Mass Effect RPG: N7 Special Operation Restore Light -Interest Thread

Time to flex my creative muscle and release a RPG again. Been feeling like trying out Mass Effect with its vast background, various races, and numerous potential plot grips. Mass Effect 3 (This thread will not speak of the controversial endings, the EC or anything related to the actual storyline of the game. I do not want it derailed. To rant about ME 3 go to Bioware Social Network. You will find a haven there.) offers the most potential for a RPG we as a group are accustomed to because it is a time of war.

    The Short:

The entire galactic civilization is under threat from an enemy of impossible strength and near God-like in their technology and abilities. They intend to reap all sentient life deemed worthy of Ascension and destroy the races that are not. Sentient AI god-like warships that contain the essence of reaped lifeforms deemed worthy of being preserved in Reaper form. They do not know peace and will not stop. They do not require supplies, nor power, and do not fight conventional wars. They swarm a planet with Reaper ground forces composed of various reaped races, combat all resistance and then begin a gruesome harvest of all life. This is their purpose and they are unstoppable. They are the Reapers.

    The Over All Plot:

Its hard to sum up Mass Effect and its storyline, with its various Paragon, Renegade and "Neutral" choices, the story itself can be different for every player. However, there is a murky plot in there and using Mass Effect 3's plot, its easier to sum up. This plot assumes Shepard cured the Geneophage and the Krogan under the leadership of Urdnot Wrex are at full fighting strength and at peace with the Turians, but before the Quarians and Geth are at peace. Essentially meaning that Asari, Krogan, Turians, Humans, Vorcha, Quarians, Batarians and Salarians are available for character choices. The Reapers are reaping Earth and have begun to invade various other planets, but it is only beginning.

And now my take on the Mass Effect universe and RPG, shamelessly copied from the Roleplayers of Warseer Roleplaying Forums thread:

    My concept is this:

You have recently signed up with the special operations force code named: N7 Special Ops. For whatever reason you've thrown your chips in with this Alliance force against the Reapers and are not picky about the type of missions you are bound to receive. From what you've heard in the training rooms, its primarily take and hold objectives and even if it sounds desperate you are assured your actions are saving countless lives during colony evacuations. This is generally what the N7 Special Ops are tasked with, however, for this plot, there is another mission.

A secret Alliance tactical base has gone dark in the Terminus System. The Reaper forces have only just invaded Earth and have not begun their aggressive expansion (for ME 3 players, this happens while Shepard is forging the first round of Alliances and just before Priority: Tunchanka for timeline sake) throughout the rest of the Milky Way. This planet is a key human colony and this squad is being deployed to either restore contact or collect evidence and necessary data files.

It will be led by an N7 operative and the rest of the unit is made up of player characters and NPCs as well.

I do not want to limit characters, but I will turn down Geth because per the timeline I've chosen it would not make sense. The Geth are at this point still considered hostile and an unknown enemy. But other races like: Batarians, Vorcha, Krogan, Asari, etc will be available and the character sheets would be built partially from our forum's character sheet and the character sheet the mutliplayer adds.

Eg: Vorcha Sentinel: the character would have the Cluster grenades, Flamer and Bloodlust and in the background the player can tool how the Vorcha fights. Was it always being wounded and forced to evolve or was it a terror in combat and loves to fight bloody?

I await interest and if there is, I will expand this to include my N7 operative, character limitations and a few other details of the plot to aide character development.

    Expressing interest.

I would play an Asari Vanguard or Justicar or a character similar to Kasumi, perhaps a female Quarian Infiltrator. Lots of options towards characters, can't wait to see if this gets the green light.

Re: Mass Effect RPG: N7 Special Operation Restore Light -Interest Thread

With the introduction of the N7 characters, its made things a bit more interesting. The N7 characters will stay limited to GM only because of their special rank. However, if there is a call for them, I may re-think the limitation. I feel the characters on display are more then suitable.

Towards shaping this thread up, I will post the different 'classes', then the Race and its special abilities being a brief description and a brief 'blurp' about each available race for background purposes. Glad to see there is interest developing.

Dakkagor, a Krogan Vanguard would be acceptable. Got to love the Krogan. My favorite class is Sentinal though. Love them lift grenades lol

robtheguru, the character you selected is more then acceptable. Its a Phoenix Adept or Vanguard, both have that smash ability, its also their heavy melee attack. If you haven't tried multi-player, give it a shot, the DLC is free thankfully.

Drell Assassin or Asari Ardat-Yakshi for me, if possible. Perhaps not the latter if Chiara plays a Justicar... *gulp*

Re: Mass Effect RPG: N7 Special Operation Restore Light -Interest Thread

Volus and Elcor are not properly fleshed out towards combat and are going to appear primarily as NPCs in the RPG storyline. Even though a Volus might be entertaining, it would prove to be a hazzard considering the actual mission parameters.

Archmagus, I do not think the N7 would recruit an Asari Ardat-Yakshi and I think it was accepted that most were changed into Banshees by the Reapers. Also the character itself would be hard to balance with their urges getting the better of them. However, a Drell Assassin would be acceptable and interesting to see because who doesn't love Thane?

I'm waiting till I get back to my house so I can properly do the characters.
