Thread: Tyranid Tactica 6th Edition

Good point(s). I guess it's just a little frustrating that a Hive Tyrant or a Zoanthrope is a "weaker" psyker than an upgraded Librarian. I was looking forward to a Broodlord using Invisibility on a large unit of Genestealers.

On a different note, will people be purchasing both psychic powers for your Tervigons now? 15 points for an extra telepathy or biomancy power could be nice.

On another note, what do people think about Broodlord psykers? If you re-roll until you get a power you can use, that could make Broodlords pretty decent at picking powers. They're BS 0, which means they can't use ANY psychic shooting attack.

    That's probably why.

Haven't had chance to look at the rulebook yet but looking over the FAQ, i see no mention of Boneswords. Does this mean we just go off the wording in the codex as ignoring all armour saves?
    Stuff I'm working on:
40k - Pre Badab Astral Claws - Hive Fleet Phobos - *New* Imperial Fists Heresy Era
Fantasy - One nation under Hashut

Yes! (and of course still causing ID)

You don't reroll powers that you can't use. You only reroll ones that you can't use because your Mastery level is too low.

Also, I don't think BS 0 prevents you from using all shooting attacks; attacks that don't require a roll to hit look like they're still useable.

I dont get quite how psyching power selection works it says you can roll for 1 power for each of your mastery level but can you choose to exchange your existing powers for new powers too? Like 2 powers that yrant already has and psycher level 3 does that mean he can have 3? 2 existing and 1 new or?

You exchange as many powers as you have. A Tyrant is mastery level 1, though. Your mastery level defines and is defined by how many powers you can cast, not how many you know.

The Swarmlord has four powers, so when it exchanges it gets four rulebook powers.

A Tervigon has one power, and can buy two more. So if it buys no extra powers, it can exchange Dominion for one rulebook power. If you buy it another Tyranid power, it can exchange both Tyranid powers for two rulebook powers. If you buy it both extra Tyranid powers, it can exchange for three rulebook powers.

Note that you cannot exchange some Tyranid powers for some rulebook powers; it's an all-or-nothing trade.

What do people think about our new Instinctive Behavior - Feed? For something like Hormagaunts, synapse will still have its uses. For a Trygon (already Fearless), it seems like the non-Trygon Prime is actually better in some ways. Fail the test and you get +2 attacks on the charge.
For things like Raveners, it might be worth losing Fearless to get 6 attacks on the charge.

I don't know if I like failing instinctive behavior to be a strict upgrade, but I'm not gonna complain

I have a feeling that a zooming winged hive tyrant with 2 pairs of devourers and some psychic power will be the creature to beat in this edition. Upt to 12 TL light antitank shots, and/or vector strikes, plus some psychic power, all while being hit on 6's? Yes please!

1222. It's a stranglehold. Not an Ogryn neck pinch.
1395. Eldar really hate it when you greet them with "Live long and prosper".
1537. My Rogue Trader does not need to announce his arrival with eight hours of orbital bombardment.
1572. The Navigator has Warp Sight. Not Insane-o-Vision.
1594. Flak armor is not just a muscle shirt with the word "ARMOR" stenciled on it.

Re-reading the codex, it would seem that the Swarmlord's bonesabres however don't ignore saves. This would mean they just hit at whatever AP monstrous creatures hit at?

Swarmlord has smash so his sabres are ap2. I was thinking exchanging 1 of broodlord powers for Shrieks seems like a great way of giving stealers a ranged weapon against anything with heavy armour. Also precision shot on dakka tyrant is very scary.

Also once again you forgot to mention Ripper Swarms and Sky Slasher swarms.

Vector Strikes are kind of gimmicky, imo. You sacrifice a shooting weapon or psychic shooting power to use it, and most of the time your 6 TL Devourers shot would do more damage than the strike. The strike does have AP 3, though, so it's good against armoured infantry.

When you finally do get hit by a 6 you have to take a 3+ save to see if you get shot out of the sky and absorb a S9, no save hit from plummeting to earth. Swooping is not all that safe, but I think it will be a good tool to get to where you want to be in early turns.

Units can't assault on the turn they arrive from reserve?

Only 50% of your army can be in reserve.

My stealer shock list is sad.

Also, does this make Ymgarls somewhat useless now that they can't assault on turn they arrive?

Have you Read the Dormant special rule? They are specifically allowed to assault on the turn they are revealed.

  16. #56
So it does, I forgot they had an overriding Codex rule! Thanks.

Still, regular outflanking or infiltrating 'stealers are significantly worse off. The fact we can't Move, Fleet, Assault now means our threat ranges are even shorter.

Btw did i read the vehicle damage table right that the Heavy venom cannon cant EVER destroy a vehicles unless through glancing hits due to being -1 on the table?

That's right if you think of a direct "wrecked" result. If the vehicle was already immobilized and you score another immobilized result the vehicle will however lose another hull point (totalling to 2 for this hit). So this will wreck most vehicles.

Telekinesis spell 1: Zzap gun, essentially. Autohit, from the looks of it. It implies the 2d6 for strength is effectively the roll to hit. This means broodlords may use it despite lack of ballistics skill?

Telekinesis spell 3: Minor rerolling nerf to enemy squad or vehicle and vehicle takes a haywire hit. Autohit. Auto haywire hit. Probably an auto glance.

Telekinesis primaris spell: S6 hit anywhere you want it within 18 inches, potential for more along that same line. Allows for snipes, hitting flyers, etc?

Looks like the broodlord can use all of these. Three ways of hitting those annoying gnats you call flyers without ever rolling to hit. Add in vector strikes and torrents of devourer shots and they shouldn't be a problem.

    Re: Tyranid Tactica 6th Edition

Spell 1 is a focussed witchfire power, and therefore requires a roll to hit (which the Broodlord can never do).
