Thread: Play a weaker army=more games and less whining?

I agree with everything you say there about sportsmanship and gaming mentality, as well as finding a balance in your lists. One thing I do disagree with, however, is when you say OnG and Skaven are badly thought out armies. Now, granted, I used to play Skaven and now play OnG so i'm a wee bit biased, but to describe OnG as bottom tier is very harsh. Even without taking a 'hard-as-possible' tournament list it's still very easy to make a fun and competitive army. There are so many options and they all have a viable place (except Snotlings).
I've just started a fluffy SO army, and though i've only played a few games i've won as much as i've lost, and that's with a self-imposed handicap of no gobbos, no BO, no war machines, no Arrer Boys and only River Trolls. SO armies sound hard but if anything, as has been my experience thus far, they are one of the hardest types of OnG list to play due to frenzy on top of animosity. Even so, i've still found them very competitve.
As for Skaven, without doubt they are a top teir army, but they're by no means broken. Indeed, they are very beatable, and you have to consider that because they are a 7th ed army, some of their options are going to be a bit top-heavy compared to the more balanced 8th ed armies.
Even so, they are eminently beatable.

I think Skaven have gotten a bad reputation because they can field some truly horrendous lists. Double A-Bomb anyone?

As a non-competitive player, I'd argue that the kind of person who'd quite happily field that list is the kind of person that I wouldn't want to play, regardless of what army they were fielding.

Play a common goblin army, but do it because they are brilliant and deserve some lurrrrv!!
A boy played in the sandbox with no one to mind him,
When quietly a mixing truck pulled up behind him.
He peeped not a peep, cried out nary a cry —
Just his sandals stuck out when the concrete was dry.

You can take a weak army eg; TK and be an absolute whigny little b****, rules lawyer, immature brat or you can play a strong list de/woc and play to waac and be an absolute gentlemen to play.

A players attitude is the make or break part if you table me with you op waac list of doom and act like a jerk im sure as hell not going to play with you again, if your a gentlemen i will accept the chalkenge and want to get even. You can field a weak list and i table you, you suck it up dont become a sore loser i'll buy you a beer and chat about what went wrong. if you whinge and carry on like a pork chop i'll simply ignore your future game requests untill i've seen that you've matured as a player
    Very well said.

Also, I read THIS years ago and found myself completely understanding and relating to it. It was also the day that I realized that I would love to play Malorian in a game because I know it would be fun for everyone involed.

My friend and I play games in my basement on the GW modular table, because our local GW shop tends to be full of people who just want to win for the sake of winning and tell you how bad you did.
