    40k Terrain: Ammo Dump-Zelot Shrine

So I'm going to do my Project logs here. Despite the thread title I will not be placing them in Alphabetical order.

I use a wide range of materials but mostly PVC board, Mat Board, and Cardstock. I'd like to use plasticard but it is too expensive for me. I also want to branch out into other forms of terrain making. I don't make the neatest builds, or the most detailed. I also don't describe things very well.

Modular Bastion- I started out with Google Sketchup 6 to make a modular Imperial Bastion.

Now the thought was to use magnets or something so I can just make a ton of pieces and then just snap them together, I'm still working on that part.

I test built one out of Cardstock using textures from Dawn of War II

Then I started making one from 2mm and 1mm Mat Board (picture framing mat)and cardstock.

I decided I wanted a taller bastion tower after the initial test so designed a taller one.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to make the bolters for the Bastion and other weapons like the Quad gun and Las Cannon. I'm thinking of using a fine texture Spary then prime over it before painting it.

    Space Marine Armoury:

I'm not sure where I got the plans for this but I wanted to see if I could make it out of pizza boxes. A sort of challenge for me.

I had to make a few changes to the plans due to the thickness of the material. I have to say pizza boxes is not an ideal building material. Like every other bit of my terrain it is still awaiting painting as I HATE painting. I like design and building.

Hey, glad to see you over here. Hope that this will be helping you out. I hadn't seen the armory before. Thanks for the share

I don't know if anyone here drinks Yakult or not, but I have amassed a lot of these little containers. So I figured I could do something with them after I saw this in Space Marine.

Now I have stated that I'm no Bugbait, I can't get super uber cool detail, but I played around with Sketchup and made some plans.

Now I've tried to implement them, I need to figure out the right way to base this, and to add some more detail.

Trees - I hate flock trees. I always tend to wreck them. I love the GW plastic jungle trees and the Citadel woods. However I prefer to build my own terrain and buy my models. So I needed some trees. I set out to make a new type of tree the resembles what I like about the Jungle Trees and Citadel Woods. I started out by making a very large tree so I could experiment. The next trees will be half the size and based on 40mm and 60mm bases.

The main frame of the tree is made from wire. The bark is made from cheap toilet tissue and watered down PVA glue. It took a few days to dry but once it did the bark shrank, wrinkled and hardened better than I thought it would! The foliage is made from Cereal boxes and a Craft Leaf Punch (small) I'm looking for a Mini-Leaf Punch at the moment so I can mix the two sizes. I'm still not done painting it.

I like your work, your bastion rocks!! The imperial eagle detail is a great touch!
That space marine armoury looks very familiar.

Starting on the smaller version of the tree. I will make one smaller tree then I will make a tutorial with the next one. First will be the 40mm based trees.

If it ever stops raining I will be able to take the bastion out to be primed and textured (or textured then primed) as the current weather report goes I will be lucky to get to it before Autumn! Stupid weather.

Also using bugbait_nz's barrel idea and making a fuel & ammo dump.

I like the bark on the tree, it's really effective and your bastion is awesome!

Re: 40k Terrain: Ammo Dump-Zelot Shrine

I've got four more trees in the works (they take a few days to dry) along with some foliage. I decided to get some painting done. Now remember I hate painting and I'm really not very good at it.

I decided to go with Red, Metallic and Tin Bitz for my Machanicus Terrain but standard military green for military buildings. Plus the Red and Tin Bitz looks good with Chaos since my best mate plays CSM. This is only the first coat. I still need to add washes, highlights, blending and all that stuff.

I've gotten the chance to texture and prime my Bastion!!

I made a cloud image in photoshop and printed it on inkjet transparencies.

I've put a quick tutorial of how I design my terrain From Desktop to Table Top Part 1 and Part 2 and I hope to get to Part 3 soon.

I'm tired of punching Rivets and Leaves, my hand hurts so I've taken a break from physical models and started to redesign my Imperial fence.

finishing up the last of the trees. They take a while to make.

They may take a while, but the results are excellent

Two days later they are finally dry enough to handle. I'll start cutting the canopy for them today. I'm going to use Maple leaves instead of Birch leaves on the last of them.

I'm going to paint the last four Birch (that look nothing like Birch) and that should finish the pictures I need for a tutorial.

I've made some progress on the modular Bastion. I neglected to make an inner corner, now you can make a Cruciform Bastion with a large tower in the center if you wanted to!
