Thread: My dark elves

    Re: My dark elves

    ++ Update ++

    as promised something with the awesome plastic sorceress

    ive started another diorama, i know its not army buiding but hey!

    Sorceress diorama 1 by ryanp111, on Flickr

    so its a sorceress on a rocky outcrop shooting out a big ass ball of fire or some other such magicy effect - granted theres no fireball yet but itl go on the wire

    the idea is that il sink the base in so i can use the model in games too instead of only being a dispay thing

    hopefully il get to work with the painting over the weekend and have something good to show you guys again soon

    ++ Update ++

    so finally some paint to show you guys

    Blonde sorceress 1 by ryanp111, on Flickr

    thought id have a go at blonde hair, and i think it turned out pretty good in the end - ive seen an old legolas model i painted in the early days with bright yellow hair - this lady is a vast improvement!

    also had ago at a very basic sculpt of some flickering fire (not the tzeentch type) to go with the fireball i tried to do on the diorama - this will follow once its painted =D

    Blonde sorceress 2 by ryanp111, on Flickr

    hopefully this shows it abit better too

    also attempted abit of a fail freehand on the inside of the skirt but it looks ok i guess

    let me know what you guys think, and if youre bored with the dislay stuff too xD

    ++ Update ++

    Finished the dislay base for the new sorceress

    Sorceress diorama base by ryanp111, on Flickr

    So the fireball is awful - not a great sculpt, and the paint wasnt the easiest either - any tips with the painting of it would be nice =D For the record it is more orange in real life but yeah still could be better!

    Went to town with the blood effects if only to add abit of colour to the grey. Hopefully when it dries the ard coat will come up good

    Overall im very happy with the result. Together they look even better imo =D

    Anyways the finished result (as if you couldnt already picture it =p)

    Any comments any of you might have would be great, seems to have gone quiet around here xd

    Glad to see you have an eye for scenics. Your army is coming together nicely, it really shows with the batrep pics.

    ++ Update ++

    More of the random side to this plog - should maybe create another and be more organised but hey!

    so ive been pondering over reigniting my counts - was basically my first army ever, but most has been lost over the years. managed to salvage a few models though, and ive given a wraith a fresh coat of paint to celebrate.

    my attempt at ethereal paint!

    Cairn wraith by ryanp111, on Flickr

    also as another 'random' i picked up some stone trolls on ebay - the models are incredible - and so i had ago at painting one of them.

    not too difficult to do either as theyre big models, and whilst its no eavy metal job i think he looks cool - only problem is the eyes that im struggling with.

    also the wash was still wet when i took the photos, hence the shine!

    Re: My dark elves

    Hey mate, really nice work on the ethereal there - you've definitely managed to capture that 'otherwordly' feel with the highlighting and washes, well done!

    The troll is also well painted, but I can see what you mean with the eyes. It looks like you've got the hang of the sclera and the pupil, I think if you hadn't nicked the cheek on the way through it would be fine!

    Keep up the good work, you're progressing along nicely

    Re: My dark elves

    @il maestro

    thanks so much for the comments. im really pleased with how they both turned out! shame you (eagle eyes) had to notice the slight nick of eyeball =p but il go back and touch up once the other 2 are painted =D i know its not strictly druchii but its nice to have a slight distraction nown' again - granted there seems to be more than a 'slight' distraction going on atm but hey.

    on a side note i finished the (insert correct collective for wraiths) horde? caggle?? of wraiths - aside from basing of course

    here they are

    Mostly finished ethereals by ryanp111, on Flickr

    kinda want to do something different on the banshee to make her stand out abit - maybe paint something in non ethereal like shes partially back from the spirit world

    suggestions for this would be great =D

    Re: My dark elves

    Nice work on the rest of the wraiths there, they look really nice! In terms of suggestions for the banshee, it really depends which way you want to take the model - you could do something simple like painting here in a different ethereal colour like some of the black ones done in this thread...

    http://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-...nd-Spirithosts

    Or you could maybe do her skin/flesh the same as you have with the wraiths but paint the clothes and robes onto her as if they were still there? Just a few ideas

    Re: My dark elves

    love the dark etheral look that dude did but i think il go for the real world clothing xD

    What colour do you reckon - bare in mind i dont have any army colours for it to match just yet lol so any suggestions are cool =D

    ++ Update ++

    Firstly im on holiday for a week from tomorrow so no updates for then... Gran Canaria wooo!!!! hopefully get something better than this british 'summer' =D

    on the update front ive decided on the basing for both the trolls (soon to become a 1000points savage army based around Da Tartan Army Boyz) and the vampire counts - the counts is the same just replace the yellow grass =]

    Re: My dark elves

    Hey everyone

    Back from holiday now and I've been straight on with the painting but unfortunately it's empire again which is gonna have to go somewhere else i think.

    I may post a pretty awful attempt at a baby belthasar I did but there's not a lot to it.

    I have a question probably should be in the rules part etc but what's the power dice limit for casting now... Is it max of your wizard level or as many as you like?? I've checked the rules but cant seem to find anything???

    Thanks

    Re: My dark elves

    + Update +

    so because im so fickle with army building i should really have made this a general log, but i didnt, and i have some pictures from the empire to show you.

    i think i will make a separate log for them eventually ive nearly got 500 points ready for a game on thursday.

    this is the baby belthasar guy i mentioned previously, not really much of anything special just looks vaguely like the famous pegasus riding alchemist, and i thought it would be cool to have rules for him too =D

    Baby Belthasar by ryanp111, on Flickr

    i also painted (mostly) a bright wizard too but its terrible. orange robes are too damned hard to do!!!

    WIP Bright Wizard by ryanp111, on Flickr

    the flaming skull isnt quite right, and the marbley staff is not particularly neat but yeah.

    also any ideas on what to do with the staff top, dont really want to just paint it gold but im not sure what else???

    Re: My dark elves

    Ok so I'm thinking people must be gettin disappointed with the lack of elves coming through here. Because of this I'd like to request instructions on how to change the thread name. I have no idea and being abit of a blog novice I don't really know where to look???

    I think it should be more like randoms and dark elves now mainly all things fantasy with a leaning to dark elves empire orcs and vampire counts. I want to do 4 armies all at the same time damn it! Just too indecisive :/

    ++ Update ++

    to emphasise my lack of willpower in sticking with an army i have another 'random' to show.

    quite embarrasing that in nearly 10 years in the hobby this is the first greenskin ive painted!

    anyways its still WIP atm needs some warpaint a few touch ups, and basing

    but a savage orc shaman for you =D

    There's some really nice stuff in your log. I particularly like the blonde hair on the Dark Elf Sorceress and the skin tone of the Orc Shaman. Keep it up!

    Cheers,

    @Monsterzonk

    Thanks!

    Its funny my 2 favorite and lets be honest my best painted models (by my low standard xD) happen to be those 2 too!

    On the updates front, i think there will be a new savage thread opening up soon - think its time i differentiated now and did organised and 'more proper' logs.

    Re: My dark elves

    ok so like i said i have something to leave for the time im away...

    i have another project in mind (im sure everyone knows the feeling) but this one is going to be a 'proper' project log

    as in i will start from the begining, i will update you on things only related to the project in the log (this one will remain the assorted mess that it is), i will give you my work area, models and stuff as i get them, and hopefully only - or atleast mostly - finished project pictures.

    i will start the log when i get back from Taiwan - seems silly to get another thing going and then let it go stale for 3weeks - but for now a snippit of the fluff ive written, and a picture.

    "The Southlands… Barren desert to deep jungles. As diverse a place as you could live in the Old World. By no means any safer. There are of course a plethora of nasties that would no sooner get stomped to the earth than tear you to pieces. This includes the vegetation!

    To the North there are the horse lords of Nehekhara. An expansive race of harsh military men, and harsher merchants! Look twice at the glittering trinkets and fragrant spices they have for sale and it could mean you more than being out haggled by the traders. Worlds apart from the lush jungle in the south, that is without question more dangerous. The jungles don’t accept overly explicit manners for an accidental broken vase, no matter how well versed in foreign tongue you are!"

    if you feel like it have a guess at what the army is, and what you might expect - the picture may be more helpful?

    just for scale they are about the size of a penny =D

    i look forward to seeing what you all think =D
