Indeed looks nice, although i would have liked to see more xenos flyers before more imperial lets hope they are in the pipeline or better yet gw will be doing them in plastic soon.
Ultramarines, I hate them... I want those smug SMurfs to sizzle in the deepest pits of hellish agony with assorted deamons taking turns doing horribly painful, humiliating and degrading things to them.

Was shown in an old rumours thread where several other FW models were also covered. Still looks like crap. If anyone is going to get bent-winged aircraft, it should be da orkses and their "Red Skwadron".

I like the bit about " we spend ages trying to find its technical name on the internet" for the rear dorsal cockpit. Doesn't take that much time to find the correct technical term (or it's opposite, the ventral) but I suppose you would need to have two clues about aircraft to know this.

At least I wouldn't have misspelled "spent" either because I know 'Spend' doesn't fit grammatically in context, even if it is correctly spelled (and my spellchecker does flag it for grammar).

Taken the wind out of the sails of today's FW newsletter unless something else is coming out too. Looks very tasty though, but I still prefer the Thunderbolt going on looks alone.

    Up on forgeworld now http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuf...E_FIGHTER.html

Interesting bit in the fluff description about it being the favoured support aircraft of the Adeptus Sorroritas - perhaps a sign that forgeworld at least are working on some new sisters stuff?

(Also - Avenger bolt cannon - I thought the muzzle looked like a bolt weapon )

I like it. It looks appropriately retro-weird.

Is that half a vulcan mega bolter? If so, it's going to be nasty...

From what I recall the model was supposed to be an update of the traditional aquilia-shaped lightning, but the designer decided to do something entirely different and the ecclesiarchy has wound up with it anyway.

There is absolutely nothing iconic or gothic about the design. It looks like it's straight out of the star wars prequels.

It definitely doesn't look much like any existing imperial design in silhouette (although the detailing is all imperial, even down to the mysterious recessed rivets/bolts along the leading edge) However, it is possible that they are trying to develop a new imperial Aesthetic - rather like the Aquilla, which doesn't really fit with the other imperial flyers either.

I think the biggest problem might be the totally exposed engines - all the previous imperial flyers (as opposed to the valkyrie/vendetta group) have some sort of cowling around the engine - just look at the thunderbolt in the side-by-side picture. Exposed engines fit a more "Orky" aesthetic, especially when combined with gull-wing geometry (as chromedog said)

Also, the dorsal heavy stubber is... interesting. It would appear to suggest that forgeworld at least is sticking to AV10 on it's fighters, as there is little point in mounting a rear gun that can't hurt a pursuing fighter

Looks and sounds like the 40K version of the A10 'Warthog', which can never be a bad thing, the A10 is probably the closest current military thing to 40K as it is.

No but the aquilia did fit with the sister's aesthetic of form over function.

This strikes me more as forgeworld trying to fob something off to sisters players desperate for any new model after 8 years... just can't help but feel cynical about it.

I'm not going to argue with that, certainly

As to the Aesthetic, it is interesting that they stated the design originated during the age of strife, which implies that it might not be an STC design, but rather something designed by a human to fulfill a mission. That would explain the highly utilitarian design, if it was cobbled together out of various other aircraft designs and parts. But I'm deviating into a fluff discussion here

Any idea what the Avenger cannon does yet? If it's gonna mimic the Thunderbolt II's Avenger, it should probably be Str 5 or 6 with 2d6 armor penetration at Heavy 10.

According to the GW site, the Avenger Bolt cannon is "a high-Strength multi-barrelled affair that can tear up enemy planes (and even light vehicles) with ease. It'll also make quite a mess of Space Marines (traitor ones, of course)"

From that I'd guess that it's stats will be somewhat similar to a vulcan megabolter - I'd expect AP 3 (or maybe 4) and a strength of 6 or 7, with probably at least 5 shots. I don't think it'll get armourbane (as that would let it tear up landraiders) but it might get rending.

However, my best guess is Range 48", S6 AP3 Heavy 6

I have no evidence for that, mind, just deduction from description and similar weaponry

Hey, that's what the A-10's gun is capable of. It can defeat any tank's armor with one pass. This should be able to do the same - with a point cost to match, of course.

Re: New Forge world flyer on gw homepage

I think forgeworld is trying to do something new and move away from the constrained aquila wing shape, as ther is only so much you can do with it.

The fighter pulls its inspiration from severeal historical and current earth fighter and fighter bombers.

And if the "new is abominable" is the axiom, then the redone landraidee, rhino and landspeedee should also fall under that category as they look very little like what came before. Thr Stormspud looks un 40k like aswell...and is gutwrenching ugly, and could never fly. At leasts the avenger looks flyable..

An the A-10 is just soo cool, theidea of. agun with such ferocity that its recoul actually slows the plane down when fired warms my heart.
