    Issues with Caliban Green?

    Hi all,

I got a pot of Caliban Green tonight at my local GW (quite different from good old Dark Angels Green), and I wondered if anyone has experienced any issues with this colour?

I have found tonight that the paint really is rather horrible to work with. Show's brush strokes very heavily, even when thinned and applied very carefully (I always unload excess onto tissue before painting). The surface texture is also very horrible. It leaves a rather gritty and ugly finish.

I use Vallejo Model Colour a lot these days, but I have used Citadel Colour for years. I always praised Citadel Colour for its great acryllics and ease of use for brush painting (I also Airbrush).

However I have found this new paint (and so far only this colour in particular), to be extremely problematic.

I am rather disapointed with it, and if it weren't for the fact that I need Dark Angels Green (or something close to it) I would have thrown the pot away completely and looked for a Model Colour alternative.

Bad batch? Or just a particularly bad colour in the new range?

I'd be very interested to hear people thoughts on this.

    Many thanks!

I've noticed similar effects and find I have to apply at least two coats*, for one of there "base" paints that's a bit pants really. Like a lot of people the fact that the colour is nothing like the old dark angels green is frustrating, at the moment I've tried been using a green wash which makes it a bit more like the old DA green (although I'm using the old thraka green wash, no idea if the new one will be the same).

Can't offer any alternatives although I'd be glad to hear some.

*Having said that I have had that issue with some of the old foundation paints as well, it was the red one if I remember correctly (mechrite?) so it may just be bad batches. Generally I found their foundation range (and acryllics in general) to be good.

I haven't had any issues with my Caliban Green. Thinned it as usual and got my coverage in a single coat, but I'm using it as a base layer, not the primary color.

I've had more issues with the new Layers than the new Bases.

So which part of their business can they get rid of quality for poor stuff now?

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback and the comments. Good to hear other peoples ideas. I too was quite taken aback by the big difference in colour with the old Dark Angels Green.

I will try to mix the later layers to get a brighter shade closer to the old colour.
