It's not immediately obvious from the trailer, but it is a tactical game that has its roots in the original X-Com. There are some differences, but based on what I've seen and heard you'll instantly recognize the roots when you play the game. I'll note that the "actiony" combat sequences in the trailer may come from the game play. I've seen mention that you'll have the ability to view at least some "spectacular" actions - such as, say, head-shotting a Sectoid - then the game might zoom in for a close up of the action. I don't know how common this will be, though, and given that Firaxis is making the game I suspect that there will be a way to turn it off when you start to find it bothersome (since Firaxis is a strategy-game oriented bunch).
There are differences - you only have one "proper" base, for instance (though you can apparently build listening posts around the world) - but the core should be the same.
