Thanks for the clarification.
Thats what I thought. It was not something I had heard anywhere else.
I remember people reading a lot into the Tomb Kings artwork that John Blanche did.
Some of the work of the art department is illustrating models that are in production and some is concept work for models ... other stuff is just them letting their imaginations run wild' n' free ... sometimes this gets picked up by someone else and it see's the light of day as an official model but often it remains a bit of background fantasy to fuel the imaginations of the hobby enthusiast or scratch builder.
Long may the art department continue to not be restricted by what is or isn't being made ... it just adds more depth, more magic and more magesty to the warhammer world.

Wasn't Demigryph first released as a FW model and then re-released as a regular Citadel model (although as a part of a unit, not a character mount)?
On the other hand, Citadel didn't remake Rhinox cavalry and went for another, although somewhat similar, MC unit?

Models were being worked on the same time as Empire models, and had boxes being printed at the same time ... back before the Empire release. (Alebelly_Cragfist)

Take those words with a pinch of salt though as the source had access to someone who has direct access, rather than from the horses mouth. It all came about late-ish last year when there was still speculation as to what army would be next after VC. The source stated that he "knew" the only models being worked on there and then were the Empire and the Dwarf models and that both were far into the production cycle. Who knows.
Hmm, looks like I'll be getting to dust off my Dwarfs in a year or two. I am saddened that there is only one other WFB player in my group right now. Oh well, maybe this will give me time to finish painting them. I'm liking the sounds of ground-up re-working though. The Dwarfs have been in need of it.
We can assume that new book strategy is not something cobbled together at the last minute, we also can ssume that with the huge expense in mills and chinese manufacture contracts that for a dwarf book to come in the next 18 months, that it is already in the frame.
So how to predict "when" in the next 18 months is the question if we presume it is coming at all.
Say there is 2-4 books possible within that time period, say that dwarf is one of them.
The release slate would of course have potential and predicted release dates, so what would inspire GW to push dwarf or for that matter any book forwards?
A threat to sales in any form, be it direct ala Avatar of Wars dwarf beserkers or indirect other game competition.
What is the threats to whatever books we presume are on the radar for release?
With my limited knowledge, I see a massive threat to sales from AoW dwarf releases, every dwarf player I hear says they will/have be buying the beserkers.
Any other threats/ideas?
Doc
If that were the case they would be the next book, because we will have a full scale dwarf army from your threat source soon (as in starting next month), with rules as well.
First up for the dwarfs is most likely some Forgeworld stuff with the upcoming campaign book for Empire, Orcs & Goblins and DWARFS.
Don't suppose there'd be a chance of the new dwarves being sculpted by members of the old Marauder team? So much character in those minis....
I miss Chris Farley.
I believe at least Aly Morrisson still works for GW, if not Trish, so there is a chance the original Marauder team could work on the new models. That said, I doubt they will look to the past for inspiration as it has already been done and been done well. Those of us that love the old Marauder Dwarfs will traul eBay and flea markets for them.
I am intrigued as to what style they'll opt for. The trend seems to be increasingly more realistic proportions and a more dour look to all races. Armour needs to be done better so it looks master crafted.
@Little Joe - if anything, AoW releasing Dwarfs may delay GW doing the same. Many collectors suffer from "oooh, shiny" syndrome, but we all have limited hobby budgets. They may risk less sales if releasing minis amongst a wave of competitors. Perhaps better to wait, or at least launch the new units first, so that when the generic warrior models are released, they'll match stylistically and draw more purchases. But, who knows for sure? *shrug*
Didn't Aly Morrisson do the current warrior plastics? I don't really think it is in terms of who designs them -it's the design/over all theme that needs to be right. Personally I'm more of a classic Perry twins fan myself- the imperial and norse dwarfs specifically- and of course the current long beards sculpted by Colin Dickson.

I'd love to discuss marketing theory with you, but we'd go woefully off topic![]()
I'm of the mind that AoW's impact is pretty marginal at best anyway.

For the record, I am not and will never claim to have the answers, I merely promote discussion, because I am interested.
In terms of AoW impact, they have a pledge fund up for dwarves, it might be closed now.
They needs $20,000.00 in pledges to move their dwarf modelling along.
They received $39,000.00
Even if we assume that is exaggerated and go back to just the $20k figure, divided by $30.00 as a example of 1 box of dwarves, that is 666 boxes of dwarves, that is not a marginal amount of impact to a small division of a niche market?

Mantic made c300k and Reaper is already at 370k at the halfway point. I love AoW but they aren't a big player yet. I can't say how Dwarves ell but when the Dark Eldar venom was released advance orders from Wayland games alone amounted to 750 units.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only British.

I for one have only pledged 50 dwarfs but will get a full army from AoW. They are better and vets know this, the impact will not be huge but noticed non the less.
I am also looking forward to the rumored Forgeworld airship and I am sure GW will add one as well to the next book. The statues I am not a fan of but I do not mind to see them done by AoW and with the current monster base slot from GW they are my bet there as well.
Personally I would not mind a rethink on GWs part for some new units, but I do not matter anyhow as I have departed from their route and will just build a huge army with whatever I want. May it be many interesting things is all I say.
