The secret is grad-school induced poverty. Avoid it at all costs..... Seriously Doi, good luck. What kind of degree are you going for?

I've just finished my BSc with a Zoology major mid-year and am planning on starting a Masters degree (and eventually a Phd) in the same field when the new school year starts in March.

I've also got a very good paying job on weekends, so no student poverty yet Confessor_Atol .

    Comments:

@Emperor Norton - Nice neat painting on the hand gunners, and I love the captain. His hair and face in particular are excellent.

@Colonel kane trine - Another impressive horde of models. Those huge blocks of infantry look really good, and I like the fact they’re each representing different states.

@gogs - Really lovely painting once again, can’t really say more than that. One of my favourite armies of the tale.

@Jackdaw - Fantastic looking knights, the painting of the cold ones is a particular highlight for me. I’ve never had a problem with knights and lances myself, but now you’ve mentioned it your guys look way better, so I may have to revise my opinion.

@Confessor Atol - Simply awesome conversion. Love everything about it. Now get some paint on it!

@DAGabriel - Love them! The colour transition on the helmets and shoulder pads etc. is exquisite.

@azhagmorglum - So glad you’ve finished the Wyvern, been looking forward to seeing it completed for months. It looks superb! Love everything about it. Black Orcs look nice too btw, and at least they’re done now.

@Purple beard - Dwarves on horses are always welcome, now matter how sneakily you try and slip them in. Mighty fine flocking you’ve done there!

@Momus - Nice skink priest, the gold is great as usual and the bone looks nice too. Terradons look good too, but could use a bit more colour to them.

@Great Horned Owl - Lovely work. Lots of warm, earthy tones but with just enough splashes of colour to make them interesting. Bases are great.

@Tekore - Nice eagles. The riders a bit blurry in the pictures, but the birds themselves look very nice. I have a soft spot for the white one I think. Looks a bit like a giant seagull! :P

@Braad - I’ve always loved savage orcs, and these look great. Lovely work on the warpaint, and the totem pole looks great.

@Juicytomatoes - best 16 point model EVER! I just love these little guys so much.

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 10 (June painting and July WIP)

@ Emp Norton- bold, clean, and quality as usual. I really like how your dualist turned out.

@COl Kane Trine- Great, obscure empire models, nice stuff. Great output!

@gogs78- Wow, those are some clean and tight elves. The purple and white look great, and that spear hoard is stunning!

@JackDaw- Man I love the monochromatic evil washed out look your achieveng. Like you mentioned, it's nice to see some chris fitzpatrick minis. I wish he was still with GW sculpting elves....

@confessor Atol- Back to work! commenting doesn't get armies finished

@DAgabriel- cool models, I need to pick up a few of those. I really like how your red is turning out, and the lava is cool. Lava is always cool!

@Azhagmorglum- Those are some clean black orks. the checks are nice, I can't wait to see them weathered a little. The wyvern is tops. Not a thing is missing. Stunning model! I always liked that pot-bellied under-bite dragon.

@Purplebeard- Those are a lot of mounted dwarves. I can safely say that I have never seen a single one of those models in person. To see that many together is actually kind of stunning. Great collection, and fantastic paint! I like you use of different colors

@Momus- Nice little skink! Sorry to hear about job troubles, but keep running at it and something will give.

@Greathorned owl- nicest maiden guard I've ever seen. I really like the shore effect on the bases, and the color choice is great!

@Laborius- Classy paint, as usual. It really is suprising how fiddely ogre models can be. Soooooo many bits and bobs hanging off of em' . You really did a great job on this. Top shelf!

@Tekore- Nice high-born. What eagel model did you use? Solid paint, and nice effort!

@Braaaad- Great savages! I love the big stikka, or what ever its called. The warpaint turned out really nice too. Can't wait to see your avatars of war character.

@Juicy Tomatoes- What's not to like, its a nippon hobbit with a standard! Clean paint an I really like the diamond pattern you picked. cool stuff!

Ha, ha- I see what you mean.

Two of the characters are direct only, i believe. They're not super rare, but you just don't see them enough.

Hey guys, it's a joker from me this month. I'll comment soon, hopefully, but with work, university stuff and little overall spare time I've found no time at all to paint something. Hopefully next month will be better, because I'd really like to finish the army in this tale. Great job everyone for keeping it up!

All right guys - since I only had WIP over the last couple of months I've decided I will finish my chariots tonight - so pictures incoming soon! I am determined to stay in for this one! Lots of applications and other work done lately, so now some time for sheer warhammer production!

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 10 (June painting and July WIP)

Alrighty, time for comments from me.

@ Emperor Norton - very crisp and clean looking. That duellist is one of my favourite GW minis and I think you've done a great job on him.

@ CKT - that's what, the 4th army you've painted now? Crazy. Looking good as always though, nice to see more Empire around.

@ Gogs78 - great to see you back mate, those High Elves are looking very very nice. Kudos for having the patience to add the wood-grain on every shaft. Looks ace, you madman.

@ Confessor Atol - that Slaughtermaster conversion is epic, can't wait to see him painted up.

@ DaGabriel - I'm not a huge fan of the minis themselves, but your painting is great - interesting choice of colours for Chaos Dwarves, but the blending is looking very nice.

@ AzhagMorglum - always like your stuff fella, there's a real nice crispness and pop to it, very different to my own style. That Wyvern is lovely.

@ Purplebeard - your gnomes always make me chuckle, nice work as always.

@ Momus - nice work again, can't remember the last time I saw someone painting Lizardmen.

@ Great Horned Owl - lovely work on the Maiden Guard, the bases in particular look great.

@ Laborious - that is a big 'ole chunk of plastic and you've done it proud. The verdigris is nicely done, not too overpowering at all.

@ Tekore - very nice birds, any chance of a few more shots of the rider?

@ Braad - nice looking S.Orcs. The sculpts themselves are still a little too cartoony for my tastes but I love the touches of warpaint here and there.

@ Juiceytomatoes - 16pts well spent The shading on the white tabard between the legs is very well done - there's an almost comic style cell-shading look to your painting, very simple but very effective

And replies to everyones comments so far:

@ DAGabriel - thanks fella, its the pics that are getting better - these were taken during the day as opposed to my normal 11.30pm at night

@ Laborious - cheers bud I don't know what puts me off about lances, they just seem a little too long and spindly (I know sculpting etc limits what can be done) and I can't mentally justify how they get the strength bonuses first round, then drop the lances, then pick them up again for the next charge... Big-ass cavalry sabres and maces makes much more sense to me. Looks cooler too.

@ Confessor Atol - I now claim 'monochromatic evil washed out' to describe my painting along with 'bleak' and 'cold'. Thank you

@ CKT - everyone loves a good slave girl Cheers for the kinds words as well, really seems like removing the lances was the right choice.

WiP-wise, I'm currently working on the last 4 Knights, there's a few progress pics in my plog. Hopefully though, the main thrust of this months painting will be this chap:

This would be my Dreadlord/Highborne - Velrys Arkitaine, First Sword of the House of Chains. He's currently undercoated so fingers crossed there's plenty of time to get him done by the end of the month.

    Cheers everyone

Re: The Tale of Fantasy Painters 2011-2012: Month 10 (June painting and July WIP)

    UNIT: CHARIOTS!!

    POINTS THIS MONTH: 340pts

    TOTAL in the TALE: 1530+340=1870

BUILD/CONVERSION: different heads etc on 'elite charioteers'.

HIGHS: I finally finished all my chariots and can now field an army fully based on chariots as main troops (tried this against skaven once and won't be trying it again)

LOWS: I wont use all of them at once, unless I can manage to get the army to such as size that allows me to field them against my own HE's and a player willing to play either. Chariots are a *$@*$ to transport...

NEXT MONTH: cavalry + WIP on first Tomb Guard, finishing the final normal skellies.

Hey guys, so here's this month's update: 50x6 + 40 (command) =340 points... the large unit (could be separated into two units of four chariots) had two chariots, one with a banner. The other one is unit with full command, based on the heads of the Tomb Guard. These are the King's (or prince's) personal bodyguard.

    Comments!

Emperor Norton Great work on the empire, the captain looks detailed and you have picked out his face ver well.

CKT Those yellow and blue empire troops look fantastic! and the ogre greatsword is a great idea.

Gogs78 Some superb painting Gogs, really deadicated work. Purple trim still looking good.

Jackdaw Although the colour scheme is limited, it really works! Love the bit swaps.

Confessor Atol Fantastic Slaughtermaster conversion, i would love to use that idea for a skink priest. Cant wait to see it painted.

DaGabriel Great colour scheme on the chaos dwarves, much more interesting that the standard schemes. Drooling at the thought of you painting the big toys.

AzhagMorglum Nice wyvern, it looks like its straight out of a citadel painting guide!

Purplebeard Really characterful units you have there and the basing is right up my street.

Great Horned Owl Good work on the Maiden Guard and great bases.

Laborious Now that is a ironblaster! Excellent work.

Tekore Very cool eagles, im trying to think of something similar for a chief on terradon conversion idea i have. Where did you get that eagle from?

Braad Great orc those savages are cool minis, i really like the stone effect you have done. Really pops.

Juiceytomatoes Great work on the little fella, is this all by free hand? If so you must the patience of a saint.

Grhino Great work on the chariots, thats alot of them! Ive seen a few TK armies that use giant units of chariots to good effect.
