It will be interesting to see what happens in the long run with this situation. As above I predict at first that many SM players will be spamming all kinds of Terminators. It may happen that the meta shifts to counter this and eventually they lose popularity; we'll have to wait and see, and it depends largely on how efficient the counters are.

I definitely agree with the terminator meta shift. I think part of the problem will be the TH/SS terminators, since they are just exclusively better than the normal SM terminators. It's units like these that make me think the plasma shift may not be as good as shifting towards more high ap, high number of shots like Scatterlasers, Psycannons, etc. Combined with the fact that plasma will make my own terminators less points/model efficient than PA models I will probably keep using my PA GK's over terminators. I think between the greater efficiency against plasma, and the increase in sheer volume of fire, the PA models will be more effective in the coming meta.

Something that came to my mind when reading the Challenge rules it that it seems to me that units that heavily depend on their character to do most of the killing ([i]e.g.|/i] with a Power Fist or Power Axe) now will have a very hard time against single ICs, as the IC will challenge, proceed to beat the character into the ground, as it usually is faster and the re-rolls won't matter, (or laugh as he hides) and is then virtually impervious to the rest of the unit.

Am I reading it wrong or is there a trivial solution to the problem?

I think this is a definite issue. It effectively allows you to either neutralize or kill the enemy PFist before he gets to do anything. As a GK player that can take things like Halberds or Warding Staves on my basic Justicars, I will be tooling my lists to take advantage of the Challenge system.

Powerfist serg. has usually one wound and two attacks. You might kill him and lose the combat, a waste of characters 4/5 attacks to stop probably 1 S8 attack.

The serg won't challenge, = death. Charachter won't bother challenging. Take the S8 on the chin , kill the rest of the squad.
