High Elf Rumours

In an effort to pull together what few rumours we have …
I have started threads for each of the armies rumoured to be somewhere in the pipeline.
I will do my best to keep the first posts updated as more rumours appear in these threads.
I have tried to remember as much as I can of what has been posted so far.
I will have missed or forgotten some of it ... so, any rumours that have been posted please just remind me ‘who’ said ‘what’ and I will update this first post.


High Elves:

Release Date: Unknown
The next army to be done after the Warriors of Chaos release.(Harry)
This would make them sometime early next year.(Harry)
High Elves early next year. (Meltedwing) I said it first. (Harry)
High Elves are after WoC AND Daemons of Chaos ... but before Lizardmen.

Author: Unknown.
The book is rumoured to have been started. (Harry)
There is a rumour from Ghorros over at the Herdstone that Adam Troke was asking about what folks wanted from the next High Elves book. Could be nothing. Could be he taking another swing at High Elves. This is a possibility as I heard Adam moved from his job on the web team back to games development about a year ago. I assumed this was Lord of the Rings related but it could just as easily been because High Elves were back on the menu.
There is solid information on who the lead writer might be.

Rules:
There are no rumours about the content of the book.
Imrik making a return, his inclusion possibly acting like Skrag but for True Dragon Princes. (This ties in with the popularity of the Caledor novels depicting mass dragon combat, the Storm of Magic novella, AND the Graham McNeil 2 part novel.)(Actuality)


Models:
New unit in plastic (Harry)
There has been a suggestion that there will be a flying Chariot. (Hastings)
Monsterous Cavalry (Skeith over on BoLS)
The monstrous cavalry are a form of lesser wingless dragon, akin to the demigryph.(Actuality)
Dragon Princes riding some form of true dragon, (possibly limited to a sun dragon) Possibly in sets of three. (Actuality)
This reminds me of a rumour from last time the book was done. There was a rumour of 'Drake riders' being sculpted by Alex Hedstrom. Maybe they missed the boat last time or there was enough great stuff already with the Dragon and Lion chariot that they got shelved.(Harry)
Both High Elves and Wood Elves may get the rumoured Treeman in their updated books. (buzz0783) This does not seem very likely to me. (Harry)
A new everqueen sculpt coming possibly riding some kind of 'critter'. No mention of Maiden Guard. (Eldargal)
Plastic kit for archers, spearmen and seaguard all in one box. (Bramgaunt)

Do you mean since ages past, or you have/are about to reopen threads for the other rumoured armies, such as Dwarfs, an example just randomly plucked out of the air

Ah High Elves - the beloved army of the game developers (Mind you no Rick now so....), let hope for an army that doesn't rely on a powerful army wide special rule as a crutch

If they are bringing back Treeman, does this mean more Avelorn stuff? Maiden gaurd and the Everqueen?

Well ... that is just one guys rumour ...

Having said that you have reminded me I have heard a rumour about the Everqueen.

Now THAT would absolutely rock!! The Maiden Guard models go for really high prices on ebay. Was there a Treeman for the High Elves before in a previous edition?

I dont often say it but i really hope both you and hastings are wrong. Especially Hastings. The longer they take to update it the longer i can go without seeing my main armybook flooded with luminarks and cygors. Not to mention flying chariots.

Also Lord Cedrik no one said anything about maidenguard, only everqueen. and since the old Maiden guard are basically the same as the LSG I'd guess that if they do return they will be different somehow.

may i ask Harry, does new unit in plastic mean that the plastic thing is new of that there is a new unit that happens to be in plastic? If the former my speculation is Swords masters. the only other options are great eagles and shadow warriors. and since this is edition massed ranked units I'm guessing they don't go with skirmishers or fliers.

As far as I can recall high elves/sea elves (Yes I am that old) have never had access to a Treeman but the fluff has place them in Avelorn, so its possible.

New as in something entirely new or new as in an old classic returning (Maidenguard or Treemen) and being plastic?

Thats a fact. Indeed if you go back far enough it was specifically stated that Elf armies represented an alliance between High Elves and Sea Elves and no other allies were allowed. (Where as your Wood Elf army list allowed Treemen to be taken as allies).

It would represent quite a significant change in 'who' the High Elf army represents.

It does not seem very likely to me.

I wonder if the taking of a treeman signifies the eventual 'squatting ' of the Welves? Perhaps by taking the elements which made them special, such as Wardancers and Trees, and putting them in the context of a larger 'good elf' list.
I have to confess as a Welf and Bret player, I feel like weeping each time I see one of these threads. As someone who is stuck with broken armies that stand no chance, I have to wonder what the chances are of ever playing with my armies again.
On the plus side, plenty of new models for me to convert into Welf units :-)

It would be amazing if they pump out a 4th rulebook before the End of the year but-do not Dark Elves need to get hit with with the 8th edition stick of balance 1st? Let us not forget the fact that DEs elite model line are all finecash now & surely need some plastic updates (now not happening?? Sad )

I don't know how reliable it is, but I heard of one plastic boxed set that is supposed to replace two current ones - archers, spearmen and seaguard. That would probably mean that the archers would get back their light armour. Since GW doesn't feel the need to replace plastics as long as they are not cmpletly outdated I wouldn't count on it, though. Might be wishlisting.
