    1000 point Dark Eldar Army

    40K Army: Dark Eldar
    Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to Warhammer and have been trying to create a small DE list to work towards. I've started painting up some warriors and have a few wracks and a Haemonculus too. My list is as followed (much borrowed from forum browsing):

    HQ - Haemonculus w/ liquifier 60
    Elite - 3 True Born w/ 3 Blasters in Venom w/DSC 146
    Troop - 5 Warriors w/ 1 Blaster in Venom w/DSC 125
    - as above 125
    - as above 125
    - 5 Warriors w/ 1 Splinter Cannon 55
    - 3 Wracks in Raider w/FF, Aethersails and shock prow 110
    Heavy - Ravager w/FF and NS 125
    - as above 125

    Total 996

I know I'll have to mix up my army depending on opposition but would really appreciate some feedback on this as bare bones. My plan would be to put Haemy with the wracks, give them pain token, they unload on objective, stay safe, and Raider is a suicide AT.

Thanks in advance to any helpers.

Anyone have an opinion on this, or can point me to someone who does would be much appreciated.

Hi! Good to see another Dark Eldar coming to the hobby.

First things first, Warriors may only have a cannon if they number 10 models or more (or 1 cannon for every 10 models, so at 20 they may bring two).

Aside from that, I don't see your wracks doing much, and bringing a unit just so you can buy a raider isn't going to accomplish much; Raiders can and will be shot down by regular bolter fire. The sails and shock prow is one of my favorite builds, as you can use the raider as a missile if you really want to.

Your Trueborn squad looks good, wouldn't change a thing there.

The three warrior squads in the DSC Venoms aren't really my style, as I prefer larger squads for troops, but they work.

My suggestion is drop the 5 man Warrior squad, as it's illegal and will die if anything sneezes towards it. With the extra 55 points you just freed up, buy 4 more Wracks and give them a liquifier. This will give you a troop that can take at least some punishment, as well as another template weapon. Doing this frees up an extra 5 points.

The ravagers, again while not my style (I'd rather have Razorwings) are proven to be very effective. So you have 9 points left to spend on whatever it is you could ever want. I'd recommend a venom blade for mr. Haemonculus.

Overall, this list gives you a good bit of anti-tank and a good bit of anti-infantry at the cost of being very fragile. Sounds like Dark Eldar to me. Just aim the weapons at their intended targets (Dark Lances at armor, for example) and you shouldn't go far wrong. Just beware of close combat, as you don't really have anything with a good CC punch.

Also, it's generally frowned upon to alter your list depending on who you're playing, at least it is around here. The list you have right now, with a few changes, should be able to take on most armies without too much trouble once you get used to the feel of Dark Eldar (and exploding Venoms).

    Thanks for the reply Raul,

Good point about the splinter cannon warriors, I missed that rule. I think I'll scrap them all together like you suggested. The wracks were meant to just hold a base objective but I think I will buff them up it would be good to have another type of troop to use. You are definitely right about the close combat, from everything I read and from the way they look I want them mean at distance and weak at hand to hand and that's what this list will do.

Also, I'd never thought about the "form" of changing your army to get an advantage over opposition. It's more role playing style than I'm used to but I like it.

    Thanks again for the feedback.
