I could use advice on Legion Build

Salut fellow Warseerites, from sunny Montreal.

I'm working towards an Ogrun Horde for my Legion force. Thinking 35 pts, based around a core of mongers, spears, cheiftan and thags. What do you folks think would work well to fill out the force?
I'm more interested in a cool concept and image than a win button, although I would like something that can fight.

    currently in progress

    Angelius
    full Blighted Archers

    Thoughts?

With all the ogrun you have plenty of anti infantry, so you should be looking to hard hitting beasts.

Carnivean and/or scythean would be good.

thank you, I was hoping you might answer. You seem to have a good sense of the Legion. I'm definetely including a Carni/Scythean, if only to have the mini. magnetized so I can interchange based on the meta. the Angelius provides some nice can opener and attack vectors. The big thing will be what direction to take solos. What do we have that can mess up jacks/beasts, as I already can handle infantry.

Best thing to handle heavies is our own heavies.

Unless playing in a special tournament you don't really need solos and I don't really see how they would be helping you out. I mean if you wanted some ranged support you could take a deathstalker or Annyssa Ryvaal (I like Ryvaal better), but you could also just kill this stuff by getting into its face.

The nice thing about running an ogryn list is that they can't be trampled, so you can run your jacks and heavies behind and feel safe in that they will need to be killed to get past.

Angelius can also be useful just for the animus. No need to kill something if you can just push it out of the zone and win by scenario.

That sounds quite nice. I'm like the idea of everything on medium or larger bases. win or lose, i should be a striking army to behold. especially at 35 - 50 points.
although at 50, i would likely include some variety, solos, ranged infantry, just to avoid fury issues.

And then there is Typhon, with Thag being able to give him +2 strength there is nothing he -can't- do.

Except maybe wreck a devastator under Harkevich' feat turn.

I see typhon as more anti-infantry which you will already have in spades. Use the +2 str on a cheaper combat beast and use the saved points on something else.

Russ: Yeah, I know! Magnus is a traitor! To think that he could accuse our beloved brother Horus of turning against us. Impossible! But don't worry. I have taken care of it, Horus asked me to destroyed Prospero and I have. Magnus shouldn't be bothering us again.
Lion: ... actually, I was going to say that Magnus was right. Horus has turned to Chaos, 7 other Legions have joined him and he has destroyed 3 Loyal Legions already!

What caster do you plan on using? Generally the caster is what will decide what bests are best. Pthags or Ethags? THe only reason i ever take a carnivean is for his animus the lack of reach really sucks. (plus for 2 pts cheaper a scythean is quite a steal!)

I may advise something like scythean, carn, shredder, succubuss warmongers (gators!!!! do it), then you can add your solos and stuff.

Use suc, to cast a free spiney growth, and cast a growth. now both beasts armor 20, you only spent 2 fury, or forced a beast, and can still tenacity both of them for armor 21 and a small defense boost. Pthags has a -2 str aura so that rocks your armor up to the effective armor 23 levels pretty good for our beasts.

A model can only have one animus on itself at a time, if you cast Tenacity on a model that had Spiny growth on it Spiny growth would expire and be replaced by Tenacity.
