    Dark Age SAGA

After looking at SAGA for many months I have finally taken the plunge into the Dark Ages. This log will be used to keep track of all the warbands I will be assembling. The long term aim is for a warband of each faction, each starting at 6 points with a Hero of the Viking Age for each aswell. Initial purchses have led to Viking, Anglo-Dane, Anglo-Saxon, Skraeling and possibly Jomsviking warbands. First on the painting table is the Vikings. Im aiming to paint these quick, but I also want them to look unclean and as though they belong in the wars. First up is my Warlord:

    Next my first 4 Hearthguard

    And my first 8 Warriors

    And the warband so far

So what do you all think? Next up is more Warriors and Hearthguard.

The speed painting shows, but it's still a decent result. I'd however cover the red, white and yellow shield fields a second time.

    Re: Dark Age SAGA

They look good although I will second Karak Norn Clansman - some of the shields could use a second coat of paint (mostly red or yellow areas) so that the dark undercoat doesn't show through so much.

I like how you've based them - cohesive with enough detail to make them feel like they're all on the same field without too much clutter to distract from the minis.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

    They're good.
Really dynamic looking mini's, who are they by? I really like the basing too, nice and coherent.

A good ol' wash of Devlan Mud (or Agrax Earthshade as it's now known) might help roughen them up and give them a grimier look still and pick out some more of the detail, especially on the armour. plus it's nice and quick!

Looking forward to seeing more of them!

    Well it's update time again.
@ Karak Norn Clansman and Whitwort Stormbringer, I agree with the shield comments. So thans for the advice ar they any better now? (see later pics)
@Whitwort Stormbringer and anerion, thank you for the kind basing comments. I was hoping to make the bases look natural and yet have some detail too.
@anerion, all the armoured figures including the Warlord are from the Gripping Beast plastic Viking Hirdmen set.
    And now for more pictures.
    Next four Hearthguard:

    Next 8 Warriors:

And the Warband so far (4 points):

So what does everyone think? Next up last 8 warrirs and 4 beserkers

    Re: Dark Age SAGA

Well after a night of painting, they are all finished. 6 points of Vikings ready for battle.
@Karak Norn Clansman, Thank you very much :-)
Now onto pics, first up are the last 8 warriors:

    Next, four beserkers:

And finally, the warband in all its glory:

So what does everyone think? Next up is either Anglo-Danes or Skraelings.

Nice-looking warband! The shields came together very well, good solid color.

I like the berserkers, and good use of the WGF plastics for some unarmored warriors. They and the GB plastics go very well together side-by-side, IMO.

I vote Skraelings next, but Danes would be cool too.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

Well we've managed a few games, really liking the rules. Thought I'd share a pic of our latest game, Anglo-Danes, Vikings and Jomsvikings:

And after counting votes, I started the Skraelings. I realise they don't have spears yet but I need to find my drill bits. But here are the first 8 warriors:

What do you guys think? Next is levy for them

    Skraelings looking good so far.

In that battle shot - are yours the only painted minis on the table? You put your opponents to shame!

I LIKE the minies that ARE painted. I look forward to more WIP photos. I do have plans for some boxes of the Saga minies.......Especially, the Skraelings/Native Americans minies.

Oh I see - making your friends play with the unpainted figures, that's very magnanimous of you

Kidding, sometimes painted or not you gotta play!

Wow, I should say so! My current output is closer to 2-3 minis a month, so you've got me beat by a mile.

That is a fantastic months painting.

You keep pianting that many miniatures ... I guarantee the quality of your painting will improve beyond recognition in no time at all.

    Great stuff.

    Re: Dark Age SAGA

Well its time for some more pictures. Finallygot the levy finished for the Skraelings:

Also beginning on some Romans for both Hail Caesar and SAGA, these will be geting painted alongside the SAGA minis so they can share a thread :-). So here is the test mini for my Early Imperial Romans (Warlord model).

So what do you guys think? Next up will be another 8 warriors along with the Warlord, plus the previous 8 warriors now they have their javelins. And probably more Romans too :-)

Oh man, you're a machine! I envy you, I just don't have the discipline to crank out minis that fast. I think your test Roman came out well!

    Re: Dark Age SAGA

Well it's been a productive day. I was sick of fleshtones so the Romans got some attention. So now they stand at 10 painted including command, now for the pictures:

So what do people think? Next will be either more Romans or some more Skraeling warriors.
