Anyone have any thoughts as to why they don't allow debit cards? Have they ever?

Is it cheaper or something?

It is a bit annoying really having to use a credit card all the time for the online store.

I pay with a debit card all the time. Are you not in the UK?

Ditto Iv'e always been able to use my debit card with them if not I would have no forge world and be a sad panda.

Credit cards cost more in transaction fees but I've never had a problem using Debit Cards with them. Are you using an Electron? Or Solo? A lot of places won't accept those over standard Visa.

I have no problem with mine.

Payment can be made by:
Credit card. (We can currently accept VISA or MasterCard. Sorry, we do not accept American Express.) Debit Card. (We can currently accept Maestro, Solo, Delta and Electron.) All credit and debit card orders will be charged in £ Sterling

I think you have the idea by now, but as another example, I just paid for an order with a debit card.

And, again, every single order I've ever made has been with a debit card...

I think a lot of debit cards now still function as being like a credit card (they have the Visa etc logo on them) and you just happen to take money out of your existing funds rather than borrowing against credit. But perhaps your card is different - are you getting an error or have you just not tried to use it?

On a related note: I used to be able to use my debit card on Forge World's website, up until Visa changed some policies or something, now everytime I try and place an order, it fails to go through, and a block is placed on my account. I then have to call up my bank, spend a half hour on hold, then finally get the block lifted. They can lift it for an hour, but aside from that, the block seems to be eternal. Dunno what happened.

It only happens when I try and purchase something from Forge World. Every other store works fine, including the GW website itself.

I've purchased faaaar to many things from Forgeworld using a Visa Debit card. No problems, ever.

Yep my Debit card works just fine on Forge World's website.

Admittedly there are times I wish it didn't as I can't eat resin, but I've never had any problems.

Here's a salient point: Does your debit card have the VISA or Mastercard logo on it?

Beyond just that - some credit/debit cards will not authorize foreign currency transactions...sometimes it is a security issue for them, other times it is related to the sponsoring banks structure. I know I have one card that I can use anywhere in the US without problems - but when I tried to use it to order some items from Japan, it wouldn't go through. Called up the CC company and had to have them authorize use for foreign purchases.

Contact your bank and see if you need to fill out the form to allow it.

True facts, this is what you might be struggling with. A lot of the big banks use Visa debit, but some of the smaller mickey mouse (local/regional) banks use electron or solo, in which case, you might as well try paying with cheese.

Check the logo on your card. Failing that, can you get a credit card from your bank? I have one with a very low limit just for online purchases I can pay off every month. Can you get one of those?

Must just be me then as last time I tried it would not accept my card. Even though I use it all the time for other things. I'll try it again soon and give them a call if it doesn't work.

It is a visa debit.

I think it may be to do with 3d secure, having to put a password in before the transaction is complete. Ive had a few cards where I have had to chase the bank to get 3dsecure set up (3d secure is sometimes called verified by visa and something else)

Yep, this is a new safety method, implemented about a year ago. You need this to pay at FW, BL and many other companies (e.g. Maelstrom games).

For the MasterCard 3d Secure code you need to apply first via your bank and set up a password, the Visa equivalent works the same way, so you have a password or, as in my case, I recieve an SMS with a TAN prior to each payment. Without this, no payment will be made at all.
