Mangler question

Hi all ,

I was playing a game few day's ago and a unit of my dwarfs were in combat with a unit orcs.
My opponent moved a mangler squig on the flank and decided to run it through my dwarf unit that was in combat with the orcs.
Can a mangler squig go through a unit from the flank that is in close combat?

I hope you guys (and girls) can help me out.

Yes, because it can move through friends and foes and it is not a shooting attack.

Just an FYI I have even seen O&G players purposely run a mangler through their own unit involved in a combat with another group, sacrifice 20-30 points of orcs or goblins to try and take out something like a stegadon or chaos warriors worth many more points. It is legal and they are dangerous. But they seem to be afraid of small troops of skinks lol. Shoot them or magic them to death before they can do any damage.
