Nothing wrong with un-played minis - for a lot of people building, converting, and painting is a hobby in and of itself! I find I get almost as much enjoyment out of that as I do out of playing games, even if I do build/paint at a snail's pace.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

For me it isn't. Not really, anyway.
For me, playing comes first, but regrettably only in theory.

    Without any guarantee for completeness:
    1. Warhammer Fantasy (13 armies)
    2. Warhammer 40K (4 armies)
    3. LotR (3 bigger forces and a couple of small ones)
    4. Blood Bowl (14 or so teams)
    5. Mordheim (10 warbands, maybe more)
    6. Necromunda (2 gangs)
    7. Freebooter's Fate (4 crews)
    8. Malifaux (14 crews)
    9. Uncharted Seas (4 fleets)
    10. Warmachine (3 factions)
    11. Carnevale
    12. Eden
    13. Infinity
    14. Legends of the High Seas
    15. Reanimated

The saddest thing is that I've only ever played five of those games, and the last time is more than half a year ago.
That aside I still feel tempted by Saga, Dystopian Wars, Hordes, Blackwater Gulch...
I really need to find a way to play more. Maybe that will take my mind of buying more stuff that sits unused.
I too have a distressing back log of armies/forces - and am painting up several other peoples armies as well.

    1) Warhammer fantasy/KoW - 10 armies
    2) 40K - 1 and a bit armies
    3) Man O War - 1 and a bit fleets
    4) Blood Bowl - 5 teams
    5) 15mm fantasy - 2 armies
    6) Nectromunda - 3 gangs
    7) (The big one) NetEpic - 7 (immense - full chapter sized) armies
    8) Warmachine - 2 grind teams
    9) Numerous board game/other fun miniatures

Add to that several WHF armies and a collection of Epic several times bigger than my own of other peoples. I've only ever played 4 of those games as well. It's sad really, paint/play one model/game and another two spring up in it's place.....
Trying to convince Warseer that GW are anything less than perfect is like trying to teach a horde of zombies that lettuce is a perfectly acceptable alternative to brains.

Likewise though we can console ourself in the knowledge that the industry would be in a dire straight without our lead piles lol

My oldest is 9 and just getting interested in playing miniatures games with me (although he still doesn't take losing very well - and yes, I try to let him win but his dice rolling is even worse than mine and he does tend to make some pretty questionable tactical decisions...).

Once he and his brother are really into games, it's going to be great! We'll play everything!

Of course, until that happens I have to play a lot of YGO, Pokemon and MtG.

I definitely consider myself a player first, modeler/painter second as well, but just don't have the time or opponents to play as often as I would like. Mostly because in my area it's all 40K and Warmachine, which I'm either 2 editions behind on or never got into. Although, as I get to play less and less I also find that I appreciate modelling/painting more and more, and the end result is that I enjoy playing more too because I have better-looking models than I used to. I used to only buy figures that I knew I would use in a game, but now if I see a nice model I may go out of my way to get it just for the sake of painting it up, and find an in-game use for it later.

This right here. So much this.

I just dropped 160 quid odds on two factions for Dropzone Commander just so that I might be able to play a game with my brothers.

I also dropped over a £100 on three infinity factions when you got the army deals. Which has been the game I have played most over the last year.

Other than that I have minatures for:

    Warhammer 40k
    Puppet Wars
    Kings of War
    Warmachine

What I really need to do is go and find a gaming group and get stuck in.
