Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

PLEASE DON'T COMMENT ON PEOPLES WORK UNTIL THE 9TH!

That gives everyone chance to get there figures in and stops the thread getting clogged up.

    WHATS IT ALL ABOUT THEN?

Well, quite simply, you paint one figure a month for the next six months. Post a picture up at the end of each month and a group shot at the very end. Yes, its that simple. 6 models – without doubt the easiest tale of painters on the interwebs!

Jokers are there as a life line, a back up should things go horribly wrong so don't feel bad about playing one. If for what ever reason you need a break, just post in that months thread that your playing a joker and feel free to find a suitibly appropriate joker picture as is tradition. If for whatever reason you can't post, don't panic – I'll assume you want to play a joker and probably PM you to make sure everythings okay

Threads will open up on the first of each month, and you'll have seven days to post finished pictures after which please take the time to comment on as many peoples work as you can. The 'tale of's are all about helping each other and support. The more you comment, the more comments you'll get back!

A WORD ON PHOTOS – IMPORTANT!
    640x480 please! Or use thumbnails.
If you really really want to show off a bigger picture, then put a link to it – it means those using slower connections aren't waiting for big pictures to load.
You can use things like photobucket and tinypic to upload pictures. If you have any difficulties feel free to PM me and I'll guide you through it.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I still join in?
A: YES! PM me or post in this thread and I'll add you to the list

Q : How much do I have to paint?
A : There is a minimum of one mini per month. If you paint more then that's great but for TOSP, its all about the quality over the quantity so put a bit of extra time into each piece and don't be afraid of asking for advice. Don't worry if you aren't the next Mike McVey - paint to the best of your ability, learn, and do the next one better!

Q : Can I include fluff in my months post?
A : Yes, go for it, but try not to make it too long - much like the pictures, its hard to scroll through lots of text on a slower internet connection. Feel free to link to it though if you have a plog on warseer.

Q : I have a question which isn't covered here/You did something wrong/Why aren't you as good at this as Gabriel?
A : Bah there's always one isn't there! Shoot me a PM If theres anything your struggling with, want to chat about, or if I've done something wrong then PM me because thats what I'm here for. I'm a rather chatty bloke and I'm more then happy to help people out where I can and when I can't, I can usually point you in the right direction.

    Q : Can I drop out?
A : No you can't, why should you?

Q : Didn't another guy run this last year?
A: Yep, the mighty DAGabriel, scourge of guildkind. Unfortunately he's a little swamped with work at the moment so I'm keeping his seat warm until things settle. I've also dubbed this season 2, as we might have a second tale this year (with DA hopefully back in the hot seat)

Sorry for the lateness - work and a few other life things have gotten in the way recently
As such, I'll be playing my first joker. Which I'm extremely unhappy about.

Okay then, another Malifaux crew done:

There are plenty more pictures in my log if anybody's interested.

Yes, I said I was going to paint some Warmachine instead, but then I got Candy and Baby Kade at a very low price and I could not resist painting them right away. And then I somehow felt obligated to paint the rest of their crew.
So my predictions of what I will be painting next are not particularly reliable, but at the moment it looks like more Malifaux, i. e. Seamus and his crew.

    THIS MONTH:
One Halfling Cook from Warploque Miniatures for the upcomming Arcworlde Game.

    HIGHS AND LOWS:
Highs: Receiving my Halfling pre order this month and getting this great sculpt painted.
Lows: Just one model fully done due to time constraints.

    NEXT MONTH:
I have a few models nearly done so I will have a lot more next month.

EDIT: ImageShack still had the picture but I had to reload it.

Blech, it's been one thing after another this month. Right at the end there I was thinking I might get to sit down and finish up the three models I was working on, but no dice

I'll try to post WIP shots of the 2 quar and the fubarnii knight that I started soonish, though, and they'll make it onto next month's goal.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

    THIS MONTH
Been working my way through the big lot of Bushido from Salute, so this month we have a Wraith and some Temple Dogs
(i have got some of the more boring bits done too out of the way, but i dont think 3 rat swarm bases and some monkeys are worth posting !!)

    HIGHS AND LOWS
A bit of a double here, had a bit of a painting lull and couldnt really get motivated much, which sort of forced me to try some source lighting on these which i think has worked out ok, not based these up yet as i try to do all the basing on a particular faction at once so they are similair

    NEXT MONTH
More Bushido !!! (and probably the month after, and the month after....!)

    THIS MONTH
Finished off the Cawdor clan.. plus 2 Krazy Koalas..

    HIGHS AND LOWS
Highs are that I got them finished.. really happy with that fact.. and the 2 Koalas being finished finally is also a good thing..
Lows is that I didn't get any other skirmish models finished.. really need to get that moran finished.. maybe this month?

    NEXT MONTH
No idea.. let's just see.. am focusing too much on my fantasy Daemon army.. and more of those guardsmen coming up at the end of the month also.. hopefully I will get the Moran finished though. It would be good if I could get him finished..

    THIS MONTH
    More random fantasy skirmish figs

    HIGHS AND LOWS
I'm very happy with how the terrortoise turned out....
Not a great month for me, my inspiration appears to be slowly dying.

    NEXT MONTH
More random fantasy stuff, probably more undead as I am working on them for a co-op mordheim vampire hunting campaign.

A combination of bad luck with the local post-office (my recent hobby orders have been either stolen or lost, and the last one included new paints I wanted to use for this month minis), too much work and little motivation means I have to use my joker this month

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

    THIS MONTH
Well this month has been fairly sucessful - finishing both the Gatormen and an Ogre Kingdoms commission on schedule, painting a number of other small projects and seeing in the release of 6th Edition with my Dark Eldar. So far, undefeated!

    HIGHS
I had vowed to get the entire Gatormen force finished in four weeks, and I managed it with time to spare, which I am very happy about. I'm also pleased to have finished off those two models for Inq28, they were sitting on my desk for a long time! I've spent the past couple of days making a large number of conversions for Inq28 which I can concentrate on this month.

    LOWS
Getting absolutely nothing even built for Infinity was a low point, especially since that game was the reason I joined this tale. I'm also not entirely satisfied with the paint job on Han's face, though I don't know why I'm complaining. The photo quality is not helpful!

    NEXT MONTH
I've gone a bit nuts buying characters for Inq28 (ever since discovering a major community at the AmmoBunker) so I'm working on finishing off Draegerman's retinue and maybe starting on Inquisitor Ramael's warband, as well as more adversaries and daemons for them to face. I'm also vowing to finish the air force for my Prussians in Dystopian Wars, paint a small fleet for a friend (FSA), and at least put together some more Nomads for Infinity.

    Onwards with the pictures!

First up is Bloody Barnabas, the last of my Warlocks for the Gatormen.

I'm happy with his bloody snout.

The skin-cloak was a gamble, but I think it paid off.

Next up are two dudes from last month, but with better quality photos as last month they were a bit blurred

The Swamp Horror was both a joy and a real pain to paint - satisfying to finish, to say the least!

Next up are some dead Gatormen – with Maelok the Dreadbound as my favourite Warlock, he has funky abilities that can raise the dead. To add some variety, I thus decided to have his Posse modelled as undead, with the candles on their heads and glowing eyes matching the Warlock.

The Croak Hunter and Ironback Spitter add some firepower to the Gatormen horde, as well as some colour.

Lastly we have Wrong-eye and his buddy Snapjaw. I went for a yellow eye rather than the usual glowing blue to make him stand out as an outsider to the main force.

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

Now for something completely different... two henchmen for Inq28. First up is a gunslinger some of you may recognise. The model is from Knight Models, and was a real pleasure to paint.

    Hannibal “Hans” Elgyn
A renowned gunslinger and rogue on his homeworld and beyond, Hans has run with Inquisitor Draegerman for a number of years across the stars of the Lazarus Sector, bringing his lightning-fast reflexes and itchy trigger-finger to every possible (and possibly avoidable) gunfight they have found themselves in. Cocksure to the point of arrogance, Hans can back up his casual disregard for other duellists and hired guns with a history of successful shootouts and a mountain of defeated foes. He claims no loyalty Draegerman but only to the "man with the most money", and though the Inquisitor has ever been generous with his credits, Hans must surely know that he will never leave his service alive. Peaceful retirement or change of career is not an option for one who serves the Inquisition.

Next is a henchmen I’ve had an idea in my head for many years. The model is one of the Metros from Infinity, and again a joy to paint. Infinity is very fiddly though, with it’s proper scale!

    Clemens Lazarro

Clemens was a denizen of the outhabs of Akeris Capitalis before the Inquisitor found him, a degenerate narco-freak burnt out and living off what scraps he could steal or beg for. A man without any form of official record or history, in Clemens the Inquisitor saw an opportunity to recruit an agent who knew the treacherous climes of the Undercity, who knew the names and faces of every gang leader, every drug-pusher and every other addict on the streets, someone who could work undercover as a scout, a spy and an infil-traitor. Using his prodigious resources Draegerman got Clemens off the drugs and promised him a life of purpose should he help him in his investigations, an offer he readily accepted.

    ...and that’s all for now!

I guess it's JOKER month for me too. June has been crazy at work, and I've been working on scenery too. I thought I would have time to do at least a mini, but it will be for next month. I'm still working on Infinity miniatures, but stuff from post-apocalyptic game EDEN might show up in the next few monts.
Keep up the good work everyone, lots of great stuff this month!

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

    Sorry I'm a little late...

    THIS MONTH
I've been painting up a group of Fubarni Enuk knights from the order of the Knights of Naralon, a large forested region in the west of Anyaral.

    HIGHS
I've been thinking about painting these guys up for over a year so was great to finally get started.

    LOWS
Unfortunately after a great start I just wasn't able to finish them off as life is a bit hectic right now...well very hectic. So...

Once I realised I wasn't going to get them finished in time I should have just finished one, oh well.

    NEXT MONTH
Finally finish these guys and then its a Bushido Dragon, which I had initially hoped to paint this month.

im going for a cold icy look to them, may add some splinter camo in white or pale gray

    now some comments !

@EmperorNorton - another lovely Malifaux crew, im really impressed at how quick you can turn out models with real good quality paintjobs on them, must say i prefer your Rasputina crew though

@LitleJoe - looks like an angry Mrs Christmas !!

@Grisnik - really like that Cawdor gang, makes me want to get playing NEcromunda again !

@Maxxev - love the idea for Necron heads on the cultists, have to say your littel conversions really bring the most out of your miniatures !

@TheJudge - another load of minis done ! really like the swamp horror, whats the green thing, is it some sort of frog ? nice job on the Han figure, possibly my only critique on the Infinity guy is his gun looks HUGE !

@Harry - Yarr more pirates - love these minis, out of interest have you seen the Indiegogo Goblin Pirate Funder ?

@HairyNorseman - how would those mounts scale up with other minis ? lovely paintjob on them, a friend of mine was looking for alternate rough riders - may show these to him...

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

Wow, there is a fair few Jokers for last month, perhaps the third month is the wall, lol.

@EmperorNorton - A good band of minis, I find the two young children on the left particularly creepy.

@Little Joe - I like her, the flowers are a nice touch. She looks like she's standing on a veranda challenging anyone who gets to close to her gaff. Reminds me of Red Dwarf..."now lets get out there and **** it!"

@Bubbatron - Creepy minis are getting love this month. I really like the creepy glow on the Wrath.

@Grisnik - Yay for Necromunda minis! Nice to see a couple more of those funky koalas.

@Maxxev - Cool collection on minis. I like the proportions of the Dwarf mini. Nice kit bashing and use of the Necron skulls. Really cool paint job on the terrorturtle

@The Judge - Wow you have been productive! I do like the 2nd gator, he looks like he's dancing drunk, lol. Lazarro is a nice little vignette/diorama, a good sense of story there.

@Harry - Another great mini and a great paint job, you certainly do pick'em.

@Bubbatron - Those flyers do look a little err phallic, I think the corkscrew bit just adds to the effect, lol. The enuk are about 32mm from bottom of base to top of head (about the top of a SM shoulder pad), the knights are cast to the enuk but you can get them without riders and there are a few varieties, check them out on the Hasslefree Twilight page.
