    Re: Sons of Horus

the aquilas are no accident actually. To keep it in the (pre)heresy style there are no aquilas on the torsos of the regular marines, but I wanted an army that was either just before Istvan or shortly after.
In one of the books Loken mentions the chaos arrows as a kind of lodge thing, even before Istvan. I decided that I wanted to use both the chaos heraldry and the imperial heraldry. If the army hasn't turned
yet, it is obvious where this is going. If they already have, it is clear they have become traitors very recently I realy like how the books reveal that the legion slowly changes upto the point of becoming traitor.
In the earky days of the heresy Horus was convinced the emperor was the badguy. And because I like this aspect so so much, I wanted to emphasize this in the army ad my models.

wow I am really impressed with the work you have done son far. I like every model but I think my favourite so far is the sergeant with the hood and power fist, he looks vert menacing. Where did you get the power fist from out of interest?

Must resist urge to buy contemptor for Thousand sons :P Your stuff is really nice, and that has to be one of the most persuasive contemptors I've seen.

    Re: Sons of Horus

    time for another update:

    some tactical boys (nearly finished)

and my erebus. I intend to use him as a psyker in my army, perhaps along with a squad of word bearers..
I must say I havn't consorted any artwork of erebus, though I own the collected visions book, but I worked
mainly from how I imagined him to be

and a pic of my very WIP stormtalon

    Re: Sons of Horus

Erebus looks nice... But he would've been grey/bare metal at the time...

Can post some build pics of the storm talon... I'd really like to see how you extended the tail. Finally, it looks right

    Re: Sons of Horus

@ steinhardt: I believe that around its an the word bearers already changed their armour to red. I believe that in galaxy in flames Erebus is mentioned as wearing a suit of deep crimson armour. But as I said, it was more a kind of distraction from the green and I didn't really look up any artwork.

@beppo: I will make some more pictures when it's a little bit more finished. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. Unfortunately I have no pictures of it without paint. I just extended the tail with plastic card and the engine part is partially plastic card as well. The intake and the cables on top are from the Valkyrie kit and the outlet is from te outlet of the storm talon on the bottom.

Thanks, if you could explain where you made your cuts on the base model... Basically a quick explanation of what you did it would be greatly appreciated

Where are those bolters from by the way? Are they the FW ones? I don't recognize them.

    Re: Sons of Horus

@ Malika: yes they are the newest FW bolters, phobos pattern or something? (anyways, the ones released with the mk IV terminators)

@Beppo: I made the cuts as is shown in the image below. Then I dicided how long I wanted the tail to be. Then I measured the length of the gap between the main hull and the tail wings. You may have noticed that the tail has actually 8 sides, creating the shape of a kind of octagonal. I first built the upper, lower and side pieces of the new tail. I glued them with superglue to be sure that they wouldnt move during the build. Then I added the four parts that were angled. I glued them with Plastrukt Bondene, which is a very liquid, but fast drying plastic cement. This was for durability, because superglue breaks more easily. After having the tail in place, I started sanding heavily, not only to erase errors, but also to blend the pieces together. This step was followed by some green stuffing (there were gaps in some parts of the tail because the piecies wern't cut spot on). Then a layer of some liquid greenstuff for ultimate smootheness. After this all had dried a sanded again and added the two ridges in the middle of the tail. I just drew them on with a pencil and then cut them with my exacto knife and sanded them. Lastly, I added some detail with strips of plastic card and a mechanicum icon on one of the sides.

Finally I made the engines. The are just a plastic card tub with the exhaust bit from the stormtalon and the intake from the valkyrie kit.

I hope this helps a bit.

O btw, I found some WIP pictures of Horus, shown on the first page, maybe it interests you guys..
Also... a homemade pre heresy pattern predator. I don't know if I'll use it, because I'm more into droppods. I really love the idea of droppods and how they're shown in the HH novels
