Project Pandora is a secret operation by the human Corporation (think Aliens Weyland-Yutani Corporation and Firefly's Alliance Government) to unlock the secrets of a material called Verminium (due to its association with the other faction in the boxed game) that seems to power the Forge Fathers technological base, who are one of the only open contenders to human dominance.

The vessel carrying the material, is called the "Grim Cargo".

Unfortunately, the Veer-myn (ratmen) have become aware of this, and they also share an addiction to the material. The game opens as they board and raid the ship to obtain it, and the Corporation troopers are trying to stop them.
