Allright dudes, one more thread here. Those of us still in the tale are going strong. I expect some comebacks before it ends . Otherwise, next month, we'll start recruiting for the next tale, right?

Welcome to the Tale of Board Game Painters

What's it all about?
A lot of us wargamers have bought or been given some really impressive board games through the years that have had one extra special selling point; cool miniature game pieces. Mine (and my brother's) include Hero Quest, Space Crusade, Blood Bowl, Space Hulk (both editions) and most recently Chaos in the Old World.

When we opened the boxes we all dreamed of how awesome it would look (in just a few weeks, right?) when we'd have painted every single miniature to the best of our abilities. Awesome atmospheric board pieces with super realistic miniatures all over. Then a few weeks go by, sometimes a few months and for way too many of us a few years. The games are still awesome but all that paint seems to have taken the wrong turn at Albuquerque.

Enter the Tale of Board Game Painters. Now we're going to use the collective power of motivation to really get it done! Participants choose a miniature board game from their collection - one's enough for most of us; after all, they've been unpainted this long already, let's not get carried away - and paint it up in 5 to 10 batches over a period of 6 to 12 months.

At the end of each month (or the beginning of the next actually) we take photos of the month's good work, post it on that month's show off thread and give comments and encourage our fellow painters to keep on truckin'!!

Let me know right away if you've finished a full game and I haven't added it here or if the number of minis is wrong. I'm easily confused by all this

In this thread we start by posting last month's painting, our batches of finished miniatures. Include info on what the miniatures are and what portion of the whole game we feel we've finished. Then we comment on each others good work and begin posting WIPs of our next batch.

Right then, Dreadfleet time! Made a bit of progress on catching up, Im still fairly confident of making the end of tale deadline. First up, sea monsters:

Im now left with 3 ships, 5 auxiliaries and the ruler/playing equipment to paint. Its nearly there

Hahaha! Good news is I'm painting again after three months of not touching a brush. SDE is right there at the top of my priority list, after I warm up my painting muscles with a little O&G.

So after that thinly vailed insult I've been sitting with tears in my eyes, frantically painting, pushing my brushes to their limit, thinking to myself "HereBeDragons! I MUST DESTROY YOU!!".
OK, so none of that happened. Except the Kobolds, they're painted!

So I now have a full set of Kobolds.

Thats half of the Kobolds from the game, bit all the Kobolds I'll need except for the Supersize game, where I need both sets.

Next up, ALL THE DRAGONS! Also some character models, to mix it up.

I would like to see more people post in this tale! Yes?

Sorry for the huge delay in getting some of my minis up this month guys. I aggrivated my back injury so have been essentially bedbound and heavly medicated for the last two weeks.
But I do have some stuff to post. just not able to sit upright right now much less assemble a proper photo boof for good shots.

Everybody else's stuff looks good though. I love the redish skin tones on the Kobolds, SOlun. Really makes 'em pop.

EmperorNorton, the nice clean shields are so crisp and stellar. Excellent painting.

And HerebeDraogns I really like the faded brown stone look on the islands especially how it contrasts whith the grayer stone of the towers and stuff. Looks good. I would suggest you try doing a light wash across the lower edge with an ink or something, if you feel up to it, and give them a "high tide water level" markings just to hammer home how good they look, or not, as you prefer.

Don't worry about not posting this month robscott5598. You've certainly been delivering so far

I have already finished a few SDE denizens but since I didn't take any WIP photos I'll not post them here until next month's thread.

Next month will be the last WIP month, and September's thread will only be for final finished shots and hopefully a few full game shots and stuff like that.
Like all tales of painters this one has thinned out towards the end but I feel it was successful enough to put up a new signup thread next month for a ToBGP 2012-2013. Yes?
I hope those of you who have more board games or didn't complete your projects here will continue on to the next year's tale.

I am certain that this tale is to thank for me getting as far with SDE as I have already, and finishing CitOW, one ruinous power per month.
With both projects I felt at the start that it would be easy and I'd finish one CitOW power per week and SDE in a couple of months. Then stuff comes up and focus fades and this tale really forced me back to my tempo each month with CitOW and I got back into painting SDE at the beginning of this month because it felt kinda weak to be organizing this and being totally flaked out myself. A reminder from our peers here can hold a lot of weight in that situation. This stuff really helps!

So thanks for that, and everybody better get organized for the last month of painting so we can all come out of this proud of what we accomplished, regardless of whether we finished exactly our original goals or not.
