    Re: Dwarf Rumours

A mule is snorty and short tempered. And it's not asked to be dreadful of fast, it's asked to pull heavy things, no? No point in them being fast if the dwarfs, whom would refuse to climb on them, can't follow anyway Anyway, I hope dwarfs will get something a bit more interesting than yet more warmachines pulled by beasts, be they mules or goblin-eating beer kegs made of treeman wood.

    Re: Dwarf Rumours

As an aside, one of the major criticisms aimed at the current Dwarf range is it's a bit boring, RnF infantry being the main culprit. Dwarfs need some "hot sauce" and mules aint it. A beer keg that east Gobbos made of Treeman wood might be :P

Either way, I'm unsure as to whether beasts of burden is a red herring or not. This is very much the first I've heard of it through trawling rumours, but no major surprises there! Early Bugman models had an ale cart pulled by a mule, but that was certainly not considered a war machine. A move and fire Warmachine may be handy though and would be new if not revolutionary.

I was just about to start wishlisting about movement + units, but just managed to stop myself!

What has been mentioned is a reimagined Dwarf Juggernaut (steam powered), Giant runic ancestor golem/statue/guardian. Neither of these need beasties.

CDs get to have a nice steam train to play with and pull their machines, as we would have just stupid four-legged beasts ?!? Tsss, now I making a fuss ^^

Despite Land Trains being a Dawi rather than Dawi'Zharr invention, I'm usnure as to why 'we' (proper Dwarfs) have never had access to them. CDs will tell you something about stolen plans...

But that's besides the point. You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Other than the great sculpts, CDs are popular as they have decent rules and unit choices. They're even more 'warmachiney' than Dwarfs. Whatever comes our way, it needs to be (...wait for it...) LEGENDARY!

The LandTrain idea as a direction they might go for dwarfs is a great idea- not a CD fan but I did really like the FW war machines. [much better than mules..].

This link http://collegiatitanica.blogspot.com...alia-2012.html was posted on the 40k rumours and talks about Games Day Australia.

On the third comment after the blog, a guy mentions talking to Jeremy Vetock, who said he has completed 2 codices and is currently working on a Warhammer Armies book.

I'd bet the 2 codices are CSM and Demons and the army book is Dwarfs. (pure speculation, but makes sense to me)

Or WoC, or High Elves, or Lizardmen, or whatever else will be after that/before Dwarfs.

    Re: Dwarf Rumours

WoC, DoC and High Elves should be done and queued for print if rumours re release dates are accurate(ish). If LM are soon after, it could well be them. Outside of this, it's anyone's guess.

I'm sure I remember Vetock saying Dwarfs were he favourite army in a white dwarf about 20 years ago.

I always thought he'd dig Greenskins. I remember two pics of Vetock, one from the 90's with his grinning and his O&G army in front of him, one a few years newer...with him grinning and his O&G army in front...

I'd like to have Vetock as writer though, speaking as both an Ogre and as a Greenskin player. Looking forward to the upcoming releases!

    Re: Dwarf Rumours

So my friend went to the GW headquarters North America (Memphis) and talked to one of the guys working there ( not the in the store) . This guy (don’t know the name) stated that he has been able to play test some of the new dwarf," trial rules" and stated the following. The Dwarfs are going to be completely refurbished with the following added to their army lists
1- Monster creature... We know as the mechanical golem thing
2- Dwarf casters of sorts (not sure what this means) I’m hoping not an actual Dwarf Wizard
3- They will get ruins that modify current magical items in the Main rule book i.e. adding first strike to a sword that already gives +2 strength etc.
4- Some sort of Calvary… My fiend mentioned bear, Ram the guy just smiled at him
So anyway hope this helps, I find it funny how many of these same rumors Harry is already mentioned ....he's some sort of witch me thinks

You mean... 1 out of 4.

I'll be taking alot of salt with this batch. Sounds like a specific tailored list of everything Dwarf players are paranoid of GW doing with the Dwarfs - losing their runes to the common items, cavalry, wizards.

Alebelly_Cragfist: "As an aside, one of the major criticisms aimed at the current Dwarf range is it's a bit boring..."

My main criticism is that they are relatively unattractive sculpts. On the whole, GW's plastics seem to be improving, but I really think these dwarves are a fairly unattractive lot. A bit odd, that, since dwarves have been something that Citadel/GW have generally been very, very good at.

I think High Elf core kits win the ugly game, but the current Dwarf range does suffer. Which is a shame because, as you pointed out, the older sculpts are phenomenal and contain so much character (same for Chaos Dwarfs, but that's a whole other story).

By boring, I was alluding to the sculpts, so we're on the same page (plastics).

I believe none of this, accept 1. I'm 90% sure we're getting the big clubby warmachine on wheels and 60% sure we'll see a stone/rune golem. The rest, as stated plays on every fear the Dwarf community has:

    Don't ruin our runes.
    Don't give us mages.
    Cavalry are not fluffy.

I've speculated that Runesmiths will be given "spell storage" abilities during their dispell actions which they can release during the magic phase. i.e. They soak up power dice from enemy spell casting that can be discharged onto enemy units in some manner. I wouldn't be surprised if the dispell abilities were toned down and they were made to be slightly more offensive. Thatcould make them more interesting. But, haven't heard anything in support of this and pure thinking out loud on my part.

Cavalry, never gonna happen and anyone that says they've heard such is n ot worth listening to IMO (famous last words! Link in your sig now! )

I think the boriness comes more from the way they have been reduced to play, rather than sculpts themselves (ok core troops suck, they dont even show heavy armour as they should, but all 6th edition plastics sucked hard, these are no exception). You could have done wonderful things during 6th and 7th with slayers, miners and rangers, but instead we got more and more useless blocks of infantry hampered by the core rules every edition while overpowering their shooting as their only solution for the army weaknesses.

Luckily regarding the sculpts of the basic troops, it's really a giant " who cares?", as long as you have Avatars of War as an alternative. GW is HARDLY the only, or the best game in town.

    Re: Dwarf Rumours

Runesmith/lords will not cast "spells" they will strike runes. The cost of their option as a Lords/Heroes choice tends to be lost as all they can do is dispel and this is useless when many armies will not even use magic or can choose to build without it. Striking runes will be more like the Anvil does but more minor strikes while the Anvil itself will get a huge face lift and become stronger on the minor and major strikes. These runes will influence the Dwarf units more than enemy units and will act as our Runic version of Gut Magic.
    IMO
Anvil Is already a Magic item *grunts in disatisfaction* I used to hate this idea entirely and now have caved as I like the theme and look of these models and they make the rules to be really useful in the game as well.

Every army has been getting giant models.....Zeppelin and Golem make sense, sounds fun and already hinted at.

Every army has been getting monsterous cavalry so steam vehicles, steam suits, etc would make sense and get people excited.
