Not even Radio 4 for ISIHAC, Old Harry's Game (first episode of an Olympic-themed two-parter was last night, so it should be on iPlayer) and The Now Show?

The last time I chose to listen to Radio 1, I was at university, and Chris Evans was doing the breakfast show, so I couldn't care either way about Chris Moyles, except in a passing "did he leave or was he pushed out, and is the BBC dooming itself in an attempt to be populist?" sense .

It's Radio 5 on the commute for me - used to listen to Capital when Chris Tarrant was doing the breakfast show, but he left, Johnny Vaughan took it over, and I eventually joined the mass exodus.

Chuck in TMS on R4 if cricket's on, and some of the old comedy that's on 4 Extra (Navy Lark, The Goons).

And 5LX for the NFL of course.

I've become quite a convert to local radio, they aren't afraid to play some random songs, the news is local and the traffic updates are both quick and extremely applicable to me. Years of Radio 2 left me fed up with knowing a motorway 300 miles away was chocablock, and Chris Evans moving his evening show wholesale to breakfast (literally a 100% cut and paste job) irked me enough to leave and never go back.

Although the single most interesting thing I can remember on Radio was a documentary on Radio 4 about Stilton Cheese, so BBC Radio does have alot going for it.

Radio 1 is for children and teenagers.
Their stated target demographic is 18-24 whilst their apparent average listener's age is around their mid-30s, so not quite true.

Personally, I'm clearly in the minority here, but I actually liked listening to him and his show and will miss it, I didn't listen to it that much in the last few years purely because being a permanent night worker it was on in the middle of my sleep but I did catch bits of it if I had a late finish, was taking the children on the school run or the missus to work. Whilst I have nothing particularly against Nick Grimshaw, I do find his accent a bit grating so probably wont be tuning in to him as much (And this is coming from a half-Geordie!), still he's a better choice IMO than Scott Mills whose prank call style sense of humour I've never appreciated, although to be fair he seems to have toned it down in recent years. The rest of the team on the current morning show I liked too, Comedy Dave was responsible for many, if not all, of the parody songs they used to do IIRC, they could be a bit hit and miss but would often have me actually laughing.

As for being arrogant, yeah he probably is. I think you need a certain arrogance to go on a show like that first thing in the morning for three to three and a half hours with the attitude that people are going to be interested in what you have to say. I wont pretend that he's never annoyed me, he's really irritated me on several occasions, but as far as arrogant and out of touch goes he's still a long way short of just how bad Chris Evans got.

I like radio, there's a lot of songs, bands and even books I'd never have bothered with searching out myself if I hadn't heard them on radio first and my tastes are broad enough that I appreciate a broader spectrum rather than a genre specific station. I cannot stand commercial stations, having the shows constantly interrupted with advertisements for window glazing or this weeks sale at the carpet store is far too off putting and I tend to find the presenters cheesy and irritating. Thanks to the DAB radio bought for my birthday I've recently rediscovered BFBS and I like that as a bit of a change from Radio 1.

Radio 4 is fine and good for the drive to and from work when there's usually sod all else worth listening to, but for background sound when I'm in the kitchen it's not really what I'm after. I like music and a bit of banter when I'm cooking, Farming Today or The Archers just doesn't quite cut it.

As for whether he was jumped or pushed, a bit of both is my understanding. He's done his job well and still attracts plenty of listeners, but Radio 1 is still chasing that 18-24 target demographic and Moyles's listeners are apparently the wrong age.

They should stop doing their annual GCSE exam season broadcasts, then.

Chris Moyles, what is that? Last time I listened to radio 1 it had some bloke called Steve Wright or something like that presenting it? (I thought Chris Evans did the One show on BBC1 tea time? Was he on the radio to start with?)

Anyway, as I don't know him from the radio I cannot comment. I usually only listen to radio in the car and that is Radio 4. Otherwise anything radio-wise is listened to via the i-player but even that not so often.

I'm currently listening to Vernon Kay(e?); there's plenty worse than Chris Moyles on the air.

Cause of work I usually listen to Dev from 04:00 - 06:30 and then Chris till I finish work, I don't mind him tbh... I can't stand Fern Cotton or Vernon Kay if they're on radio 1 I'll actually switch off and prefer silence over those two

*Shudders* Vernon Kay. The 'nations favorite chummy presenter' at one point, but I just find hes an annoying berk.

A good rule of thumb for me is "If a presenter has, at any point and for any length of time, been part of the T4 team, I will hate them with the fury of a million suns" The only exception to that rule is Simon Amstell.

I've been occasionally listening to Moyles for years, mostly the podcast these days. I couldn't give a **** about Radio 1's music, I just find the banter on his show reasonably entertaining. People tend to complain a lot about him being laddish and obnoxious, but he makes me laugh and maybe a loudmouth is good for a breakfast show, somthing lively to get you going in the morning.

Will be kind of strange for him to go, the last link to when I listened to radio 1 as a teenager. He used to have the afternoon show right after the legendary Mark And Lard.
