Thread: Wood Elf Rumours

  1. #41
So here's a question I've posed a couple times before now: how many more WHF releases do you think we'll get before the next edition change up? Once 9th hits All bets are off on which armies get released in which order, and some armies may end up having to wait till the end of ninth for their first update since 6th.

Oh, I think we're going to get them all, apart from beasts and skavens, maybe, coz they were supposed to be written with 8th in mind. But I honestly think they'll do them all, because they got to do the whole collection in hardback, if you ask me.

I really hope that the next March date is correct, it's going to be a while until I can afford a new army and having my favourite fantasy faction released the month of my birthday will be a great excuse for the wife!

I dunno about the beast book having 8th in mind- it really only seems to have "one competitive " build where most 8th books have multiple-except the O&G book which might as well been called The Savage Orc rule book.

Besides both books need lore attributes-or at at least Skaven...=) they can white dwarf it and I would be happy.

With the Wood Elf book hopefully we will see an end to just a glade guard army or just a tree spirit army but a very good mix of the two in which one does not need 60+ arrows to be competitive

If Wood Elves are being led down a darker and more sinister path then I'm all aboard for next edition... Really looking forward to this now.

They did, but maybe someone thought they needed to be a bit more darker. If that thing about briar hearts is to believed, then we're looking at some seriously disturbing Elves.

Not really disturbing, more primal than anything else, and after the schism, and subsequent abandonment of the Old World colonies and the colonists that remained, I can certainly understand why they would no longer be the prim and proper, refined elves of Ulthuan. Elves feel emotion on an entirely different level than humans. Their hate burns brighter, their love is more passionate, and their sense of abandonment can shake them to their very core. These aren't your tree-hugging hippie elves. These are your chip-on-shoulder, primal elves, who are completely comfortable with putting an arrow through your neck for not staying out of their turf. There's a reason why the Brettonians tell tales of peasants, even knights, going into the Athel Loren and never coming out.

The Wood Elves of Athel Loren are even more primal and co-dependent upon nature than anyway other colony too. The Wood Elves of Laurelorn for example are a little bit more 'civilised' so to speak like their cousins from Ulthuan. Can't wait to see how GW tackle the next AB.

Well the last book tells of them stealing away Bretonni boys to use as never aging servants. That's not very nice. I even struggle to see the necessity/balance part of it, it's just cruel. They also made a special character out of the Asrai's dual nature. And Drycha, although not an elf, did slaughter a couple of villages. That too is quite dark. And I agree, more of that please.

Laurelorn? I haven't heard of that place, or it's Elves.

It is, nominally, in the Nordland province of the Empire.

Coeddil the Treeman is also a figure similar to Drycha in the sense that he hates Elves. The Wildwood in the far South-East of Athel Loren is where the more malevolent spirits gather and Elves fear to tread. The Bretonni boys you refer to are quite specific. Because Bretonnians only use women as their mages the boys who show magical qualities are taken away by the Elves to act as servants in Athel Loren, it's not simply pinching of random young lads. The Fay Enchantress and her underlings have as much to do with that as the Elves themselves.

Ghal Maraz is right, it's in the Southern part of Nordland in the North-West of the Empire. There are also random patches of Wood Elves in Hinterlands all over the Old World.

I'm not sure if he is right but I have been informed that Coeddil is in the new book as a special character.

Sounds like a rumour. I'll add it to the first post.

Sounds cool, it'll be nice to have a few more Tree Spirit special characters.

That's non-sense. The savage orc list might be the best, but that doesn't make the other lists bad.

No, not an Elf. Rumours say she is an immortal being that is the Lady of the Lake's representation in Bretonnia. Either that or the most high ranking damsel is elevated with the lady's grace after the curretn Fay Enchantress dies or disappears. The damsels and Fay Enchantress do have somewhat of a symbiotic relationship with the Fey though. Calard's sister was in Athel Loren when he received the blessing of the lady in the BL novel and they clear work together somewhat. Also, GW's model of the Fay Enchantress doesn't look at all Elven, no pointy ears and a rather curvier figure than you would expect of the slender Elf models.

Coeddil would be excellent and certainly fits with the 'darker Elves' rumour that has been bandied around on the thread. Good stuff.

I disagree, the mini clearly looks like an elf, look at her face. You just can't see her ears, and the curves, well, at GW, 80% of their females look nothing like females, they've never been their strong point. More to the point, the current drawing of her clearly makes her up as an elf, slanty eyes ala Warhammer elves and ears are there. There is zero doubt when you see these. While I don't buy for a second the silly notion that the Lady of the Lake is an elf, there's little doubt that the Fay is.

Wasn't easy to find on google, and it's kindda hard to tell on that one, but in the book it's as obvious as a squig in a chicken pen.
