Last I checked, AP1/2 don't do anything to make a glance more severe? Also, stuns only happen on a pen now, so you don't *need* to ignore them as much, and squadrons still allow you to act as a single unit for such purposes as making sure someone can't easily isolate your vehicles in assault (where they'll die a bit faster, but...). So, on the whole, squadrons traded a significant liability for a much less significant liability and... that's it.

Probably not. Focus fire will let opponent target anything with a 5+ save or less.

They all have jink, which means a 5+ save pretty much all the time, meaning you can't focus fire to pick out the model left in the open.

If all three models are visible, but the Turboboosted one is closest to me then I can choose to Focus Fire the two behind with the 5+ Jink as opposed to allocating to the front Turboboosting one with the 4+ Jink.

    Re: Squadrons in 6th pointless?

I love my penitent engine squadrons now. 3 Vehicles capable of throwing out between 12-27 str 10 AP 2 hits at ini. With 6 Heavy flamers for offensive and defensive purposes. Immune to shaken and stunned. Immobilized has no effect. And a lucky glance no longer kills me.

So squadrons are definitely not pointless in 6th edition. It just seems that some squadrons written for old army books don't do a very good job of taking advantage of the new rules.

All multi-model units now have the ability to only move some models in the unit, and leave others stationary. A big boost for squadrons and units with heavy weapons troops. A shaken vehicle can move, while unshaken squadron mates fire normally. Squadrons are also safer in assault now, as hits and damage results go on the vehicle actually assaulted until it is dead, rather than being spread out among the squadron evenly.
