Thread: are you a loyalist or a xenos?

Re: are you a loyalist or a xenos?

So it seems the marine armies are doing well. And all the xenos armies except the necrons, not so much.

It's totally surprising that the rules seem to favor loyalists and the necrons, considering they were written by the guy who wrote three space marine codexes and the necron codex.

    /sarcasm

Actually Tau got fairly shafted too:

Crisis Suits are now less survivable than they were before (slight nerf to cover save rules has increased vulnerability to S8 ID weaponry, and theres going to be more of that flying around), and for some reason its been helpfully faq'ed that they have acute senses....despite the fact they cant outflank.

Reserve rules have not helped us.

    No psykers (Unless we ally)

Vehicles are much easier to kill - this will be a blessing and a curse, our vehicles are easier to kill, but the best Tau build is anti mech.....unfortunately I think Mech Armies will be thin on the ground soon.

    No anti flyer weapons.

No more scoring in vehicles - so the minimum 6 firewarriors in a devilfish no longer works.

Target Lock has gone,so we cant split fire anymore (and have no one with the splitfire rule) - Space wolves still can though...so thats ok.

Kroot have been nerfed to hell and can no longer assualt in the outflank.

Emp grenades not mentioned in the FAQ or the Rulebook - guess we cant throw them then.

Skimmer saves have gone down from 4+ to 5+ (Although we save points on the DP now, as there is no point in taking it).

    Sniper Drones are not snipers

If our Characters get challenged by most other races sargents they are dead, let alone a rival IC

The plus sides to combat these problems:

Rapid Fire weapons make Fire Warriors better, they can move and fire ...... Unfortunately they still cant take incoming fire (and there will be more of that) and are likely to runaway to a sneeze (Plus they cost to much)

Overwatch - This is good, but Tau arent going to get much Joy from it - 12 Fire Warriors rapid fire 10 assualt marines hitting on sixes, 4 hit, 3 wound, maybe one marine dies - we lose five from there impact hits alone (and thats before there 30 odd attacks).

Power Weapon nerf helps broadsides a bit, but if they get caught in CC there a problem anyway lol

Broadsides can walk and snap fire! ..... Or....You can pay 10 points and they can walk and fire at normal BS.

Best thing I can see is the BS filter ignores nightfight, and you only have to equip 1 model with it.

Dont get me wrong, havent played yet and I am in no way thinking of quitting or stopping playing my Tau. But from what I can see in the rules, and the FAQ (produced by someone who had possibly read the Tau Codex for the first time 5 minutes before he wrote it), things have got even harder for Tau, I am not complaining precisely, but am hard pressed to say the new rules have made me "Happy".

PS. There is one vaguely amusing prospect for Tau on the horizon - Suicide Ethereals! Expect to see a bathrobe wearing embodiment of the greater good running towards the enemy army on his own shouting "Kill Me for the Greater Good" on a battlefield near you soon! (Preferered enemy now counts towards shooting - so the new rules have finally given Ethereals a use, by dying they stand a chance of doing something useful!)

yea, if you ally with chaos daemons, you take epidemius and death guard plague marines, all of a sudden your marines because of epidemius's tally as long as you kill enough enemies you get a 3+ FNP save wounding on 2+ and ignoring armour saves lol and if the marine happens to be on a bike with mark of nurgle he it T6... so IG S3 lasguns can't hurt lol... boltguns need 6's

Me and my friends have had the same feeling too. Nearly everything Space Marine armies have got better. Some things got better in the non Space Marine armies only because they got better in SM armies. I just want to be wrong, but my feelings right now is that 6th edition is gonna be more Marinehammer than ever, and non SM armies will be the the punching bag for the SM players enjoyment. Yes, necrons are good, but they are the last codex, that was some kind of expected. Wait for the first SM codex that makes half the necron army useless.

And ATSKNF is now more cheesy than ever before. It's like being fearless, but with free shooting between Assault rounds.

i had been trying not to say that. i am glad someone else said it - it helps me feel less paranoid.
what is the biggest new thing in these rules? flyers. who has the best flyers? not "master of the skies" eldar, but marines. dream on if you think an invulnerable save is going to help you against the volume of firepower a stormraven can churn out

Imperial Guard. The Vendetta was underpriced before but now it's just criminal.

I concure, however look at it this way... most marine codexs (barring 2) and 5th ed books, once the likes of eldar get brought up to speed im sure there will more farseer/wraithlord/avitar trickery goings on

well yes. but that is a while away yet. but we have to survive in the meantime.
i dont mind losing. i generally think of losing as a learning experience, and i know how to laugh it off when i have lost through crummy dice. which doesnt happen all that often. what i dont like is taking a pounding almost all the time no matter my best efforts because the playing field isnt level

Re: are you a loyalist or a xenos?

I kinda look at it as the present is good/great for the loyalists, eldar and tau are supposed to be soon, and chaos. Thats a fairly dramatic switch, cause right now the loyalist books are better suited but I doubt they'll be as good as the armies designed for this edition.

The new wound allocation is actually fairly simple once people stop trying to complicate it, I think games will speed up.

But how would that help sell more space marines?

The tyranid's treatment has totally destroyed any faith I may have had for future xenos armies. Might get lucky, might have to shelve your army.

Unless your crons or marines just wait for your new dex to hit. Tau are supposedly not far off, Eldar shouldnt be too far off, DE and nids well, well....... hmmm

I choose to be a chaosist?

I disagree. With the changes to Jump units and MC's, Tyranids just got better, not worse.
"From the fires of betrayal, Unto the blood of revenge, We bring the word of Lorgar, The Bearer of the Word, The favored son of Chaos; All praise be given unto him, For those that would not heed, We offer praise to those that do, That they might turn their gaze our way, And gift us with the boon of pain, To turn the galaxy red with blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods." - Excerpt of the 341st book of the Epistles of Lorgar.

Re: are you a loyalist or a xenos?

With the change of structure to the core game, I do not see how a new Ork codex could possibly bring them back to life. The ork codex would have to be written in a way to bypass or change core 6th ed rules to be good again.

Assault armies (excluding blood angels) are dead for many reasons.

Sniping, removing casualties from front, no charge after fleet, no charge from reserve, , overwatch, no being able to disembark if move more then 6, kans in squadrons with only 2 HP, squads having to stop for stunned results, kff cover save up to 5+. My kan wall is shelved, the rest of the army may be as well.
