    Re: High Elf Rumours

the change from 4p to 4c has to do with going from only managing profits to managing cutomer relations which in turn will lead to long term profits. What you're talkign about is short term gain for long term loss.
I think GW will not be able to have long term profit, because a miniature no matter how cool it is will not sell forever. It has a lifespan, either people get bored of it or another cool mini is created to replace it, maybe from a competitor to GW.

...and a new armybook with rules is all about the rules. It all goes together.

Therefore miniatures need to rely on looking new and fresh in order to have the most value. Go to the online store, old minis simply don't look as exciting as the new ones.
There's short-term gains and long-term gains. People still buy Chaos Warriors, or Space Wolves, and while they're not old, they're not fresh anymore either. They still look good, and they still excite people quite a lot. It's also linear thinking because what's old to you is new to someone just starting, or coming back.

Apparently it's the new High Elf army wide special rule.

I am still confused about how any of this is pertinent to High Elf rumors. Unless my reading comprehension has suddenly went off the deep end, I think you guys are in the wrong thread.

    Probs gona get flame for this but just wanted to discuss what people think the new book will include;

I hope that the core loses ASF and drops in points, Teclis will obviously get smashed by the nerf hammer, the swordmasters, phoenix guard and white lions may go up by a point or two, bolt throwers need a drop in points and presumably with every new book getting monsters and monstrous infantry they will get demi-dragons and perhaps a variety of dragons as single monsters maybe.

Oh, and hopefully their magic lore will get a buff as it’s never used now =]

Why? Simple, if I know that, then I won't bother to paint the ones I have, but will rather concentrate on Sword Masters and White Lions. Plus I might be more tempted to pull together a High Elf army for the coming tournament season.

That's the part GW and their apologists don't get. It's not all about worrying whether GW loses a sale on existing models, or even just wanting to be "in the know", it's also about planning and making sure you aren't wasting your time.

So GW continues to keep their secrets.

Meanwhile over at a far better run, more customer oriented company, Privateer Press, I just picked No Quarter Issue 45, where they have a preview of the "Gargantuan" Hordes book coming out, including actual stats and point costs for some new things. And when does this book come out? Next week like we can expect the GW timeline to be?

    No...next Spring.

+1, mind you as soon as a model is released you have its rules right there, no white dwarf tax - just sat in the box. The spearmen are seriously in need of an update the hands are the size of the heads.

Do you want the helfs to be utterly useless? Nerf Teclis and the book and helfs loose the only thing they have going for them in i very competative environment. Loss of asf would be disastrous for the helf core, even if they were reduced to 7p for a spearman and if you reduce them further they turn into a horde army. The elite infantry is good now, not op, some even consider sword masters to be a bad choice, what do you think would happen if they went up in cost? Also high magic is actually rather good, and you will see it in use quite often if you follow the army blogs on ulthuan.net. As for the demi dragons they would be a bigger fluff disaster than the lion chariot, let the DE keep their lizards, nobody needs high elf gekko riders. The only thing I agree about is the fact that RBTs are bad atm but I think they need a buff rather than a price reduction.

Wow, I mean this thread has gone from High Elf rumours to slagging GW, to marketing theory, to slagging unrelated companies. What's next, an argument about Ron Paul vs Ralph Nader? The Lucasfilm/Disney merger? Prequels vs Classic Trilogy? Kirk vs Picard? The price of gas?
Ron Paul (who the hell are these two?), Mickey with lightsabre is awesome, Classic is best, Picard and the price of petrol could be lower but I have learned to live with it... [/troll]

Back on to HE... From the rumours and recent releases we will see some new plastic units, complete move from finecast to plastics (looking at swordmasters and choice characters) and a complete curveball that people will treat like marmite. Just as long as we still hit before everyone else and get a re-roll to boot then I'm happy!

High elves with spears keeping ASF would be reasonable as an army they need to lose it, if you need one of the more powerful special rules to make an army work you have major design issues - and the book needs scrapping and rebuilding.

Teclis does need a nerf he should be lesser than a mage priest.

As an army a unit of dragonriders would actually be in with the fluff - so not a bad thing.

Not that it will happen, we will get big monsters, more twisting of the fluff and probably another army wide special rule.

Do you tink they will do like the last book reduce the number of core, say like 15-or20% minimum of core choice. Because after all, HE are an elite army.

I think it is a pretty silly way of doing it. If they want the HE army to be more elite, they should put more stuff in the core slots. Bizarre rules exceptions are an exceedingly bad way to build a book.

I would like HE armybook to be like the more balanced releases . As a Vampire counts player i totally embraced the balanced and full of synergies armybook , which totally drives us to a better whole edition than the previous overpowered vc armies. I hope that they will continue doing this.

    Re: High Elf Rumours

why would asf going destroy he core? its just a reroll these days. i'd prefer something more defensive for army wide special rule, and preferably that they could fix it without one.

as for teclis he is the most powerfull living mage in warhammer according to the fluff so why should he be lesser than a mage priest? the slann are better than most high elves but the high elves have more variation when it comes to ability thus they spike higher. note that the living part takes mazdaundi out of the equation.

    That said teclis needs retuning.

And please no drake riders, we dont need them they'll either be super heavy cavalry competing with dp or fliers competing with great eagles.
