The 'not so' Grey Knights project log

    Hi all,

With a few games of 6th edition under my belt, and being branded 'filthy' after turning up with my Aircav and wiping the floor with the person I was playing *gulp*, I've decided to revisit my Grey Knights and remodel and paint them for 6th edition. For those of you who didn't see my other log, my grey knights were painted like so:

Link to the album for all the images: http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/a...nights%20Army/

They are'nt by any means bad, but I feel as though I've developed my skill further, and want to improve on my painting cleanliness. A lot of the battle damage in the current paintjob was done in order to cover up a rushed paintjob. With this in mind, here is my newly created 6th ed list:

1800 Pts - Grey Knights Roster

    HQ: Castellan Crowe
. . 1 Castellan Crowe, 150 pts ((C:GK, pg. 42); Unit Type: Infantry; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Artificer Armour; Iron Halo; Storm Bolter; The Blade of Antwyr; * The Perfect Warrior; Fearless; Master Swordsman; Preferred Enemy (Daemons); Psyker (Mastery Level 1); The Aegis; Titan's Herald; Cleansing Flame; Hammerhand; Heroic Sacrifice)

Crowe is included to simply make Purifiers troops, he is also pretty much a tank on his own

    HQ: Ordo Malleus Inquisitor
. . 1 Ordo Malleus Inquisitor, 73 pts ((C:GK, pg. 44); Unit Type: Infantry; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Empyrean Brain Mines; Psybolt Ammunition; Power Armour; Daemonblade x1; Plasma Pistol x1; Independent Character; Stubborn)

    Elite: Paladin Squad
. . 1 Paladin Squad, 445 pts ((C:GK, pg. 30); Unit Type: Infantry; Psybolt Ammunition; And They Shall Know No Fear; Brotherhood of Psykers; Combat Squads; Preferred Enemy (Daemons); The Aegis; Hammerhand; Holocaust)
. . . . 1 Apothecary (Unit Type: Infantry; Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Narthecium; Terminator Armour; Nemesis Daemonhammer; And They Shall Know No Fear; Brotherhood of Psykers; Combat Squads; Preferred Enemy (Daemons); The Aegis)
. . . . 1 Paladin (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Terminator Armour; Brotherhood Banner; Storm Bolter)
. . . . 1 Paladin (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Terminator Armour; Storm Bolter; Nemesis Daemonhammer)
. . . . 1 Paladin (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Terminator Armour; Master-craft Ranged Weapon; MC Psycannon; Nemesis Daemonhammer)
. . . . 1 Paladin (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Terminator Armour; Master-craft Ranged Weapon; MC Psycannon; Nemesis Daemonhammer)

    Heavy Support: Land Raider Redeemer
. . 1 Land Raider Redeemer, 290 pts ((C:GK, pg. 36); Unit Type: Vehicle (Tank); Transport Capacity: 12 models; Access Points: 3; Fire Points: 0; Frag Assault Launchers; Smoke Launchers; Extra Armor; Multi-melta; Psybolt Ammunition; Psyflame Ammunition; 2x Flamestorm Cannons; Twin-Linked Assault Cannon; Assault Vehicle; Power of the Machine Spirit; Psychic Pilot; The Aegis; Fortitude)

Inquisitor and his 'retinue' and transport. I've had to pick the Redeemer as its got a transport capacity of 12 models, and also its 10 points cheaper! The strength 7 Assault Cannon is also really handy against vehicles. The Inquisitor is purely there for fluff purposes - although he isn't that good on the battelfield I absolutely love Inquisitors in the fluff, and I despise that they have watered down their authority in the latest edition (Eg no longer being the only ones allowed to issue an exterminatus order). I'll be using the Rex model from Forgeworld, Seen at the following link: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhamme...D-RETINUE.html

    Troops: Purifier Squad
. . 1 Purifier Squad, 315 pts ((C:GK, pg. 31); Unit Type: Infantry; Psybolt Ammunition; Brotherhood of Psykers; Combat Squads; Fearless; Preferred Enemy (Daemons); The Aegis; Cleansing Flame; Hammerhand)
. . . . 1 Knight of the Flame (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Power Armour; Storm Bolter; Nemesis Daemonhammer)
. . . . 5 Purifier (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Power Armour; Storm Bolter; Nemesis Force Halberd)
. . . . 4 Purifier (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Power Armour; Psycannon)

    Troops: Purifier Squad
. . 1 Purifier Squad, 315 pts ((C:GK, pg. 31); Unit Type: Infantry; Psybolt Ammunition; Brotherhood of Psykers; Combat Squads; Fearless; Preferred Enemy (Daemons); The Aegis; Cleansing Flame; Hammerhand)
. . . . 1 Knight of the Flame (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Power Armour; Storm Bolter; Nemesis Daemonhammer)
. . . . 5 Purifier (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Power Armour; Storm Bolter; Nemesis Force Halberd)
. . . . 4 Purifier (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Psyk-out Grenades; Power Armour; Psycannon)

Standard troops, can combat squad if needed

    Elite: Venerable Dreadnought
. . 1 Venerable Dreadnought, 210 pts ((C:GK, pg. 35); Unit Type: Vehicle (Walker); Smoke Launchers; Extra Armor; Psybolt Ammunition; Twin-Linked Autocannon; Twin-Linked Autocannon; Preferred Enemy (Daemons); Psychic Pilot; Reinforced Aegis; The Aegis; Venerable; Fortitude)

And some AT. Those TL S8 Autocannons should be able to glance even a Land raider to death in the new edition

Well, that's the list, and now I need help on decideing on the colour scheme. I've had a couple of ideas for a quick, easy colour scheme but dont know which one to pick yet, so I need your thoughts!

There is either grey, bone or blue base, which will eventually be highlighted back up to somewhere near white, but I have just added the first wash to help me decide on the colour scheme. (Ignore the texture, the humidity was off when spraying and so they are getting stripped and resprayed.)

So which do you guys like the most?

Oh, and PS. Here's a colour scheme I did, but you can't vote for

    Thanks guys,

    Until next time,

    Wolf

Ha, you dont loose me that easy, Mate

Well, i think im also for the bone one. Think itll look good brought back to white. I think the gray will get to "washed-out" and the blue will get to white, if you get my idea.
( But hey, im colorblind, so hear what the others say and ignore me. )

I like the blue, myself. Bone would be my second choice.

Looks like this'll be a fun one to watch - I enjoy "non-standard" GK.

Thanks for the input so far guys - I was also leaning towards the blue unti leveryone said "Go with the bone" haha. I might have to wait until I can get some stripped and then paint both up properly and see what I/people think then

Indeed, and you may want to invest in new undercoat.. or undercoat in a more suitable enviroment, cause atm, that undercoat is thick and got a ton of bumps in it, making it less then ideal for "wash" treatment..

so, go for the bone.. :P

If you read my first post, It says how they are being stripped and re-painted because I painted them and the humidity was way high, causing it to clump

Thanks for the voting guys Going to paint both up as soon as I can strip some and respray and then I'll post pics of both armours fully completed

Just a quick update - my hands now stink of Dettol. I've had them sat in it overnight and just scrubbed and re-sprayed them, so should have the test models tomorrow if not this evening!

Resprayed and washed, and the blue is a lot more vivid than it was in the other wash - I'll try get them painted today but I have a load of stuff I'm wanting to paint and sell which takes priority

Blue looks cool, but bone is still my favorite.

Definitely leaning towards the blue now - but I'll still put it out there for discussion/opinions:

Also bought a Hector Rex yesterday, so that should be here soon - I'm rather excited about it getting here.

That bone is looking really good, I also think you will find it easier to build up your colour scheme than the blue. Great work look forward to seeing more.

The Bone is my favourite. Then again, I'm influenced having been a one time Deathwing player, and my Khorne Warriors of Chaos army having Bone armour instead of the more typical Bronze and Red.

It was just so easy to paint, as well as looking very effective.

At the end of the day, it's what you enjoy painting the most.

I'm liking the blue, Used the same technique on some chosen for fantasy. As with the bone, its a nice start to the model and would certainly stand out.

Looking forward to seeing the final choice!

    Your outvoted, Mate

Just joking, if you like the blue, then use blue. Its your GKs. It will be you playing and looking at them every day.

Re: The 'not so' Grey Knights project log

I went with the bone but in a completely different method on my Inquisitor, who is still heavily WIP. I am in LOVE with this model!

In an effort to make my Grey Knights even more different, I'll be adorning them with various capes and bits from the Space Wolves kits (See if you can guess why), but also recently came across these:

And they got me looking a little more into specific conversion parts, other than sticking a load of random bits from the Space Wolf acessory sprues onto them. What do you guys think about the above helmets? I'm still unsure of them if I'm totally honest, but its food for thought.

Another option is shoulder pads (Which I really like, but might be a pain as all the models I have are the old metals which means carving all the old shoulder pads off:

Then I found these heads, which I fell in love with - although they are'nt particularly wolf themed, I think they would look stunning in conjunction with some of the other wolf-themed accessories or conversion parts.

So, what do we think? I really need your input here.

EDIT: I hate how photo's bring out every blemish on something that looks great to the naked eye.
