Re: Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster

I was very much on the fence about this, especially since gameplay is at least going to be somewhat similar to Zombicide and less so Super Dungeon Explore, and I really can't keep track of a lot of game systems at once. But having been turned off 40k, I figured this would be a fun way to get some sci-fi gaming in still.

Looking forward to receiving yet another horde of models to assemble and paint, and happy to support companies that have better business sense and respect for customers than GW! I decided to pass on most of the optional characters with this one, couldn't pass up the terrain set though and I may still be tempted to up my pledge in the next couple of weeks (as you still can with CMON ones).

Edit: Yep, a novel will be happening. If it reached $1mil, it was going to be a trilogy, but we fell short of that.

The terrain set is allegedly available later on for 40$, but the characters will be gone once the wrapup has happened. Just to let you know...

I passed the terrain for now.

Re: Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster

Had another look at what I'm getting this morning and it's 362 miniatures and 2 terrain sets (140 pieces) for $615. That's an average of $1.53 (taking out the Terrain cost) per miniature, 6 of which are large suits that have a KS value of $25 each and the figure is also skewed upwards by the 6 THI carapaces that cost $90 (so it's actually $1.31 per mini taking out the THIs). That's a bargain in my book.

I'll probably drop another $100 on the CKPM to double up on some of the promos to sell at a later date with all the additional exclusive stuff it should be possible to entirely recover the money I've spent at a later date.

Yeah the terrain set is very good value at $30 though. Its difficult to judge whether sculpts will be good based just on a sketch though, and they have said that the exclusive characters won't play much of a role in the universe because there will only ever be a few thousand of them. I have enough miniatures that more things like that aren't really a big thing.
I have in hindsight decided I really need to add the Calamity Crew though! I didn't look close enough before to realise they are based on the Firefly crew. I'll probably add Hexen as well, but the others don't really appeal to me.

For me they were very easy to spot, same as the "Galactica" and "Aliens" based models/pics, which as i was saying to a friend yesterday only the actual Alien models have any sort of originality to them for me.
Looks like they have done very very well in thier funding, good luck to them.

The way I'm looking at it I just bought a board game for three times what it usually costs to buy a board game.
I couldn't resist after seeing the Calamity crew, but I'm not sure I'm happy with myself.

Expensive for a board game yes, but good value for quality 28mm models that you can use for other things as well, or for any expansions to Sedition Wars.

Anyone else thinking there may be a way to combine Sedition Wars with Zombicide?

Agreed very expensive for a board game but my interest in the board game is secondary to the miniatures (Don't say that on BGG it's blasphemy there ) plus the plan is to turn it into a Skirmish level war game as well at some point in future a bit like Dust Tactics / Dust Warfare.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll stick to my pledge, because I think I should give the game a try.
I figure that if I'm not happy with it when I actually have it in hand I should be able to make my money back selling it on, thanks to all the extras included in the Kickstarter.

My order is exactly the same.
I want more scenery and the floor tiles, but I can wait until later to order more.

Re: Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster

I'm in for Biohazard, Opticamo and Ramirez. I'm still unimpressed by the biomechanical body horror of the Strain, but considering the number of special character models alone:

    Kara
    Opticamo Kara
    Limited Edition Kara
    Power Armour Kara
    Akosha
    Opticamo Akosha
    Cyborg Akosha
    Iron Lily
    Ramirez
    Morgan
    Opticamo Morgan
    Biohazard Suit Morgan
    Barker
    Opticamo Barker
    Power Lifter Barker
    Keegan Kor

...I was willing to buy in anyway.

Re: Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster

I pledged enough to grab Biohazard, the four character/strain-character packs, the terrain set, and a THI Carapace for Lily. Opticamo is cute, but I really don't see the point - same with the GITD strain. The Calamity crew doesn't interest me. I may add on some other Carapace, baby drones, and head crabs when the CKPM hits, but for now I'm pretty happy with the investment.

I wholeheartedly recommend you watch the first scene of Serenity...then watch all the episodes of Firefly...then go back and finish Serenity. It's a great series.

Yes, I was managing to resist ... right up until the Firefly crew. Just a shame it was only 4 of them

I pledged for this as soon as I encountered it and became a tad obsessed with checking the total every hour or so on my phone for the three weeks afterwards, pledged enough for one of everything but the glow in the dark stuff which looks cheap to be honest.

I would really like to be able to grab some of the extras for my friends but nearly a year is just too long.

The Survey is out. Note the THI price is a typo they are still $15 not the $10 listed. The Gnosis and Aphid (Exo Barker) suits are now $20, they have been reduced in price by $5.

I just filled the survey out and upped my order once again.
So I has anyone here used the Alpha rules to proxy a game yet?
