Basic Rule Book, long pre-dates them being either Big or Red, or even referring to only Warhammer or 40K publications. Big Red Book is just a funny backronym.

Well it was the BGB when it is 4th ed for most people and it changed to BRB when 5th came out because it was red.
It may well be that some people always used BRB for whatever reason but that is how the name came about on here at least.
I have no problem still calling it the BRB, the only problem being when the small book comes out.
God had to give Jack Bauer immunity on the sixth commandment "Thou shalt not kill". If he hadn't, Jack would've considered God to be a terrorist and God knows what happens to terrorists.
Jack and Jill went up the hill. Only Jack came down. Jill was a *********** terrorist.

In 3rd I remember the acronym was BBB (Big Black Rulebook), 4th ed was accordingly BGB (Big Green/Grey Book) and 5th was thusly BRB (Big Red Book). So, I guess 6th ed should be BYB following that standard =)

Still prefer BADAB - Big Ass Dark Angel Book...
Warhammer Armies: Empire, Night Goblins, Dwarves, Daemons of Chaos
40K Armies: Chaos, Imperial Guard, Ultramarines, Chaos Daemons, Tyranids, Tau
Epic Armies: Imperial Guard, Ultramarines, Orks, Adeptus Titanicus.
BFG Forces: Imperial Navy, Chaos.

I too always thought it was "Big Rule Book" but I must admit calling the new one BADAB would be cool but could get confusing when you bring FW's Badab books into a conversation too.
The reference to the Badab War was why I coined the BADAB acronym. And I doubt there'll be any confusion between it and the IA books, as context will make it plenty clear which is being referred to.
<--- Space Wolf 4Life, I can never call it the BADAB... like ever.
BBB to BGB to BRB, history points us to the B(color)B schema.
I do think it should be BYB these days.
your ≠ you are
maybe, just maybe, we can call it the "rulebook"?

I just understood it as big rule book.
To be honest i hate all these abbreviations, as I don't always know what posters are on about. If I read BADAB, it would mean nothing to me and wouldn't understand the link. I think it's a terrible option.
Its worse when i swap between fantasy boards and 40k boards, and people are using the same abbreviations for different things, it just gets confusing.
Why people feel it's necessary to save milliseconds of time writing like that I don't know, and text speak is even worse.
To my knowledge, it did indeed start off meaning Big red Book, as the 4th ed was BGB, but BRB has stuck and has changed to mean Big Rule Book.
He's a semi aquatic, egg laying mammal of action.
To Insanity... and beyond.
I call it BRB because that's what I've always called core rulebooks for games. BRB = basic/big rulebook. Preceeding any specific color of 40k book, and originating from outside of 40k.
Also when I see badab I think of the imperial armor 9-10: The Badab War.
