Something that may be of interest to some

    Rolls-Royce Lego Trent 1000:

That's right, a jet engine built entirely of Lego. If memory serves, it's half size, with full interior detail. On display this week at the Farnborough air show.
Not something I'm involved in, but a friend of mine has been working on it quite heavily (leaving the rest of us to pick up the slack with the real work - grumble grumble...)

    Also, see here: http://legotrent1000.com/.

    There - advertising done

Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"

Also, on another note - "Sweet zombie Jesus!"

As a former turbo-machinery design engineer I have to say that is pretty damn cool. Wonder what kind of imbalance that shaft sees at speed

Very impressive. I must say, I kind of wished I continued with engineering at school. Might not have ended with the ****** job I do now. If this inspires one kid, its worth the effort it took.

That's really impressive! How long did it take to build?

That I do not know. I shall endeavour to find out Monday. I do know it wasn't just Rolls-Royce building it - there was company helping that specialises in making awesome Lego models.

While it certainly is very cool, and you have to respect the amount of effort put into it, there is a wee bit of cheating going on; the rotation is being driven by an electric motor, and they used oodles of superglue to stick it together.

Yes, but how else do you propose to make it turn? Can't really have actual combustion going on...

Also, in answer to Dylius - it took a team of four people eight weeks to make. Though I happen to know they had the odd bit of extra help as well (my friend spent a day making a fan blade).

Why, with an engine built entirely from Lego Technics, of course
