Iron Within, Iron Without........ A Mordian Iron Guard log?

Yeah I bet your thinking I put this log in the wrong section, but future posts and fluff will explain this in time, firstly a little introduction, with the arrival of the new 40k edition and citadel paint range I thought it was a good time to start a new army, I know some of you will have thought the same? Well here are some pictures to show you what I did with my first order from GW, there are some minor conversions, and I ntend to go to town with the bases:

This is First Platoons Command Squad, fluff will come with the squad once painted.

    First infantry squad as above.

    Second infantry squad.

These are my five objective markers that I made.

Any way this is what I have so far, also made my next order with GW, and once all is built itnwill give me my first 500pts. Once I get some guys painted I will post them up for you to have a look.

Glory to the 51st Mordian Iron Guard!

    Pewter within, paint without!

Lovely conversions, the mordian sculpts are classics, I like the kneeling guy on the objective, and it bodes well for the conversions yet to come that you are comfortable converting metal like that.

It's always nice to see the Mordians getting some love.
But i have a suggestion: model some harness on the radio-operators. The Mordians don't have these "plug and play" knobs on their uniforms like the cadians on their armour.

Any plans for a unit of re-purposed Necromunda gangers? Mordia is a brutal hive world that needs it's standing military to put down constant civil unrest, so you could have some gangers stand in for a Penal Legion or some conscripts. I think their wild and irregular appearance would be a fantastic contrast to the disciplined and uniform look of the Iron Guard.

I love Mordians, and will be watching this log with great interest!

Re: Iron Within, Iron Without........ A Mordian Iron Guard log?

Good evening guys, I have a mini or update for you, and some replies:

Sheep: Ha yeah no paint as yet, got a tester for you to see on this post, and well there may be some future conversions in the army.....

Corvussanctus: I read that comment a bit too late as he now has paint on him, but hey when these guys use it they take it off their back and use it.

Yorrik: Your comment has give me some great ideas and a new approach the army, I will in the future be looking at suitable models to use as (conscripts/penal legion), so far I am thinking delaque or some version of mordians, still undecided. Thanks

Rogerio: Thanks hope you enjoy the log.

Right the good stuff, firstly a paint tester, I know it's blue but I really like the original scheme, the base is unfinished as I'm waiting for some basing materials to arrive, the photos are a bit poop too, sorry.

Next is some very WIP of my Compant Comander/Creed in the bigger games, any pointers?

Finally like the above a WIP of my Company Standard/Kell in bigger games, any pointers?

Anyway that's it for now I am currently painting the rest of the first squad and one objective, also got a 500pt game planned with the new rules tomorrow, hopefully get some pictures/report?

    Thanks for looking, Andy!

P.s. Any reason why the mordians have no power packs for their lasguns?

No Problem with the paint it's just two small strips of plasticcard, it's easy to add at any stage, like this:

I miss a little colour with the guys...what about painting the hat-band bright, like red?
And i would choose someone else to carry such a big banner, that pose with that banner dosn't look natural, what about the guy on the right?

(sorry for spamming you log with some of my pictures)

The same goes for all the original guard metals. I believe the powerpack is supposed to be housed inside the gun casing. I also believe its supposed to be a mars pattern lasgun.

Re: Iron Within, Iron Without........ A Mordian Iron Guard log?

I have an update for you guys, finished painting my first squad of iron guard, quite pleased with results, what do you think?

Still awaiting basing and squad markings.

I also decided to paint up one of the objectives with the squad.

Don't know whether to put blood on his leg or not, he wasn't injured by the enemy it was done by his superior officer for losing his hat!

Corvussanctus: Thanks for your input, I will definitely be putting straps on in the near future, I'm actually quite happy with the colours tbh, as some brightness will be added with the basing, hopefully. As for the standard, everyone uses that pose just wanted to use something different, the proportion looks better in person, think it's the picture !

baphomael: Thanks for that, it just intrigued me.

Thanks for looking all C&C welcome, Andy.

Your Mordians are looking cool. Nice conversion work as well, particularly with the kneeling guardsman.

Very cool thread. I always enjoyed Mordians.

For the wounded soldier on the objective marker. I suggest you add a tiny bit of blood. Less is more.

I love the Mordian models. I think for your Krell stand-in, you should try using one of the stiffer-looking models. Like the model on the far left of your first picture, or the model that Corvussanctus used for that small green pennant next to the Sentinal. It would give more of the Parade-Ground appearance that Mordians give off.

Re: Iron Within, Iron Without........ A Mordian Iron Guard log?

Hi guys thanks for your support and input, here is an update.

Student: Thank you for the comment, the kneeling guardsmen was going to be a one off but I am tempted to do a few more now.

Ilikebmxbikes: I've added a "bit" of blood to the troopers leg, what do you think?

Brother Alexos: After people suggesting the same thing a few times I will in the near future will be changing the model for Kell to the one suggested, just waiting fo a replacement.

    I got my next order from GW and my basing materials finally arrived, firstly a few conversions;

The rest of the squads haven't changed at all there all OOP but I did change the weapon for my lieutenant and I thought I would show you how I converted my flamers for second platoon.

Next is the first finished unit, the basing is all finished, maybe just need some squad markings in the future:

And the finished objective marker, with blood:

Again thanks for looking, and criticism or help is recommended, I had my first 500pts battle the other day using the new rules, I will get a "batrep" done ASAP.

    Thanks Andy

    Glory to the Mordian 51st

Re: Iron Within, Iron Without........ A Mordian Iron Guard log?

When I used to work for workshop I bought a company of Mordian, but sold them when I moved house before i did anything with them and to this day is the single biggest hobby mistake e i've made. These are gorgeous models and its great to see you bringing them up to date. As for krill, I think the sergeant model in the squad above my post would be a nice static and solid banner man, either replacing his sword with the pole or for a more dynamic pose why not chop off his las-pistol and pose it away from his body?

Maybe he could be holding the banner in his hand, you seem good enough with the greenstuff so would something like this work for you? but obviously with the flag away from the body, not towards it.

Very good start on your Mordians, man. The paintjob is simple but effective (even without red ! ^^), and the bases are really well done.
It's really nice to see those old minis coming back to life, as the old IG metal ranges are really good, full of personnality and originality.

Hope to see more soon, as I have mordians in my IG army too, and your thread gives me some conversions idea.
