, an Arcanist crew, and two Gremlin Crews for Malifaux and nearly 200 points of Warmachine Mercenaries. While I want to play Flames of War, I am also very interested in Dropzone Commander. If there were any interest in my friend circle (which thankfully there isn't), I'd start a Federated States army for Dystopian Wars. Oh, and 40k finally seems like a game worth playing too...I might just have to shell out for a motley Inquisitorial collection...

    Re: Too many good wargames!

I'm probably in over my head in terms of getting things painted currently

I've got several Dark Eldar for 40K, on-and-off working on WHFB Vampire Counts, every non-Minion Hordes army (shut up, I have a sickness >_>), a bunch of Relics stuff headed my way, a couple of Bushido starters, and a whole load of Sedition Wars. Luckily most of that isn't cluttering up my shelves just yet...but even if I do get a handle on them, I'll have a ton of KoW stuff right on the tail... I've got some busy months ahead of me

I'd love to get back into Anima Tactics as my Wissenschaft hasn't seen play for awhile. I'd like to give Malifaux a go (I've got a Justice box, but upon inspection she actually bores me a bit...I need to go for something weirder than the Guild) and I wouldn't mind Infinity, Warpath, Dystopian Wars, and Dropzone Commander.

I'm not about to jump into any of them any time soon, but there's a lot of appealing stuff out there.
...and a little help comes in a little glass vial in a gun pressed against her anatomy...

MERCS, Dystopian Wars, Bushido, Deep Wars, Deus Vult, Anima Tactics....yep, far too much awesome out there. Well, at least my game will be cheap to get into, but I do worry about the oversaturation and how that will effect my future business D:

    Re: Too many good wargames!

I'm looking at the lists people post and I keep thinking "Hey, that's not that bad."
    Without any guarantee for completeness:
    1. Warhammer Fantasy (13 armies)
    2. Warhammer 40K (4 armies)
    3. LotR (3 bigger forces and a couple of small ones)
    4. Blood Bowl (14 or so teams)
    5. Mordheim (10 warbands, maybe more)
    6. Necromunda (2 gangs)
    7. Freebooter's Fate (4 crews)
    8. Malifaux (14 crews)
    9. Uncharted Seas (4 fleets)
    10. Warmachine (3 factions)
    11. Carnevale
    12. Eden
    13. Infinity
    14. Legends of the High Seas
    15. Reanimated

The saddest thing is that I've only ever played five of those games, and the last time is more than half a year ago.
That aside I still feel tempted by Saga, Dystopian Wars, Hordes, Blackwater Gulch...
I really need to find a way to play more. Maybe that will take my mind of buying more stuff that sits unused.
