thanks, i winged most of it and just copied by sight rather than measuring. got a bit lazy in some places and took alot of short cuts and forgot a few details. got half way through the severed wing before i realized i had made two right wings! DOH!!! had to rip it apart and start again. through the drednought in there last min for a laugh. thought why would the wing be standing that high after an impact. unless it body was proping it up. the dred torn apart in the crash.

this is my seconed peace of crashed SM veh terrian in a series including a drop pod and a land raider in diffrent chapters. currently im bulding a thunderhawk (cliche i know) and crashed thunderhawk 3 peace terrain togeather. i have an idea for a Istvaan V table at some point.

Thats a very nice looking terrain piece you have made. The most impressive part is that you scratch built that thing, rather than just bust up a full kit into a sheet of MDF. Its both very well made and painted.

That's why when they makes a unit plastic and charge the same as when it was metal I don't care. To me the model just got better for the same cost, who cares about anything else.

This looks familiar Great job! Can I suggest spackle for smoothing out that mound of dirt?

I started my own version a few months back, it's been slowly coming together, but I'm soon at the painting stage

Very inspirational! I've been wanting to do some crashed vehicles for ages. How long did that take you to build?

    Re: crashed stormraven

thanks every one for the positive posts.

@Highland piper. i started last march to the third image of the second post. and i kinda lost interest for a year and went traveling around Asia for a bit. when i got back in april, i started reading all the 6th rumors and picked it up again couple of hours a night and some hungover Sundays to finish the build, painted in 6 hours. in total i think 50 hours of spare time here and there. it was just for fun as my storm raven in 5th NEVER survived a game,

@ prowla. all my blood angels bases are based the same way. a kinda red dry dessert on Baal so it was intentional, i only used half a cork place mat for the whole thing. i added small patches of green and brown flock just so it would kinda fitted into all the grassy green color tables out there at the all clubs. i saw your SR in your link. keep at it. post a finished pic on this thread when your done please. would like to see it.

@snake-eyes. thanks for the kudos, the full kit is now £50. all i used to build this was one and a half A4 sheets of .20 plastic card i randomly found for 20p each. lots of games workshop spews. i already paid for them so there more value for money per kit. a pack of 4 super glues i get down the pound shop. so £1. and half a place mat of cork i bought a pack of 5 for £3 so its value was 60p. i use this cork for every thing else too, love this stuff. and random used cardboard boxes. total cost was about £2. not bad i think.

@mrtn. mid way through, some of the people at my local club kept telling me to just keep building it in to a full flyer. but i like games workshop kits and all there detail. i don't think i could hand build some thing to match that level. even if its just that damn expensive now, i know im in the minority here, but i like the look of the storm raven model. also i don't think i need another one in my lists. so i just continued with the original idea and i think a good terrain center piece is just as cool as a good model.

    thanks all again.

Looks great, only change I would of made is I would of had the side exit hatch kicked open with perhaps one of the dead marines from the GW kit.
Very impressive work off the fly mate.

Very impressive. Indeed, the sad thing is people will just assume you chopped up a stormraven model!

thanks guys, my all time favorite quote so far is over in the BoLS web site linked above by David Boucher ''So the Blood Angel player is willing to pay for a Storm Raven only to wreck it, but wont pay to update his rhinos.' i love it when people mistake it for the real thing its so validating. my other fave quote from BoLS is '...Meanwhile, cease & desist letter on it's way from GW legal...'...omg why?! he did get 6 thumbs down though. Warseer is so supportive, thanks every one!!!

@Duke i was going to put some dead marines and open hatch as suggested above, but it ended up being too messy and not enough bits so i glued the hatch closed again

Really well done piece of terrain. I admire your talent. By the way, are those sprue lengths you used for the engines? If so, really creative use for them. Hadn't thought of that. They look really nice.

Edit: Also, one more thing, did you use mostly plasticard for the basic frame, straight up balsa wood, or was it done with foamboard then plasticard used for detail/attachments? Can't tell from the pics.

Another Edit: Looked closer, and it looks like Balsa wood with plasticard coverings. Is that right?

    Re: crashed stormraven

@Redix, i used mounting board left over from my uni days for the frame and clad it with 20w plati-card super glued to the card board and the plastic glue the edges and overlap the plati card, then when its dryed solid after an hour i shave it down to a point. drys solid. i make it a point to always keep any cut offs.

yea, i have a whole box full of empty sprue that i just stuck together. i use them for building material for lots of my builds. youll notice that the broke off wing is completely GW sprues. that way my scratch builds can be 50% GW products. i paid for them so why not get my money's worth?!

just built 4 Space Marine Predator 3x Auto canon and 1x Baal assault cannon turrets using left over cut offs and spare parts.
