WD Sisters update looking a bit better now?

Seems with the extra emphasis on shootyness and template weapons on overwatch being a bit nasty the WD sisters update might actually be playable now!

Any thoughts? Or should i just go back to sticking my fingers in my ears and going "la la la la la" whenever anyone mentions it? ^_^

I think you'll be seeing Sisters taken as allies at the very least with the new edition.

I also think this won't be the only WD list that will exist for 6th - I figure we'll get some other minidexes that can be used alone or as allies (genestealer cults, squats, maybe the return of the Harlequins list)

I'd still go with the fingers. Just like GW gave their finger to Sisters players.

Bad puns aside, I still think it's a sub-par effort that does no favors to SOBs. Yes, they're probably a little better than before, but quite probably so are other armies. We'll see.

Not only that. Rage has changed significantly (just +1 attack when assaulting) and Dominion squads can scout with their dedicated transport.

I think that any boosts Sisters get will be pretty widely shared outside of a few exceptions. Seraphim on the charge for example which others do get, but it's a really nice boost for the points cost combined with their preexisting abilities. Sisters Repentia may be quite mean if they can make it across the table. The Penitent Engine might be worth taking. Bolters and power armour both seem like they might be better this edition. Bolters definitely and power armour it depends on how exactly AP is spread out amongst close combat weapons. I haven't seen numbers on them, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out chain weapons were AP 4. Sisters are far away from being the only army known for using bolters and power armour however.

I'll be picking up at least a unit of Sisters with a Cannoness. A big part of that is I played them in third and still have the newer Exorcist sitting around. The only reason I didn't pick them (and Eldar) back up when returning to the game was it is way cheaper to start an army from two sets of AoBR than to try starting a Sisters force.

Dryaktylus: Rage actually gives +2 Attacks.

Well, yes. I meant +1 to the usual +1.

Sigh. Sisters. An army I would have picked up in an instant at any point, had they had a proper army book and good plastic models. Shame GW has been sidelining them for years.

They seem to get some neat boosts with 6th: rapid fire and overwatch, the 'gunslinger' rule on seraphim, worthwhile changes to several other units.

    Well, maybe someday.

So going along with this, Age of Apostasy wasn't even mentioned anywhere in the rulebook? The sisters were also not mentioned as part of the forces of the imperium (page 139). What gives?

Technically, we are the army of the ministorium, and are not affiliated with the political organization of the imperium in any way.

In fairness, they have a tree chart showing everything that the organization is in charge of and for the ministorium it only has shrine worlds listed

No mention of sisters in the main rulebook?

They're mentioned in the allies rules. The short of it is that sisters of battle are only trusted allies with the imperial guard. Cautious allies (the second level, forgot the exact term) allies with most space marines and desperate allies with the black templars.

Which mostly means that only guard characters can join Sisters' units. The ally level on the marine armies isn't high enough to share characters.

Re: WD Sisters update looking a bit better now?

I personally have found my army vastly improved with the WD 'dex. I've lost one game from 25, and the people I've played against were pretty successful tournament go-ers. I tend to go ultra-melta heavy, sidelining the use of flamers in favour of being able to liquidate any power armour or terminator armour that comes near me. 5 Dominions inside a scouting rhino with a combi melta and two melta guns are a really nice alpha strike, especially with twin linked shots. Moreover, now that kill points are gone I feel less pressure when it comes to losing small squads like that. My main gripe is that a Sisters army struggles to function without Celestine and, to a lesser extent, Jacobus. A Cannoness should conceptually be the first thing any Sisters army should consider taking.

I reckon Sisters aren't a bad army - there are just very few Sisters players, and so finding good Sisters players is a tricky affair. Plastic models, buffing the useless units and some Eccliesiarchy themed units is all we need.

BTW, it is possible to find the Sisters "codex" anywhere legally? 'Cause there isn't in the GW page, and the White Dwarf is a year old...

Sisters do have a large section in the model showcase.

Don't Seraphim already have Gunslinger already, it's just called 'Seraphim Pistols' or something? I'm hoping Gunslinger clarifies what you do with twin hand-flamers though!
Also, while more shootiness will certainly help, every other shooty army is receiving the same bonuses so it's not like they're getting fundamentally better. Plus short-range shooting is even riskier now that enemy combat troops can charge even further than ever before, that and while Overwatch is a bonus, it heavily favours armies that are low Ballistic Skill to start with but with the numbers to get a respectable number of 6's, or armies with access to Divination Psykers. Maybe we'll get an Act of Faith that's comparable, though I suppose we can take Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors through Codex: Grey Knights, to try and get it using the allies rules.

Anyway, the new rules do help, but it's still a very lacklustre codex. Seraphim are going to be fun, and Penitent Engines are now just about worth the points, which is good since I have three

The way they've handled Sisters + Templars is quite odd to me - Black Templars hate witches and similar mutations in much the same way as Sisters, yet they are only desperate allies?
Do you enjoy using WarSeer? Are you on here a lot?
