    Finecast Bloodthirster

    Hi Guys,

I have a birthday coming up and I am dead set on a bloodthirster.

Has anyone built the finecast version yet? I am terrified that the whip will break in 2 seconds, and the axe could be pretty flimsy as well. The wings might be the one good feature since they are half as light.

Any advice would be awesome (yes I know there is a rumour of plastic ones coming soon, but I want this one anyways )

You should have any problems with breaking, as from what I remember and a quick look at the kit, the whips quite chunky which should lend it self well to being made in fine cast - if its in more then one piece you could even pin it if you were feeling brave.

If you're particularly worried, head into your local GW and buy it there - that way you can check the kit over, get a good feel for how it goes together/where the problems are and if needs be return it.

Honestly, Finecast is NOT that fragile. It's suprisingly bendy and resiliant. The primary issue you'll have is with bubbling, especially in deep detail areas. Make sure you have good light where you check the model; it is very very easy to miss things that are a complete pain to fix. Better to check before you travel home with it.

Finecast does pin well enough - it's easy to drill, but ensure any point of leverage is not at the end of a pin, as this can force the pin through the model when it's warm / soft enough.

I think the model is balanced well enough above the feet (do NOT move the point of balance!) but you may want to put metal core along the entire length of the Axe arm (and a good way into the torso). It looks very much like if it gets warm it'll bend down at the elbow in a not-really-passable-as-a-pose way.

You may want to look at certain Chinese sites (I've heard positive comments on casting, poor comments on packaging for shipping - metal should be OK) or eBay for a metal version.

I feel a bit dirty. It's bad when the best advice I can give someone involves a dodgy recasting outfit from the Land of No Copyright.
