    GW Newsletter abuse

I just received GW's newsletter. After a quick glance, I came to the immediate realization that I didn't want to be subscribed anymore because there's no way they'd convince me to order anything that I don't already know I'm interested in.

    *sigh*

I want to like GW and I want to be excited about their new stuff. But newsletters like this one that just advertise their terrain (that was available cheaper for years) just feel like trolling.

"Na na. First we're going to raise the prices and then we're going to remind you next month. With an ad that seems to suggest 'a change' in our scenery line, but doesn't actually show you anything new."

I'll swap you for some spam from a Canadian pharmacy which sells viagra for very a reasonable price.

I think the "change" is in 40k rules that allow for terrain to be purchased as part of an army list. That said I let my spam filter catch and read all the GW newsletters because it required fewer clicks than unsubscribing.

You sign up to a marketing and sales tool, then criticise it for beign a sales and amrketing tool?

    Curious.

I don't get the newsletter myself. My hobby timetable does not coincide with GWs marketing.

Hmmmm. I only got the newsletter email after I read this thread

Heh, only GW customers get so aggravated. An occasional optional email that advertises their products is apparently 'abuse' and 'trolling'.

    Re: GW Newsletter abuse

@Yabbadabba. I signed up years ago. Just to be clear, I'm perfectly aware that it's optional, and their newsletter never bothered me before. There have been two newsletters since their last price hike (which I blame for my feelings of estrangement in particular). The last one I think advertised the release of 6th edition. Big surprise there. Didn't phase me. But I guess what bugs me about this one is that, not only is there no 'official news', there aren't any new products, services, events, career ads... nothing. Except an ad for products I've known since early June that I didn't want to buy.

I fully admit that I'm whining about something really petty. I suppose I'm just getting too old/less interested or something.
And I'm sad that I'm not interested anymore. Which is why I posted; and which possibly is more what I'm trying to get at.

As of an hour ago, I no longer get the newsletter either. Which means the only time I'll be visiting GW's site is when I want to check their prices in order to rage about them in the pricing thread (which will be less often now that I don't get the newsletter), or when other posters direct me there. I used to go to the site every day for the daily Blog, and spend all sorts of time there perusing their product range and planning my next purchases.

    Sorry to bother you all.

Newsletters aren't just for news. Newsletters are for contact opportnities with customers.

Two things; the first is that you are probably only interested in specific things which is natural for the committed wargamer the longer you wargame with a specific product or company - only the most dedicated fanatic doesn't suffer this; the second is GW targets at an age far younger than most of us, or complete newbies, so I would be surprised if you'd want to read a newsletter for that.

Waste of time unless something positively interests you. I only come on here because I am still weaning myself off 13 years of constant, daily hobby debate .

I think you have realised something important; your hobby needs have changed but GW haven't. Decision is are you happy to compromise, if not then carry on walking away.
    Sorry to bother you all.

    Re: GW Newsletter abuse

When I saw the title of the newsletter, I thought they were going to introduce some new terrain stuff. But they didn't.

Another note on the newsletter, it is often late. By which I mean that I recieve the newsletter a week (or more) later than I've recieved the WD, which contains the same information, or after something is available in the store, which they announce as 'Coming soon!'.
Results in the past are no guarantee for the future.
I’m only stating my opinion, it’s not fact.

To be fair to the OP, when I signed up to the newsletter it had weekly hobby articles.

Now it's just used to say "x is now on sale".

Just be thankful they don't charge a monthly subscription fee for their services; some people pay hard bucks to get what you have for free in form of a White Dwarf subscription.

That's a bit of an overestimation of what we get in these mails isn't it? I knew WD was bad, but surely it's better than a color picture of some wire, a link and a paragraph of text?

    These mails... they aint SWAG!
