    Flyers and reserves

    Page 80 - Flyers

Must flyers start in reserves or can they choose?. The spanish version again is a bit contradictory. First it says they "can start in reserve" and then it says that commanders "need time to coordinate their action".

Mistranslation. Flyers always start in Reserve. The English book uses the word "must".

Seems like the spanish version is riddled with translation issues...

Why don't you have the english version? It seems that you are more than able to understand it. And every translations seems to be full whit errors.
(don't get me started on the dutch version of the 5th editon, which had a huge spelling error on the cover.)

Because some shops don't order foreign language editions? Might as well ask why British and Ameradian folk don't have the German edition…

Not just the Spanish. The German one too and I'd wonder if the others are much better. It's as if most of them have not been translated by someone who actually has knowledge about the rules or about English wording.

PS: I do have the English and the German version and imo it pays off. German is an easy read for me as a native, but the English one should be at hand when there's a problem. The English one of course arises new ones or doesn't make everything clear, but sometimes it's just plain better.

    You ... can't ... get ... an idea

In Spain, the translators are Warhammer 40.000's worst enemy. English version of the books are indeed quite hard to get around here and I completely dislike dowloading such things form the internet, that's why I have to bother you all with my questions. In fact, I bring here questions from all the country gathered in different forums, so you all are an invauable help for the hobby here.

    Question about flyers and reserves

I know that flyers must start the game in reserve, and as such they don't count towards the limit of 50% of unit max in reserve, however consider a unit that takes a dedicated transport that is a flyer (Necron night scythe for example).

Since the squad does not have to begin the game inside the transport do I count the squad as voluntarily placed in reserve if it begins the game in its transport (and therefore in reserve)?

Essentially, would a list composed entirely of units beginning in reserve because they are inside reserved flyer transports be legal or not?

I'd think not, you still lose the game at the end of turn one since you have nothing on the table. As you said the unit doesn't have to reserve, just the flyer. The only legal all reserve list is daemon(lol) and perhaps drop pods(not sure about these, if you buy one do you have to use it) and mycentic spores(which must deepstrike with their purchasing unit inside). A couple flyrants, couple harpies, some troops in spores. However you still lose at the end of the first player turn as you have nothing on the board unfortunately.

I don't get this logic. Why would original language countries get a translated version? There's no point. However, there is a point to getting an original language version.
We in Finland just get the English version, and honestly it's a blessing that we're small enough that we don't get stuff translated or dubbed.

    Re: Flyers and reserves

If the passengers are in a dedicated transport that has to start in reserves (ie drop pod, Mycetic Spore) then the passenger unit does not count for the 50% rule. I don't know if the Night Scythe is a dedcated transport.
Lets face it, by the sounds of things some of you people couldn't complete a game of snakes and ladders without running off to the internet to whine that snakes are broken and ladders are too powerful...

Might I suggest reading the rules before complaining about them? -Culven

    Re: Flyers and reserves

The thing is with the exception of the mycentic spore there is no obligation to be in your dedicated transport at the start of the game. The brb only says the unit's that MUST start in reserve don't count. Your tac squad still has the option to deploy and let the pod deepstrike on its own, just like a unit of immortals has the option to let their nightscythe come in on its own while they deploy.

Also you would auto lose if you played an all reserve army so there's no point in trying.

You can't get an idea of what a blessing that is, pal.
