Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

@Emperor Norton: Very nice crew again, the skin on Baby Kade and Candy is so smooth and their eyes tell a story of murder. The colour of the mature Nephilim is a great choice, dark and menacing. Lilith looks outstanding as well with the dark colours and bright hair. The Nephilim Brood add some mass and the bases are very nice again. Renedra graveyard set?

@Bubbatron: Nice models with an extremely dark paint job. It works very well with the … “wiry thingy” (Wraith), a leap in modelling. Those Temple Dogs have some nice texture painted onto them.

@Grisnik: Those Krazy Koalas look cute, bet they aren’t. Nice clansmen, it is always good to finish a project, one of the benefits of skirmish painting.

@Maxxev: Where is that skeleton from? Good painting and some very nice cultists, the red gives them a bit of a nasty touch. You can never go wrong with a dwarf, nice repose, and I somehow quite like the pose on that turtle warrior. Nicely painted as well, I like the usage of the spots all over to blend the red and yellow.

@The Judge: Again so many at this high quality, do you sleep? A great and varied choice of models outstandingly painted, surely a range for some very special ones, like the Swamp Horror and the Ironback Spitter. “Hans” is great, to bad he is solo, unlike Clemens. A very nice scenic touch there with the Hasslefree girl.

@Harry: Aaarrr! Some nice stripes on the pants and with the rust effect. A lovely model for a nice collection. Black Scorpion does some nice fantasy pirates as well, you haven’t got an piraty orc/goblin yet.

@: Hairy Norsemen: Already looking good, a nice range to be sure.

Updates later on this week on some WIPs, first some answers:

@Bubbatron: My thoughts exactly when applying the paint so I enhanced the effect a bit.

@Hairy Norseman: That is the general idea, she is on the veranda to punish the gits in her garden.

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

I'll come back and do comments for everyone when I get a moment.

    THIS MONTH
Well I'm glad I finished stuff at the start of June as otherwise I'd have been a joker as well.

    HIGHS
Finished all the deadlines I had to and won a prize for best retinue with my INq28 warband at the Inqvitational.

    LOWS
Getting nothing else finished in the month. I'm still finishing the warjacks I started.

    NEXT MONTH
Well firstly finishing at least the Rover and Mule in the next week or so. I've now started on the first figures for the Breast Cancer Brawl Pink Everblight armies I'm doing. I've also got a week off before the end of the month and the plan for the week is to paint and watch dvds. So I'm hoping that means I can get back on track. Been building for Inq28 again, but started on my Rogue Trader and got scenery to finish for my store. May have to start converting things as I'm now running an Inq28 event on August 18th and then I've got my 16 player Hordes event on 29th July which is when the scenery needs doing by.

Pictures of last month's finished collection.

From left: Harlequin for Freebooter's Fate, Kayazy Eliminator 1 for Warmachine Khador, Vacetti for my Inq28 warband, Eliminator 2.

@EM.. saw and commented on your main log. Great work once more!

@Little Joe.. nice work on the model!

@Bubbatron.. nice work on the OSL there for the dogs eyes.

@Mexxev.. very dark, but the mood is well felt throughout the group..

@Judge.. congrats on getting the whole force done in less time than originally thought! And also how they came out doesn't look like you had to rush with them either!

@Harry.. nice pirate.. love the skin and face on it..

@Hairy.. good start on the unit though.. even if they are not finished they are coming along nicely..

@Keravin.. I like the big guy with the inquistor book.. nice work there..

    Replies back..
@Bubbatron.. thanks.. am liking them too, and have more coming this month to paint up!

@Hairy.. thanks.. am happy to finally finish the damn koalas.. been sitting there forever!

@Little Joe.. indeed.. am more used to army sized projects, so this is a nice change of pace.

As far as WIP for this month.. am working more on my DoC instead of Skirmish, so might be pulling a joker because of that.. not sure yet.. there might still be time to pull something out still.. who knows.

@Keravin: Deadlines help, it sure works for me. Love the variation, the Vacetti looks looks nice. A bit like Clovis I: "It is of your own free will, Christianity or the sword, you may choose".

Here a WIP while I try to find out how to make the base really splash, it still needs a wee bit of work but is mostly done:

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

    Comments (way behind)!

@EmperorNorton: Lovely looking Malifaux crew, Baby Kade is a creepy little model. I won't hold my breath for Seamus & Crew, but I do think it would be cool to see your take on them (having seen a few other people paint him up during the last ToSP season, I've become fond of that figure).

@LittleJoe: The basing on your hobbit is excellent and definitely helps drive home the "Get off my property!" glare on her face. I like most of what I've seen from Warploque, and can't wait to see the rest of your hobbits. That WIP boglin is an awesome character piece!

@Bubbatron: I think the source lighting worked pretty well, although it may help enhance the effect to highlight up to an even lighter color, almost white, on the very edges of some of the more pronounced parts of the model. Of course, I have never attempted OSL so that's just my guestimate, not sure if that's the correct way to go about it or not.

@Grisnik: Cawdor gang looks good, I like the vibrant blue on their tunics. The koalas are goofy figures, I like the "caution!" color scheme you gave them.

@Keravin: All of your figures look nice, although it's tough to see some of the detail since they're shot at a downward angle. Vacetti is a nice conversion and looks great for Inq28, though!

@Maxxev: You painted 8 figures - I'd say you're doing just fine! A lot of us are only posting 1 or 2 a month (or in my case this month, none). Who makes that tortoise figure? I like him quite a bit, and he reminds me a lot of some of Darksword's "visions in fantasy" line but I didn't see him in their catalog.

@The Judge: The gatormen look great, just like last month. The photo of Han came out a tad washed out and blurry, but even so it looks like he's quite well painted (highlights on the vest in particular) - good job!

@Harry: Your fantasy pirate crew is looking excellent so far, I look forward to seeing them develop.

@Hairy Norseman: Bummer that you didn't quite finish them, but the fubarnii knights look good so far and I like your departure from the more standard beige skin tones. Green looks good on the little guys, plus it sets them apart from their enuks.

The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

You wont see him any catalogue as I converted him . The origin of the mini is an Avatars of War plastic dwarf beserker. The rest of them don't look quite as cute (which was never the intention).

@EmperorNorton: Verny nice paint jobs going on here, makes me want to paint my gremlins... but I wont as I have too much else to do lol. I like the use of the gravestones to decorate the bases.

@LittleJoe: Really nice little character piece with a paint job to match .

@Bubbatron: I love that spirit thing and your paint work brings out the creepiness in it excellently .

@Grisnik: Superb paint jobs all around, and loving the half anf half on the cawdor!!

@The Judge: More superbly painted beasts from you as well as a couple of cool sci-fi ones. I personally don't like the ironback figure but you've done a really good job on him, almost makes me want to buy him... almost lol.

@Harry: Keep adding to this crew, it has tones of character, can't wait to see the final crew(s?)

@Hairy Norseman: Keep going, I really like the Twilight stuff though the new ranger types are what has taken my fancy, can't wait to see them finished!

@Keravin: Really like inq28, and your guy is pretty cool. Kayzys look cool too.

Guys - not had chance to do my comments but the Cawdor are not mine. You may wish to reread. Those are Grisnik's so any comments about Cawdor for me aren't about my minis.

Aha, well nice job! Now that you say so, I can recognize some of the parts, but I think the mini looks great.

    Oops! fixed above.

Re: Tale Of Skirmish Painters season 2 - Month 3 finished pictures, WIP month 4

@EmperorNorton – love the crew! Great work on many varied models. I'm working from memory at the moment as unfortunately I cannot see your picture...

@LittleJoe – great little model, shame it’s just the one. The colour combination does look slightly Mrs. Claus, which I think adds to the menace.

@Bubbatron – cool models. My advice with source lighting is to learn to highlight backwards, odd as it sounds. Good start on the D-Wars as well, even if it is pesky Antarticans!

@Grisnik – Great set there – really like the lighting on the Koalas eyes and the rich blue on the Cawdor.

@Maxxev – the tortoise dude is fantastic, and I appreciate the subdued tones on the other models (except the Slayer, mind!)

@Harry – sublime as ever. The flesh tone is especially good, and the pirates look nicely unified while sill being unique.

@Hairy Norseman – funky models! I love that this thread brings out so many different ranges, some of which I’ve never heard of before. Look forward to seeing them finished.

@Keravin – long time follower of your Inq28 work, nice to see the model done! The other three are also nice, though I’d like to see the bases get some more love.

Replies – cheers for the comments guys, it’s been a productive month and I can’t promise next month (week?) will have the same quantity. Have been working a lot on the Inq28 stuff and managed five or six models, but nowhere near the level of an entire Gatorman Horde. After the natural curves and easy scale of the Privateer Press models I feel like I’m learning to paint detail again – true-scale 28mm is small!

I fear my Infinity project has lost another month as well, and I don’t know when I’ll be able to shake off the demands of Inq28.

The skin on the Gatormen is a simple Traitor Green (p3 paints) washed with black and then highlighted back up with Traitor Green and increasing amounts of either grey or Vallejo Buff. I went for more grey on the Undead Gators to simulate the... deadness.

@EmperorNorton –That's an odd crew. Really like the winged guy.

    @LittleJoe – She's a fun model. Very characterful.

@Bubbatron – The Wraith is lovely. The red really sets it off.

@Grisnik – The Cawdor look great. Such a nice rich blue.

@Maxxev – The undead crew are really nice. Love the skull heads on the archers.

@TheJudge - the Crocs are fantastic for such an amount painted so quickly. For the Inq28 I'd have probably done a bit more to differentiate Han and changed the weapon on the other guy, but they are really nice models.

@Harry – Fun pirate. Looking forward to the cowboys.

@Hairy Norseman – The unit looks good so far so looking forward to seeing them done next month.

@Bubbatron - like the frigates. Are you planning on doing markings to make them more individual?

Thanks for the comments. I don't tend to put individual shots in the thread when I've put up WIP/finished shots the month before Vacetti shots can be found on the Inq28 plog here.. Harlequin and the Eliminators are here.

@TheJudge - I don't tend to do a lot on bases outside of Inq28, though the Everblight I'm doing will have snow bases.

Still getting used to using a new lightbox so I did have shots of finished stuff that's been done this month, but the shots are rubbish. Need to get new ones. So far this month finished Rover, Mule and Rocinante jacks all converted for Warmachine. Also done everything but the bases for the first bits of the Pink Everblight.

To Keravin, and others... I probably should have made Clemens' gun a bit more 40K but I just loved the look of the asault rifle on him. In time I may reconsider, we'll have to see if it's too odd in the middle of the crew. As for Han, he's now a limited edition model! No way am I changing him - I'm too much of a Star Wars nerd.

That's why I've bought two versions of the Mcvey 'Serenity' crew. One to preserve and one to potentially chop up and convert
