    1500pts of Lizardmen

    Hello fellow Warseerites!

Welcome to my new painting log! Here I will record the progress of a 1500 points Lizardmen army that will be used in a 4-player, tree-based and story-driven campaign that I've written up. This campaign will be called 'Battle for the Misted Isles' and it will be between my Lizardmen, a Warriors of Chaos army a Ogre Kingdoms Tribe and a Brettonian army. It will be fairly short, only 10 battles, 6 for each player (that means 2x 4-player battles!). The army sizes will start at 500 points and gradually raise up to 1500 points. Once all of the participants have painted up a 500 points force the campaign will get rolling and at that time I will post up a thread in the battle reports section and leave a link in here for all you battle reports and fluff lowing fellows out there.

But, in here I will not really go into fluff as this is not the thread for that. Here I will post up the minis and hopefully receive some constructive feedback as this will be the first army were I will set out with the goal to really paint every model to the very best of my ability (I'm rusty though as I haven't even touched a brush in over a year!)

As units gets finished they will be covered in a nice color below and their names will also be a link to the post where the unit is shown.

I've started training with my lizardmen now, so that I won't be a complete dunce with them once the campaign rolls around. You can follow my progress here in the Lizardmen Training Battles thread.

The finished 1500 points list will look like this:

    Heroes - 218pts (14,5%)
    Teheq (Skink Priest) - 100pts
    Level 2

    Huenehem (Skink Chief) - 118pts
Battle standard bearer, blowpipe, shield of the mirrored pool

    Core - 490pts (32,7%)
    20x Saurus Warriors - 238pts
    Standard bearer, musician

    12x Skink Skirmishers - 84pts

    12x Skink Skirmishers - 84pts

    12x Skink Skirmishers - 84pts

    Special - 516pts (34,4%)
    10x Temple Guards - 196pts
Standard bearer, musician, banner of swiftness

    8x Cold One Cavalry - 320pts
Standard bearer, musician, banner of eternal flame

    Rare - 275pts (18,3%)
    Ancient Stegadon - 275pts

    Total: 1499 pts

There is no need to leave feedback on the list, I know it's far from optimized, but I'm just not a list-optimizing kinda guy

And finally, of course a picture, not much to show, just the beautiful package that I picked up yesterday, there is few things more lovely then picking up new Warhammer models!

The army as it stands right now:

    Re: 1500 pts of Lizardmen

I finally got my first model completed, I'm quite pleased with it considering I haven't painted a model in a couple years. It's also the first time ever that I've used highlights, C&C is very welcome.

Here he is, my Skink Priest Teheq:

    Hope you like him

    Thanks

The texture paint is grainy so it kinda looks like you've flocked the base with sand without actually having to do it, saves a lot of time and work. When it dries it looks good and is easy to paint on for highlights and so on. I tried to take a better pic down on the base but I haven't been able to get a good shot at it yet.

Nice paint job there, it definitely doesn't look like you've been out of practice with that brush! Can't wait to see some more lizzies =)

Great start to your army! Is that texture paint easy to apply? I too am looking for an easy way to speed up my basing process... but I am afraid that the texture paints are an expensive solution: don't you have to use loads of it to cover your base?

@Il Maestro: Thank you man, I'm really glad to hear so!

My next project is the ancient stegadon. I was planning on keeping it for last, but I want to get it glued together for proper storage, and I'll need to paint it up in sections before gluing it all together so here I go .

@Matrim_Cauthon: Thank you! Actually the texture paint was really easy to apply and covered the base really well. I find it far easier then any other basing method I've used before, what used to take me hours now take me minutes.

Man, I really am a slow painter, oh well in my defense I don't have a lot of free time available for painting. I'm going to try though from now on to allocate two hours each day, one in the morning and one in the evening solely for painting!

Here comes my second finished lizardmen model, hope you like him! Only 39 more to go until I can start the planned campaign.

Glad to see you haven't given up!

Nice work on the skink there, I really like the little corner of water you did on the base - are you going to make that an army wide theme or just for the skinks?

    Re: 1500 pts of Lizardmen

    Thank you!

It will be a army wide theme, but it will show more on the skinks though.

The good thing about posting zoomed in pictures like this is that you notice the mistakes and can go back and fix them. On the priest I've fixed the light spot on the left hand and on this skink Iäve fixed the bronze overflowing on the weapon and the missed mold line on the edge of the blowpipe. I'm to lazy to post new pictures right now though.

    Re: 1500 pts of Lizardmen

Even though I was't planning on posting any fluff in this thread I think I'm going to post a little teaser of the campaign to come - the first of the introductory chapters, hope you like!

    The Fall of Tlaxl

Heavy fogs now cover the Misted Isles. Thick, not with water, but with poison it enshrouds these barren lands. Torn, broken and dead, centuries of warfare have turned these once lush and thriving islands into a land of death. When the world was first shaped by the old ones, these islands were under the careful watch of the Lustrians, filled with plants and a plethora of animals. Here was constructed one of the many nexuses that would uphold the geomantic web, necessary for the old ones to complete their great plan. It was given the name Tlaxl, and even though it was never one of the great temple cities this site still held power of importance and was kept under vigil watch. Then came the great cataclysm, as the portals to the realm of chaos imploded and the sickness of insanity spread throughout the world.

The isles fell into darkness as raw chaotic energy devoured everything upon them. The Lustrians fought fiercely to protect their temple, but to no avail. As the walls crumbled and legions of daemons swarmed through the gaping holes a mighty host of ten thousand saurus surged forward to meet them head on. Though outnumbered twentyfold the saurus held off the daemons for two days before they succumbed to the war of attrition. As the living wall of saurus perished the remaining skink cohorts rallied to defend their place of power but they soon fell before the hand of chaos. At the very steps of the temple stood the final battle, a thousand daemonettes formed the vanguard against the last line of defence. A hundred and fifty temple guards marched out as the sun rose on the third day of battle and they formed outside the massive doors, ready to die for their gods. With a blood-curling screech the daemonettes fell upon the defenders like a tidal wave, but the guardians stood their ground and came nightfall only a single survivor remained. Athax, the sentinel of the blessed.

Surrounded he stood, with scales covered in blood of friend and foe alike, his blade darkened with rotted flesh. He took his place behind the bodies of his fallen brethren, prepared to guard the doors to the bitter end. Strewn before the temple doors lay the bodies of eight hundred daemonettes, yet more formed up to take their place and their numbers seemed unending. They hurled themselves at him again but he seemed untouchable, covered in a divine light and his eyes bursting with holy power. More then three scores of the foul beasts fell to his mighty blade before the daemons fell back again. Then the lines of the daemonettes split open and forth stepped a keeper of secrets. The massive daemon charged against the remaining stout guardian and locked in battle they fought for a full day, each dealing several blows and drawing blood from their adversary. By nights fall, with his body covered by more cuts then could be counted and his vision growing dim by the loss of blood, Athax launched his final strike to end the monstrosity he faced. The blow found its way into the keepers body and split the beast in two. But, the battle was over for Athax, a single swift motion of the keeper, even as it was torn apart, had pierced Athax heart and so fell the last guardian of Tlaxl.

The doors to the temple burst open and the foul beasts of chaos ran rampant through its golden halls. The portents of sacred power was defiled and the very foundation of the temple was destroyed as its massive walls collapsed in on it. Cackling horrors, roaring bloodletters and screeching daemonettes now roamed freely where once even the most divine of the slann meditated. When the daemons finally left the isles nothing but smouldering ruins remained of the once proud Tlaxl.

Besieged on all fronts the Lustrians did not have the strength to reclaim the isles from the destruction of chaos, though a sacred place and with great importance to the old ones the isles fell from memory of even the oldest of the slann. With the nexus destroyed the strong magic that had kept the isles thriving began to diminish, leaving a scarred and barren land that would remain so for centuries.

Really nice story there, I find that these background pieces add a lot of character to a project log/army, and yours definitely fits the bill! I was really hoping for a while there that Athax was going to pull through - I guess I should have looked at the title a bit more closely huh

Keep up the good work mate!
